I was once getting quite good at all the details of MB, but I went away for the last year doing other things, and now I don't remember squat! Let me briefly explain what I am trying to do:
BACKGROUND
I keep a main library on one computer, all lossless files, and I convert all those albums to v5 mp3 on my NAS for use in syncing other devices where I do not want to store the large files. Have not had any problems with this process so far. But today I noticed that some of the songs in the mp3 library did not sound quite right, so I went back to the lossless system and started to test, trying to find out where the problem originated. The album I am using for this test is Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. I am currently running MB 3.3.7491.
THE PROBLEM
I used the File Converter to make a new copy of the track as MP3 Standard Quality, and I wanted to put it in the original library along with the source flac files to make comparisons easy. I selected "output to the source file folder", and because of my "organize" settings, it created a new \Beatles\ folder under the existing album folder for that new mp3 track (I do not think that is a problem, just trying to include all the information). But when I looked for the track to play it in MB, I could not find it. So I assumed that the new sub-folder was the issue, and I manually copied the mp3 track into the main album folder using Windows file explorer. Still could not see it, so I restarted MB. I then saw the message that it found one new file in the monitored folders, so I knew it was really there, but it sill does not show up in the Album and Tracks display.
Now here is the final strange part I really do not understand: My MB display is currently sorted by Album Artist on the left panel, and the center panel is Album and Tracks. The Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album shows 13 tracks, all in FLAC format; the new .mp3 file is not shown at all anywhere under The Beatles. BUT, if I click on the title of the album to just display only that one album, then click on the album art to display all of the tracks, THAT display now shows all three copies of the first track (the original flac version, the new mp3 copy in the sub folder, AND the new mp3 copy in the main album folder with all the flac files).
So why does MB show all three copies of track 01 in the single Album display, but NOT in the Albums and Tracks display?
And just to confuse things even more, if I change the center panel display to be "Album Covers", and then click on the Sgt. Pepper's album to see the tracks, it does NOT show either of the two mp3 copies for the first track, only the original flac version.
