MusicBee Wishlist / File Organization - enhanced Preset Management
« on: April 20, 2024, 11:15:05 PM »
I'd really appreciate the ability to manage my presets in the File Organizer easier.  Love the power of this feature, including the ability to apply conditional formulas to the naming template and using exceptions, which is a tremendous help when managing my music library.

A couple of "wish list" items:

1 - When using a new preset, prompt for whether it should be saved to the list for re-use.  Right now, all of my various "tests" need to be manually deleted.

2 - Enable the deletion of multiple presets at once.  Right now, the list of previously used presets needs to be dropped down, then I have to highlight one (I can only highlight a single one at a time), and press delete, in order to remove it.

3 - Include "exceptions" in the "preset" name or otherwise allow the user to assign a unique name to each preset.  Right now, it only displays the naming template.  I have some exceptions set up based on the particulars, which otherwise use an identical naming template, thus there is no indicating of which preset has the desired exceptions until I click on it to make it the active preset.

4 - Enable a manual ordering of the presets so that frequently-used ones can be placed near the top.

Thank you for considering this. :)

I think that these are relatively recent features, and I especially value Reset Play Count.  Not sure when they were added, but nice to have 'em!

2 things:

It would be fantastic if these could be made available as items that could be configured in the Toolbar and/or added to the Context Menu, so i don't have to work through 2 submenus.

I noticed that, when I try to undo (ctrl-z) a Reset Play Count, it seeks to undo the last item before the Reset Play Count action.  The warning in the modal window provides protection against an inadvertent Reset Play Count, but being able to undo this as is the case with other tag edits would be welcome.

Bug Reports / Original Artists and Separator Handling Error
« on: October 14, 2023, 04:30:12 PM »
Occasionally, I may want to list more than one artist in the Original Artist field (could be a cover song medley or a song originally performed by two artists).

When I insert the separator between artists in this field, using the main panel, it gives the following error when I try to save:

[[filename]]  --  [[path]]
     Exception from HRESULT: 0xC00D002B

When I add an Original Artist field using the Tag Inspector, it saves without throwing an error, and shows as a value under the appropriate tag in the Tag Inspector, but it does not display in virtual tags or appear in the main panel's Tags (2).

I'm using Musicbee v 3.5.8620.

Musicbee automatically sets the album artist tag based on the artist tag, if the former is empty.  When I do a Custom Search by "album artist," it pulls all albums by that album artist, including when that tag is empty and essentially set to the artist - that is the expected behavior.

However, when I use the Search Field Shortcuts or Set Specific Fields (to Album Artist), those albums where the album artist tag is empty *don't* turn up in the results, even though the artist field matches (and thus the album artist field).  This is not what I would expect, given how Musicbee handles the album artist tag, whether it be for handling displayed fields or custom searching.

Apologies if this isn't a bug but instead a feature request.

Thanks again for this great program.

I use the Custom Search window more frequently than the Search bar.  The Search bar has the ability to choose between Local Node Only (LNO) and Entire Library (EL) searches.  Musicbee's selects LNO or EL based on the active or last tab, and whether it is in a local node or showing all or part of the library (as far as I can tell).

This can create some inconvenience when using the Custom Search window, as a reversion to LNO creates different search results than anticipated, especially if I'm active across multiple tabs.  When that occurs, I  have to close the Custom Search window, go to the drop down menu on the Search bar, and select EL, then Custom Search again.

It would be nice if there was a toggle on the Custom Search window for LNO / EL, akin to what is available in the drop down under the Search bar itself.  Preferably one that would remember the last-used setting rather than switching based on the active or last tab.

MusicBee Wishlist / Library View - More Grouping and Sorting Options
« on: June 18, 2023, 05:59:19 AM »
Hopefully this hasn't been asked and answered before (if so, my apologies, I did search for the topic but didn't see anything responsive - honest!).

In the Library, set to view by Artists, it would be nice to group by virtual tags.  For example, if I have two artists with the same name, I will differentiate them by country (or state(province)/country) using a virtual tag, and then I use a naming template to send them to a distinct folder in my library, Album Artist (Country).  It would be nice to have this same ability to group Artists in the Library View by a virtual tag, as otherwise my Album Artists include a jumble of different album artists that happen to share the same name.

Similarly, under Library, when I click on Album Artist and bring up their albums, it would be nice if I could sort those by custom sorting options rather than just sort by Album, Year (Asc), Year (Des).  For example, I use Year to represent the year that a release was actually released, and I use original year to represent the year that a live recording actually occurred or, in the event of a reissue, the year that the album was originally released.  I would prefer to sort by original year, preferably using a custom tag that I set up that includes original year.

Thanks again for this program - it has been my go-to music player since October 2015!  Can't wait to see what v3.6 brings!

Questions / Sort by Original Year, or Year if not specified
« on: January 26, 2019, 12:31:55 AM »
I am trying to sort albums by Artist, Original Year, and, if Original Year is unspecified, by Year.  The intent is to sort so that live albums are situated at the time that they are originally recorded, rather than the year of release, as well as for reissues.  However, I can't get it to sort by Original Year.

My Custom Sort is Album Artist / Original Year / Year.  When I sort on this basis, it just sorts by Album Artist / Year.
