Questions / Preserving Column Browser column width?
« on: February 03, 2021, 03:32:31 PM »
This post is about the column browser which I use in most of my playlists.

I find myself having to resize/reset the column browser constantly. Let's say we set the columns of the column browser as we want them to appear with a specific width. If afterwards we resize MB to a smaller interface and back to a bigger interface, the columns stay static and need to again try and find the sweet spot and reset them. Is there any setting I haven't discovered yet?

The "Reset Size" is not particularly useful in this case as it distributes the width of the columns equally. This uses unneeded space as for some columns only  a narrow column is need (for BPM, Year, Key etc) while for other columns a wider column is needed (i.e. for Artists names)

Wouldn't it better to be able to save/lock the column browsers' width/setting for all columns? Perhaps we could be able to save the column browser width (for all columns) -  which can become narrower upon resizing MB to a smaller interface but one we expand the MB interface again, for the columns to return to only the saved width. If we expand the MB interface beyond that, then the main panel columns could expand contract.  Or in some other way that allows the column browser to return to its previous state before the resizing of MBs interface.

I move between playlists a lot and playlists between them have different amount of columns. So I find myself constantly having to fiddle with getting the column browser go back to the previous ideal state I had it (before resizing MB).

Any thoughts on the subject?

Questions / Adding link in tags or track information for specific songs
« on: January 30, 2021, 11:39:52 AM »
I'm looking to add a clickable link/hyperlink relating to only specific songs.

This can be anything from where the song was downloaded, a link that relates to the specific information about the song i.e. how it was produced etc.

I can put a link i.e. in the comments tag (and make the comments tag visible in the Track Information Panel). But this way it cannot be clickable,  looks messy, and takes a lot of space.

Would the above be possible in any way by using one of the tags or with any other method/workaround?

Bug Reports / Love & Comment Tag bug
« on: January 19, 2021, 06:58:44 PM »
If you 'Love'  (or favorite) a track and right after you put any text in the 'Comment' tag and hit save, the 'Love' gets deselect.

I don't know if this is intentional.

Questions / How should I organize Remixes, Bootlegs, Mashups?
« on: December 19, 2020, 06:43:42 AM »
All my music library is in one folder called “Releases”. This folder includes Singles, Remixes, Mashups, Edits, Bootlegs, Instrumentals, Acoustic, Vocal Mixes (no albums or compilations).

I like to filter my library with the column browser using the “Album artist”, “Genre”, “Year”, “BPM”, “Key”, "Grouping". Currently, the “Grouping” tag is used to separate the releases into different types i.e. Singles, Remixes, Acoustic etc.

Problem: For releases that are remix, bootleg, Mashup, tracks would still of course appear under the corresponding album artist column. So for example:

#1) Ramin Djawadi - Game of Thrones (KSHMR; The Golden Army Remix)
The Album artist is Ramin Djawadi - however since it was remixed I would want it to appear only under (both) KSHMR and The Golden Army
#2) Offir Malol;  Joel Fletchel  - Here We Wallak [ft Fatman Scoop] (KSHMR Edit)
Again the Album artist is Offir Malol; Joel Fletchel  but I would want the release to appear only under KSHMR as it was remixed by that artist.

The problem is that in the column browser I'm using "album artist".

I can think of a few solutions but not ideal.

Solution 1: Start separating all music into folders by artist (so in each artist folder put releases related to that artist). This solves the problem but its a time consuming process.

Solution 2: To create an additional folder for Remix, Bootleg, Mashup and create a different playlist dedicated for this purpose.  Then use a tag such as composer for the artist doing the remix, edit, bootleg and have the Composer column in the column browser. However, I don’t want to start splitting releases in different folders and having different playlists. I’d like one playlist where I can filter all my library..

Solution 3: Use a tag such as “Remixer” provided by MB. However, there are a few things I don’t like with this approach that I can list.

Is there any other solution which I didn't think of to keep all music in a single folder and whereby an artist’s releases i.e. singles, mashups, bootlegs, remixes, edits  will be found under a single artist location when I select the artist in MB?

Thank you for your time

I use the Column Browser to filter all my library.

One of the columns I am using is for the "Grouping" tag. I use the Grouping to separate the different releases i.e. Singles; Remixes; Albums; Compilations; Live; Mashups; Other

Is it possible to get a different 'Tracks-> Custom View, for each selection in the Grouping?

For example, if I make a selection in the Grouping column for Albums,  to get one view I saved. And If I make a selection in the Grouping column for Singles, get a different Tracks view, etc.

Is there any trick I can utilize to make this happen?

Questions / Replay Gain 2.0/LUFS clarification
« on: April 25, 2020, 10:00:54 AM »
I found this thread:

https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=10394.0

When tagging with replay gain, does MB use the  EBU R128/BS.1770 standard ?

Or is a plugin needed for tagging and displaying LUFS?

Questions / Virtual Tag for Folders
« on: April 23, 2020, 01:05:10 PM »
In my music library I have folders with different 'folder depths'

For example, I have a:

N:\Music\EDM\Mainstage\Artist X\ Alias A\ Albums & EPs
N:\Music\EDM\Progressive\Artist X\Albums & EPs

The virtual tag: $Split(<Path>,\,6) will bring out the albums of

N:\Music\EDM\Progressive\Artist X\Albums & EPs

but not

N:\Music\EDM\Mainstage\Artist X\ Alias A\ Albums & EPs

However, if I use the virtual tag: $Split(<Path>,\,7)

it will bring out the albums of

N:\Music\EDM\Mainstage\Artist X\ Alias A\ Albums & EPs

but not

N:\Music\EDM\Progressive\Artist X\Albums & EPs

Should this be the case?

[As a side note, I am also using the: $Split(<Path>,\,5) syntax for a another virtual tag, to show the folders of all artists. However, even though I have different depth of folders of artists - all folders come up,  as I used the number 5 to indicate the maximum depth level where I have an artist folder residing].

Questions / Mixcloud podcasts with 'Add subscription Link'?
« on: April 23, 2020, 06:05:59 AM »
Is it possible to currently add mixcloud podcasts though the 'Add subscription Link' option?

The "comments" tag:

Have an auto-completion drop down menu for previously used comments, similar to other tag fields of the MB editor (such as the Mood, Publisher etc). This is very useful developing your own code system (this is especially useful for DJs).

 Please see here:

My question relates to the column browser and resizing MB.

When the column browser is set to "horizontal", then all the columns of the column browser automatically adjust when resizing the MB window.

When the column browser is set to "vertical stacked" or "vertical side by side", the column browser columns do not auto adjust when resizing the MB window.

So if you currently set the column browser to "vertical stacked" or "vertical side by side", and the columns to a specific width and afterwards you resize the MB window, you need to go back to column browser and adjust each column individually for all columns to be visible.

Was this feature not implemented on purpose?

Questions / Trying to close muscicbee but process stays open
« on: April 13, 2020, 05:17:13 AM »
Hello,
I have a minor issue - when trying to close musicbee, the app stays open and I have to result to the "Task Manager" to close the application. I'm on Windows 10, using Musicbee portable.

I have tried:

1. pressing the "X" button on the top right hand corner of musicbee. This doesn't close musicbee.  The process stays open and I have to "End the Process" through the "Task Manager".
2. Same thing happens when trying to shut down musicbee through File-> Exit - musicbee still stays open.
3. Same thing happens when trying to shut down musicbee through the app in the Task Manager Tray Window by right clcking on "Close Application".

I'm attaching screenshots for all options.

So in all cases, I need to force closing musicbee by ending the proccess.

Questions / Extra information for Podcasts
« on: December 01, 2018, 12:16:21 PM »

Hovering the mouse over the timeline displays the songs for some podcasts. For most podcasts, this is not an option.

However for podcasts on itunes, you have the "i" button next to the description which most times has a summary of the songs of the playlist.

Is it possible to display this summary?

Questions / Guidance setting up playlist to show singles
« on: November 26, 2018, 12:35:28 PM »

My music library parent/subfolder structure is set up as follows:

Artist 1
   Albums
   Live
   Remixes
   Singles

Artist 2
   Albums
   Live
   Remixes
   Singles
etc.

I am having some difficulty setting up an auto-playlist to show the Singles of each Artist

I created an auto-playlist with the Condition to match,

"Folder Name" is "Singles"

This pulls up all the Singles into the playlist. I am then filtering by "Album Artist" , to get the singles of each artist.

The problem I am having filtering by "Album Artist" is that in many occasions, not all the songs that are within the Singles folder of the chosen Album Artist show up. This is because in each of the Singles folder, I included songs that the artist is featured ( and is the main producer) without him being the officially tagged Album Artist.

For example, assume that the Artist 1 above is: Alesso and a track in the Singles folder is Maroon 5 - This Summer (feat. Alesso)

Alesso
   Singles
Maroon 5 - This Summer (feat. Alesso)

The officially tagged "Album Artist" however is Maroon 5.

So with the autoplaylist set up as above, the tracks in the Singles folder of Alesso show, except for the ones he is not officially the Album Artist, in this case Maroon 5 - This Summer (feat. Alesso) doesn't show up.

I hope the above example makes sense.

What I would like to do is instead of filtering by Album Artist -  to show all Parent folders and selecting a Parent folder, show all the tracks that exist within the Singles folder.

Can this be achieved with a virtual tag?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Questions / Edit existing virtual tag to display Title and feature artist
« on: November 25, 2018, 09:21:17 AM »
I am using the following virtual tag (from the thread created by member redwing), to show both the Title+Artist tag fields in one column.

Code
<Title>$If($First(<Artist>)=<Artists>,," (feat. "$If($Split(<Artists>,;,2)=$RSplit(<Artists>,;,1),$RSplit(<Artists>,;,1),$Replace($RxReplace(<Artists>,"^[^;]+;\s*(.*);\s*([^;]+)$","$1 & $2"),;,","))")")

However I encountered a little problem, that a lot of tracks in their Title tag, have the (feat.Whatever artist) or (feat Whatever artist).

So when I am using the virtual tag, I get double fields displayed. One derived from the above virtual tag and the (feat.Whatever artist) that is present in the Title tag.

Is it possible to disregard any (feat.Whatever artist) or (feat Whatever artist) that is present in the Title tag (without deleting it) but still using the above virtual tag to display both the Title and Artist in one column?

If the above doesn't make sense I can post an example

Questions / Genre Playlist - what is your method?
« on: November 18, 2018, 03:34:31 PM »
I am trying to figure out what are the ways I can sort my library based on genres.

What I do is of course first tag all music files with the tag I find appropriate.

Then I create an autoplaylist Playlist

Is this a good way of doing it? One problem I found with this method is the selecting of hundreds of folders (in the music track source: folders) section that are to be used for the match condition

Also, I am thinking using nested genres and again what would be a good method of doing it?

What is your method? Could you give an example, share any tips or advice or share a screenshot?
