On low resolution displays (e.g. 1024x768), the plug-in configuration dialogue boxes don't fit on the screen, and, lacking a scroll bar, you can't easily accept the settings, as you can't get to the 'OK' button.

You can tab to the OK button, waiting for it to scroll round to the first setting, and then shift-tabbing back twice to get to the 'OK' button. But on some larger config dialogue boxes, some of the settings are unavailable.

Am I missing something, or should I put this in as a feature request?

Questions / Accessing DLNA servers in MusicBee
« on: July 21, 2019, 06:45:58 PM »
I have confidently stated that MB can access a DLNA Server, and play music from it. I'm sure this must be based on experience of actually doing it. But I can't, at the moment, find remember how to do it...

Can anyone remind me, please...?

Questions / Clipping indicator in the Wave display?
« on: February 15, 2019, 08:43:21 PM »
Just pondering the Loudness Wars, and the ability of tools like Audacity to show FSD clipping in files. Since MB has a wave display, is there an option to add clipping indication (e.g a red sample line) in the wave display?

And, if not, would there be any support for a feature request to do this?

Or even to add a DR measurement tool/tagger in MB? There's a previous discussion about using external tools to add DR tags:

Questions / Refreshing/reconnecting library
« on: January 20, 2019, 02:02:32 PM »
I have MB installed on a small tablet, accessing my NAS. I have MB scan a mapped drive. Sometimes when the tablet comes up, it doesn't reconnect to the NAS drives immediately. If I don't notice this, and start up MB, it can't find the library, so all album artwork becomes blank, and all tracks in 'now playing' are marked with a red cross. If I play one of the tracks in now playing, it does play, but, as I have auto-DJ enabled, when it comes to the end of that track, it fills the now playing buffer with that one track.

This isn't a problem with MB; it's a problem with the tablet. But I'd welcome suggestions for the quickest way to get MB to 'find' the library again. Sometimes, simply shutting it down and restarting is enough, but not this time. I've tried re-mapping the library, but, of course, nothing has actually changed. I'm currectly running an entire library re-scan, but that takes quite a long time.

Thanks.

Questions / Choosing file types to import
« on: December 07, 2018, 08:55:55 PM »
I'm sure I'm missing the obvious, or my Google-foo is weak today, but I'm struggling to find a way to control the file types that MB will import.

I've searched through all the preferences. I've been through the import menus. I've searched the wiki, and googled, but I'm still stumped.

I'm used to seeing a set of tick boxes to select media file types a media manager will import. But I can't find one.

This all came about whilst trying to see if MB will support DSD files; there's a BASS codec for it, but I'm not sure if that's part of the standard install, or whether I've added it at some point...

Can someone point me to the obvious dialogue I've missed, please?

Questions / CD ripping logfile creation?
« on: August 06, 2018, 01:59:08 PM »
I've been a longtime EAC user, but, in response to another query here, I tried MB's ripper. Very nice.

The only thing it didn't seem to do is write a logfile recording the rip status (errors found, AccurateRip results, etc).

I've used the logfiles EAC creates to find which discs have had errors; when ripping, I tend to do a bunch at once, and don't want to fiddle with sorting out errors as they occur. So I search the logfiles for the relevant error report strings, and sort out problems when I feel the urge...

Is there an option to create logifles that I'm missing in the CD Ripping preferences, or is this something for the wishlist?

Thanks.

Questions / MusicBee as DLNA renderer?
« on: July 25, 2018, 03:42:05 PM »
Before I start; yes, I know the UPnP/DLNA plug-in is no longer supported, but the Wiki page on it has been (unfortunately) deleted, so the capabilities of the plug-in don't seem to be documented.

I use the UPnP/DLNA plug-in to play music to the various DLNA renderers around the house (MediaMonkey, BubbleUPnP, Denon receiver, SoundMate, etc). It works very nicely.

What I'm wondering is if the plug-in allows MB to act as a renderer, receiving streams. This is mainly an issue of curiosity, that came about as I described the streaming facilities I use, and realising that MB did not appear to be symmetric, unlike MM & Bubble. I'm not expecting anything to be done if it can't, but I'd like to know if I'm missing some option in the plug-in configuration.

Thanks.

Questions / How to remove a folder from the library?
« on: July 26, 2017, 12:10:29 AM »
I accidentally included a folder of media into the monitored folders list, and those files are now in the library, but I don't want them.

I have corrected the list of monitored folders, restarted MB, tried setting continuous monitoring, but no matter what I do, I can't seem to clear those tracks from the library.

If I enable the folder browser view, I can see the unwanted folder. If I right-click/delete, it actually deletes the physical folder (I tried, taking a copy first, given the warning it gives...). I don't want to physically delete the folder; I just want to delete it from the library.

I'm sure this is just a philosophical misunderstandng on my part, having used MediaMonkey too long, and got used to it presenting physical and logical library browser views, and allowing the library to be manipulated from either (actually, MM gives both choices; delete from library only, or delete from disk).

Questions / Artists with names starting with punctuation
« on: July 06, 2017, 12:04:47 AM »
Some artists have names beginning with punctuation. In my collection, '#9 Dream' and '...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead'.

These produce different behaviour in the different MB views.

In the 'Music' view, the artist can be selected without problem, and the details of music by that artist appear in the browser.

In the 'Music Explorer' view, however, selecting one of these artists causes a brief appearance of the artist details in the banner (including artist picture), but then they quickly disappear, to be replaced by, in my case, the (Empty) artist (i.e. tracks that have a blank artist tag).

So, am I missing something, or is this unintentional behaviour? The fact that the two views behave differently suggests unintentional.

Questions / Saving album artwork from 'Search Internet for Picture'
« on: July 05, 2017, 11:55:04 PM »
MB does a great job of finding quality artwork, but, although it replaces the artwork shown in the browser, I can't seem to find a way to get it to write the artwork to the folder containing the album.

In preferences/tag(1), I have the option 'copy picture to folder.jpg' set.

In the 'Search...' dialogue box, I have the 'link the picture to this music track' and 'save to folder.jpg' options set.

When I hit 'Okay', the image in the browser updates, and the timestamp of the original folder.jpg file gets updated to the current time, but the image file is not replaced.

If I delete the existing 'folder.jpg' before doing the search, it writes the new image file to the correct folder.

The original 'folder'jpg' files are not write-protected.

So it looks like it's touching the file, but not overwriting it, but must be updating a cover art database somewhere (it's not in the Artist or Soundtrack image folders).

Does anyone know how I can make MB overwrite the existing image?

I was assuming 'Play Now' would take the selected track(s), and insert them into the current playlist, at the current point of playing, and start playing immediately. i.e. the same as 'Queue Next', only taking immediate effect.

Using the Music browser pane, higlighting a single track (from the entire library), and doing right-click 'Play Now' causes the current 'Playing Tracks' list to be replaced with the entire library. Play starts at the track selected.

Selecting a track from a single artist causes the same effect, only limited to the artist tracks.

I note that the options in 'Play More' seem to support the addition of multiple tracks to the playlist. 'Queue Next' and 'Queue Last' work as expected for the single selected track (only inserting the selected track(s) into the current playlist).

Ah. Selecting more than one track (from the entire library), and hitting 'Play Now' replaces the current playlist with only the selected tracks, and starts playing the first of the selected tracks. If Auto-DJ is enabled, the playlist is filled with the requisite number of ranfomly-selected tracks.

As a fairly recent MusicBee user, I assume I'm doing something wrong, or misunderstanding how it is meant to work, as this seems such an obvious error, but search hasn't revealed any previous reports.
