Tips and Tricks / Hotkeys: Starter list
« on: May 29, 2020, 05:32:58 PM »
Hi.

Musicbee has insane amount of customizability. But beginners might get confused as to where to begin once they have imported their music into the player. Following is the list of hotkeys I have been using from years for some of my most used functions. I hope old and new users find something useful here. The focus is on single-handed use. You will find the Hotkeys section in Preference (Ctrl+O).

General: Goto Playing Track at Source
 Ctrl+Enter (change from 'queue last')

General: Restart MusicBee
 Ctrl+Q

Playback: Play Next Track
 Ctrl+Right

Playback: Previous Track
 Ctrl+Left

Player: Volume Down
 Ctrl+Down

Player: Volume Up
 Ctrl+Up

Rating Now Playing: 3 stars
Alt+3 (change from 'rating selected tracks: 3 stars')

Rating Now Playing: 4 stars
Alt+4 (change from 'rating selected tracks: 4 stars')

Rating Now Playing: 5 stars
Alt+5 (change from 'rating selected tracks: 5 stars')

Rating Now Playing: Toggle Love (on Last.fm)
 Alt+L

Rating Now Playing: Unrated
Alt+0 (change from 'rating selected tracks: no stars')
Or Alt+- (change from 'rating selected tracks: unrated')

Delete all the remaining hotkeys for the group of 'Rating Selected Tracks'

Send To: Clipboard (selected files)
Ctrl+Shift+C (settings of what is copied here can be edited in 'Tags (2) > "Send to clipboard" tags')

Note: I changed the hotkeys of the defaults of 'change rating of selected' into 'change rating of now playing' because it's easy to screw up the ratings of tracks if you have some files selected and press the wrong button without meaning to. You can change ratings of multiple files, instead, by selecting them and editing their properties.

I don't use hotkeys for 1 or 2 stars because if I dislike a track so much I delete it from my library.

Bug Reports / Artwork grabbing for some albums not working
« on: May 22, 2020, 09:50:28 AM »
Hi, Steven and team.

I recently cleaned the artwork from all my tracks and let Musicbee research for them as I play the tracks. I observed that some albums that MB used to find the artwork for before are not being searched now. All the sources like Fanart, iTunes, etc. are active.

Example albums whose artwork is not being found:
Breaking Bad - Season 1
Batman: Arkham City
Pulp Fiction
Kill Bill: Vol. 1

Version from Windows store: 3.3.7367

Bug Reports / Replay Gain being reapplied
« on: October 01, 2017, 01:40:16 PM »
I have observed two issues with regards to the "send to volume analysis" feature:

1. same tracks are being process again and again if I do a "select all" in the library and do volumen analysis

2. "on album basis" is ticked even if I untick it in previous attempts. I remember that older versions of MusicBee would leave the ticks unchanged in subsequent attempts.

Am I missing anything?

Questions / Auto-tag by album feature puts a semicolon instead of 'feat'
« on: February 11, 2017, 04:13:59 PM »
I use Picard for most of my tagging before the music is imported into MusicBee. However, sometimes I use MusicBee's album search to tag my tracks. I never felt there was a problem with it until today when I realised a song that I was playing through PowerAmp on my Android phone that should have the artist 'The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk' showed on Last.fm as 'THE WEEKND DAFT PUNK'. So, it didn't link to the song on the website too, just a blank entry. I looked at the tags of the song by importing it into Picard and realised that when I find the info for a song through MusicBee there's a semicolon added in the artist field instead of 'feat.'

I am sharing images to clarify what I mean. This is for the song 'My First Kiss'. First image is when tagging through Picard, second image is after tagging through MusicBee and then importing into  Picard to see the results. Please confirm if it's the way MusicBee is supposed to work or if it can be improved.

Picard tagged

MusicBee tagged

To confirm, my issue is not with the info that MusicBee sends to Last.fm when scrobbling, but the info it sends to the phone when syncing which in turn sends the info to Last.fm when scrobbling.

Beyond MusicBee / Happy New Year!
« on: January 01, 2017, 10:07:17 AM »
Wishing all this awesome community and its software makers a Blest New Year! May all your wishes keep coming true.

Previous versions of MusicBee had this. It was useful. Please bring it back. I used to use the following options to weed out the duplicates:

artist
title
track difference < 10 seconds

Without the third option it's easy to end up deleting tracks that are different recordings/versions of the same song.

MusicBee Wishlist / Cycle through skins
« on: March 07, 2016, 05:20:47 PM »
Either through a button or a hotkey. Currently, it's a pain having to go through the menu to find the skins and keep choosing the next one until we find something we like.

Thanks in advance for the continued good work, guys.

Hey Steven and team,

Before v3, when I deleted a file that was playing, the player would usually start playing the next song in queue. It did refuse to do that once in a while, but I wasn't worried about it.

But with v3, it never plays the next file after current file is deleted.

version: 3.0.5909

Currently it only shows album, file size and length of play. I would love to see number of tracks total as well. Thanks Steven.

In the *Now Playing* panel, hovering over the artwork gives a tooltip giving info like image res, artist, album name, etc.

My default browsing view is *Track details* but I like using *Artwork* so I can right click and 'search artwork'.

So, if a tooltip pops up when pointing at the album art directly from the main view then it would be great. I like making sure all my artwork are exactly square and high resolution when possible.

Questions / Congratulations on being listed on FileHippo finally!
« on: April 03, 2014, 01:32:30 PM »
I think it's been a month since MusicBee has been shown on Filehippo. Amazing that it took them this long to realise what an awesome piece of freeware media player MusicBee is. :D

Questions / How does MB search within Google for artwork?
« on: January 02, 2014, 04:59:21 PM »
I am curious to know how the artwork search works.

<< artist - title
Rihanna Feat. Britney Spears - S&M (Dark Intensity Remix) >>

Although I really like the better quality results in the updates for artwork search, songs like the above mentioned don't give good results compared to a manual search.

The MOST BASIC requirement I have for an artwork is for it to be *square* and the *medium* image size. So by those settings in Google Images the first image that shows is better than the result that shows within MB.

MusicBee Wishlist / Playlist song addition bug
« on: June 20, 2013, 01:53:24 PM »
Hey Steve,
Been a while since I posted here. :)

I realised, when you add a song to a PL, by default a pop will let you know if it's a duplicate in the list, you can chose to add it or not, with an option to tick DO THAT FROM NOW ON.

However, that ticking doesn't do anything - if I say 'no don't add the duplicate' and try that with another song, the pop will not appear but the song will be added nonetheless.

Also, the duplicate finder from the MENU, when in the Playlist view, needs to delete the file ONLY from the list and not from the disk itself. If we want to do that we would do the duplicate finding from the Music Library itself, wouldn't we?

Hope things are going well for you. Thanks again.

Hey,
MB is amazing in the sense that it keeps a track of your playcount even when unable to connect to Last.fm so that it can submit them when connected next. But that doesn't happen when you 'love' a track.

Is is possible to queue them as well?

Thanks again Stephen for the continuous good work!
