Questions / Re: RateYourMusic + MusicBee
« on: December 27, 2023, 01:25:24 AM »
Well that kills the hope of any automation, thank you for the in-depth answer! Would you mind giving me your thoughts on where to put the Descriptors?
I can of course but it in a custom tag, but because it's manual I would like to avoid any extra clicks. I currently use "Grouping" to make subheadings in albums, so I can't use that tag field.

Perhaps keywords? But this splits tags by semi-colon and the descriptors are separated by a comma. Can the delimiter be adjusted somehow?

Questions / RateYourMusic + MusicBee

Hi all,

Is there any sort of way to have MusicBee pull tags from RateYourMusic?
I vastly prefer the genre tags from there over Discogs (I currently get them there via TagScan).

Also RYM has great "Descriptors" for music. Where would you put those in MusicBee tags?
Mood, Occassion, Keywords, something else?

I have been using MusicBee and have re-done a lot of things simply because I went by trail and error or went too fast before reading up on best practices.
I want to avoid that now and re-do my albums with the information from RYM to create uniformity across my library.

Questions / Grouping, Comments, Work, Movement etc.
« on: December 09, 2023, 04:08:44 AM »
Hello all,

Tl;Dr; Is there a consensus on which tag to use for "subheading" of an album?

Screenshots here

More info:
I was quite happy finding out I could display "Grouping" in my album view with tracks. This is my preferred screen for browsing music with friends. It took quite some manual labour adding the "Grouping" tags to the batches of tracks in long albums.

To my horror I saw that Discogs through TagScanner adds these sub-groups in "Comments".
For the album in the screenshot Discogs delivers the countries of each work in "Comments".

So I read a discussion where Movements/Pieces were discussed and there were many ways that lead to Rome. Also because not all users are looking for the same result.

I understand that on Discogs some users might not have added things in the right field, so my question is: if I don't want to shorten the filenames but only want each "part" of an album to have a heading before it, what tag would you fill?

Questions / Headings: comment v grouping
« on: July 31, 2023, 08:01:56 PM »
Hi all,

Some classical works have an album that is broken up into different movements or pieces. I have always added those headings to 'Grouping' and then switched them to display that tag in an album overview.

However I just noticed that those type of heading get pulled from Discogs into TagScanner under the tag 'Comment'.

What is your best method? Keep it under Grouping or use Comment from now on?

Questions / Re: "Ghost" covers, easier way to remove?

Fantastic, thank you so much!
What does re-scanning actually do?
It checks the files and links and removes the dead ones?

I also experimented with simply editing the list "Set which pictures are displayed" and left only embedded.
But your solution made sure that they were also really gone, not just hidden. :)

Questions / "Ghost" covers, easier way to remove?
« on: May 03, 2023, 03:22:10 PM »
Situation:

I finally settled on embedding covers.
So I deleted all the cover.jpg and back.jpg files that I could find in my library.

With the Artwork Manager I am now embedding 1000px or higher album art.
However,  a LOT of albums have a dead link to their old cover.jpg and I have to remove them manually.
Is there any way to speed it up? Could I use mp3tag for this instead?

Questions / Re: Showing playlist title in Theater Mode
« on: March 20, 2023, 07:11:04 PM »
Hi Hiccup,

thanks for the welcome and I am glad you are enjoying the compilation!

I do not want to embed the image into the files, because that would overwrite their respective cover.jpg
The method you describe I have used to re-create obscure releases from my vinyl collection such as this:
https://www.discogs.com/release/25893628-Various-Klinken-op-Klanken

It was essentially a promo vinyl but it had sentimental value to me.
So I sourced all the tracks that were released on different albums and thus re-created the album.

Portable Devices / SyncThing quirk
« on: March 20, 2023, 07:01:48 PM »
Hello all!

I use the Inbox for getting files ready to move to the Library.
Then the Library gets synced with my device (Sony NW-A105).
However, I also move for instance Christmas music from the Library to the Inbox when I do not want them synced on my device anymore.
Not only do I save space, I also don't have to scroll past 20 Christmas albums the whole year.

Now comes the snag:
I decided to set up wireless syncing of my MusicBee library using SyncThing.
Inbox files are at their location outside the MusicBee Library folder.
But files that have been auto-organized into the Library and then moved BACK to the Inbox are still in the folder "MusicBee Library".

Is there a way to make them move to an Inbox folder of somesorts? I have not been able to find a solution in the setting.

The options that do not apply here:
- Syncing only Library or excluding Christmas songs through excluding them as a playlist: SyncThing can only sync whole folder or files without distinction.
- Using MusicBee Wifi Sync: I want to use a single program for all my syncing needs.

Questions / Showing playlist title in Theater Mode
« on: January 28, 2023, 09:22:41 PM »
Hello all,

One of my friends really liked this compilation:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G68Q4lCM5pQ

So I remade it as a playlist in Musicbee, I even sourced the same image and changed the background colour.
Now the question I have is: can I somehow set up Theater Mode or another fullscreen mode to show the image and background colour?
Currently it shows the song that plays with the corresponding album cover, and that is not what I am looking for.

Any ideas?

Thank you for the help!
