Questions / Using and working with a custom field
« on: January 25, 2016, 11:00:54 PM »
Hello everyone,
I have a request and question that may sound a bit odd. Prologue: Ever since collecting digital music I lobbied for ratings to be saved inside the single files. Back then I used Winamp. This subject was discussed various times in their forum but never taken into serious consideration (even though there were many users who supported my request). Therefore I just "misused" the "BPM" field to enter my ratings. I basically use a five-star-rating with have half steps. So, 5 stars is "10" points; 3 1/2 stars yields a "7" and so on. I hope you get the idea.

In MusicBee I'm finding the custom fields and I would like to convert my rating from the "BPM" field to "Custom3". Since I'm tagging my digital files using MP3Tag editor I will have to work using this table:
http://help.mp3tag.de/main_tags.html
According to this post (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=15257.msg90997#msg90997) users have done similar things but the preferences urge me to use a predefined value (which I don't want). So, whatever value is entered in the file is only meant to be stored in my database. But how do I address that? How can I call the value in that field? Can anyone tell me what ID3 abbreviation I need to address when using the Custom3 field? Thanks you guys in advance!!

Questions / Last.fm woes and further thoughts
« on: September 06, 2015, 12:47:44 AM »
I'm sure many of you music lovers will know about the trouble Last.fm caused with the new look and limited services of their website. Many things which users came to love over the years have gone. No one can know for sure if the full functionality will ever come back.

Because of this unsatisfying situation I was wondering if MusicBee should be the starting point of a new way for music lovers to track their own listening habits. Since we have a built-in Last.fm scrobbling service why not have a reporting function which makes all that available to - let's say - services like WordPress or MusicBrainz? Or make it exportable to simple text files. Obviously we cannot rely on single services like last.fm which may change due to their commercial targets. Therefore I'd say: Leave the data to the users who created them!

MusicBee Wishlist / Integration with Windows
« on: January 10, 2015, 07:32:51 PM »
Hello everyone,
I'm a music lover beyond his 40s with an awesome music library  ;) First off I'd just like to state my admiration for MusicBee which has now totally replaced Winamp on my computer. I still need to get used to all features of MusicBee but here's one thing that on my wish-list.

Actually this idea/wish does not pertain to the program itself, but to the functionality in Windows. It would be great to introduce registry commands which would enable commands like "play", "enqueue as next", etc. from the Windows (file) Explorer. Currently - when I make a right mouse click on any music file - I cannot directly send that file to MusicBee. I think this wouldn't be hard to do. Thank s a lot and keep up the good work!
