Bug Reports / Drag & Drop Tagging no longer works since update

Hi everyone.

I've just updated my MusicBee from v.3.0 to v.3.1 (v3.1.6454.19233). Since I Updated the software, I can't tag albums using drag and drop anymore (for example dragging the album to the "Year" column to set the Year tag). A forbidden icon appears next to the cursor (see the following picture).


Would anyone know how to account for it ?

Questions / Now Playing - Playlist display - Impossible to save panel options

Hello everybody.

Until now, I have always set the Now Playing tab in "Large Artwork" mode, but I can't display much information about the tracks in the playlist right panel (only the track numbers, names and lenght). And as I don't realy care about artists' biographies or lyrics, there is a lot of lost space.



I switched to the Playlist mode.



But I face another problem. In order to display a large album cover, I tried to hide every other information in the right part of the screen (such as the wavebar, artist biography, lyrics, etc.). It works but every time I close MusicBee, options are reset and I need to hide these information every day...

Here is how I would like it to be automaticaly :



Do you know how to account for it and, maybe, how to solve the problem ?
(Idéaly, I would love the artwork to be at the left but I assume it's not possible)

Questions / How to play one whole random album using Auto DJ ?

I use MusicBee to browse a very large collection of film music albums. Sometime, I would like to click a simple button to play one random album from my collection.

The problem is that AutoDJ has been thought to play random tracks rather than random albums. I tried to configure it so that it would select random albums instead of random trakcs, but the problem is that you have to select the number of tracks Auto DJ will send in the auto-generated playlist... For example, il you ask it to select 30 tracks, either the ramdom album is shorter and another album is added to fit the 30 requested tracks, either it is longer and the last tracks are missing.

It there a solution to this problem ? Would it be possible, for example, to create a "Play random album" button ?

Questions / Displaying long album titles in Cover Art View

Hi everyone.

Using MusicBee is now my daily routine and I enjoy it tremendously !

I realised that I faced a small problem with long album titles in the Cover Art View Main Panel.

For example, with an album named "Star Wars I : The Phantom Menace (Expanded Edition)" or someting like that, the title is too long to be entirely displayed.

I've tried to activate the option "merge fields (so long text wraps to the next line)" but I can't see any difference...

Would it be possible :
- either to automaticaly continue to the next line ?
- or to display the whole title in the Expanded Panel that appears when you click on the album
- or to simply have the whole title appear when the mouse is over the title (either under the album cover or in the expanded panel) ?

Questions / Multiple embedded cover arts : automaticaly display the higher resolution ?

I have uploaded a very large collection of music which I now browse with great pleasure from MusicBee.

When I tagged my files, I often replaced the poor quality cover art by a larger one. Yet, I've just realised that Tag&Rename actually added mine without erasing the previous ones. As a result, MusicBee has to choose between two cover arts and often select the "wrong", with poor quality (200 or 300 px) : it doesn't even fill the expanded album panel.

In the Tag Editor, you can see there are two embedded artworks : the first is 200px, the second is 500px.


In order to solve the problem, I need to manualy erase it (or to select to second one, with higher resolution, as the main cover) if I want MusicBee to display the best one.

Do you know if there is a way to make it automatic (either by asking MB to automatically display the best one OR by automatically erasing the lower resolution) ?
I would help me to save a LOT of time !

MusicBee Wishlist / Custom Tab Icons

I don't know if it's easy to do but I have been thinking it would be great to be abble to customize tab icons (it would be particularly useful when you pin mutiple playlist tabs : currently they all share the same icon and only the text is different so you can't hide the text).

Questions / Airplay problem when starting to stream album : simple feature could solve it ?

As the UPNP plugin is not working properly and Steven said he can't fix it before long, I have decided to buy the Eric Milles Airplay plugin, which has been working fine until now. I use it to stream music from MusicBee to my wireless Marantz M-CR510 audio amplifier.

Yet, I sometimes face a problem : as MusicBee needs a certain time to establish the connection with the amplifier, the first track of an album starts but no sound is transmitted during the first seconds of the track. Most of the time, it's not a problem, but it's really annoying when your track doesn't have one or two seconds of silence in it before the sound starts. A famous example is the StarWars Main Title, with the opening fanfare "exploding" litteraly right at the beginning of the track.

For that reason, I'll try to get in touch with Eric Milles, but I guess the problem is part of Airplay streaming : it's normal there need one or two seconds before the sound is transmited. I'm not sure he will be able to change anything.

That's why I allow myself to ask if a new "Sound Effect" option could be added in the Player Menu that would allow the user to add, say, one or two seconds of silence at the beginning of an album (not of all tracks because the problem happens only at the beginning of the album, when MusicBee has to connect to the amplifier via Airplay).

I know its a very specific problem and I would understand if you don't have to time to help me with this, Steven. Besides, maybe I'm wrong and maybe such a feature wouldn't solve my problem...

PS : I beg you to forgive me if I am not very clear. English is not my mother tongue, and it's sometimes hard to explain such specific problems in a foreign language.

MusicBee Wishlist / "Bookmarks" to make a preselection of albums to be played

I've been using MusicBee for a few weeks now and I've been thinking that a new feature could be welcome.

I have a large collection of music (both soundtracks and classical). Before using MusicBee, I used to make a selection of albums I would like to listen to, for example, in the coming week. I copied them in a specific folder where I could access to them faster. That was not very convenient...

I wonder whether it could be possible to add a "bookmark" feature to MusicBee that would allow users to preselect some albums to be read, as Web Browser does with "Favorites"/"Bookmarks" for web pages. In a perfect world, it could be a star displayed next to the Cover art or the title of the album : one could click on it to set the album as "Favorite" ou "To be listened" and it would be possible to browser only the "favorite" or "to be listened" albums by clicking a new "Inbox"-like button in the Navigator (Left Sidebar).

What do you think about it ? Would it be possible/interesting ? Or is it just a personnal fancy ?

Questions / Thumbnail Browser with Country Flags

I have had the idea to use the Thumbnail Browser to browse my albums by countries, displaying their flags (with a 3.0 Portable version of MusicBee).

In order to do so, I have created a Custon Tag called "Pays" (Countries, in French).
I have then set up the Thumbnail Browser to use this custom tag, but for now it uses album covers.

I would like to know if there is a folder in which I could paste the PNG or JPG flag files with the name of the countries or if I need to drag and drop every flag to the corresponding country.

Questions / [LAST NAME, First Name] artists in Thumbnail Browser with virtual tags

I have created a new virtual tag following the instructions in the WIKI, in order to display classical composers LAST NAMES first and then their First names.
Sort-Composer = $IsNull(<Composer>,,$If($Contains(<Composer>," ")="F",<Composer>,$RSplit(<Composer>," ",1)", "$Replace(<Composer>*,$RSplit(<Composer>," ",1)*,)))

I can use this function in the Column Browser, but I can't find it in the Thumbnail Browser, maybe because it's not a proper tag... It there a way to do that ?


I would also like to know if i would be possible, do use the same virtual tag, but asking MusicBee to display the composer's LAST NAME in capital letters or in Bold police, and then his First Name in normal police.
Either : BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van
Or : Beethoven, Ludwig van
Or both : BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van

Questions / Thumbnail Browser before Column Browser to narrow down the choice

I'm sorry if it has already been asked and answered to, but I didn't found any thread about it...

I'm willing to organise MusicBee V.3.0 this way :
Left Sidebar : Library Explorer to select the genre
Then, Left Main Panel : Thumbnail Browser to select between the remaining artists who correspond to the selected genre
Then, in the Main Pannel : 1. Vertical Column Browser to select the musical work (ex : Symphony No.**)
                                        2. Files Panel with a Cover and Tracks view to select the interpretation (ex : which conductor conducted the symphony)

Yet, I'm facing a problem : once the Artist is selected in the Thumbnail Panel (which is on the Left Main Panel), if you click on a category in the Column Browser (which is in the Main Panel), clicking on it erases the artist you have already selected.

Ex : I select the artist (Rachmaninov), then I have a list of all his symphonies (Symphony No.1, Symphony No.2, etc.) that appears in the Column Browser, but when I click on symphony No.1, instead of narrowing the search to display only all the interpretations of Rachmaninov's Symphony No.1, I can see all the Symphonies No.1 of my collection (that of Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and all of those that composed one...).

Is there a way to associate the Thumbnail Browser and the Column Browser in order to gradualy narrow down the search the way I'd like ?

MusicBee Wishlist / Switchable interface/ways of browsing files

May I make a suggestion for the next update ?

In the current version, one can open multiple tabs and partly customise their appearance (for example, album cover view in the main panel of the first tab / only tracks in the main panel of the second). It would be even better if one could also change the categories and width of the column browser from one tab to another (for example, year and country in the first / country and conductor in the second, etc.).
Example 1 : The general music configuration I would like to have in the first tab

Example 2 : A classical music configuration that could be in a second tab, allowing to swith between the two without having to reconfigure the column browser (which I had to do to take the screenshot).


I hope you understand what I mean...
Do you think such improvements could be easily introduced ? Or is it hard to do for you ?
All I would like to know is if I can hope for such an improvement or if I should just forget about it.

Until such a feature is available, I think I may cheat and use both Version 2.5 and 3.0 but with different configuration, using 2.5 for Classical Music and 3.0 for other genres. Yet, that's not very convenient...

Questions / Saving customisations (custom tags, etc.)

Hello everyone.

I have a quite simple question : I'am creating custom tags for my collection. For example, I want to associate a geographical origin (country) to each album. I understand the only way is to create a custom tag. I also understand (but maybe I'm wrong) that such a tag will not be written inside the file tags but will me memorised by MusicBee. I guess it's stored in a special file. I would like to know which one in order to be able to save it on an external storage and not to run the risk to lose it by mistake.

Questions / Scan for new files : why rescanning all the files ?

I have just bought a NAS (QNAP TS-231) and wish to use MusicBee to access to the very numerous files I stored on it. I created a new collection encompassing all the musical files on the NAS. For now, it's about 30.000 files, but I haven't transfered all my files yet : it will be much more in the end.

I've come across two problems :
- I have asked MusicBee to automatically scan the NAS for new files each time I start MusicBee. But it doesn't.
- When I ask manually MusicBee to scan for new files, it actualy scan ALL the files, including those it has already scanned and memorized. As a result, the process is very long (and it sometimes block for a long time when arriving at the one or two last files to scan...).

What is surprising is that I read on the Wikia that there was a feature asking MusicBee to scan only new files, but I can't find it anymore... how to account for that ?

Bug Reports / MusicBee freezes while playing music, until restarted

I've been using MusicBee for a few days now and I consider it the best music player I've used so far !

Yet, I have come across a regular bug which I would like to fix, if possible.

I use MusicBee to play music on my wireless audio amplifier, via DLNA (I have download and setup the corresponding plugin).
Quite regularly, when playing, MusicBee freezes and playing stops until I shut down the program and restart it.
I have noticed it often correspond to moments of high CPU and physical memory usage (my laptop's fan is making more noise than it usualy does) : it occurs while I'm not doing anything special but listening to music and websurfing. I first thought it was due to library syncronisation, but I have disabled it. I also disconnected by USB hard disk drive. I can't explain why MusicBee suddenly uses so much CPU power and memory...

Do you have any idea how to fix the problem ?
