MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Bio Language

Where do I disable the automatic features for artist and bio images?
I didn't find it!!!
In any case, I didn't say to eliminate the service but to make it manual, perhaps with a button or a pop-up menu with the right mouse button.
You actually did say "Wouldn't it be more convenient to eliminate all the automation?" and "My request: can't all the automatic systems be removed?". It sounds like you've already discovered the manual method both of bios and images, so you know it's already been made manual to some extent.

If your request had been simply to make manual management more robust, I wouldn't have objected.  When you start talking about removing automation for everyone because iTunes misspelled an artist's name, then yes I do have a problem with that.

If you want to disable these, you don't put the images in your layouts or look at the biographies or discographies if they're not useful to you.  Disabled.  I don't think I've ever looked at an artist biography on purpose in MB in the years I've been using it, so it's essentially disabled for me.  I do have artist images in my layout.  They are sometimes (horror) incorrect.  If I notice it, I block the image from being displayed again.  Sometimes the incorrect image is amusing to me so I leave it and get a chuckle whenever it comes up. Nothing in this world is perfect, and these automations are useful about 99 times for every time they are not.

If space is an issue, you can even get fancy and write a batch file to clear the bio and image folders and run it in Task Scheduler periodically.

I hope your answer was mistranslated by the translator.
Are you telling me not to use a service in the program because you know it doesn't work?
However, I did not peremptorily ask to eliminate the service but only the automation.
And I also wrote: And maybe insert a button, a menu that by clicking on it manually downloads the biography, as happens with covers. So I didn't say to remove it completely.
Maybe the translation of what I write is not correct?
Let's see if it goes better. We remove the automations and make them manual, so that if you don't like an image you can leave it blank. "Artist image not present"
You write to me: The user can quite easily turn off features they don't want and/or ignore retrieved data that doesn't meet their needs. There's no reason to remove these features making them available to no one.
Then you write to me: I don't think I've ever looked at an artist biography on purpose in MB in the years I've been using it, so it's essentially disabled for me.
So you've never used the artist biography and images?
Don't you know that the artist's image cannot be empty?
You can block the image you don't like but it is replaced by another that may be worse. You can do this 5 times the last one is whatever remains.
If there is this opportunity, why not make the most of it?
At this point I understand why no one uses the image and biographical part of the artist.

Greetings

My request: can't all the automatic systems be removed?
-1.  No.  I think most of what's done by MB automatically is quite popular despite the occasional incorrect image or lyric.

The user can quite easily turn off features they don't want and/or ignore retrieved data that doesn't meet their needs.  There's no reason to remove these features making them available to no one.

Thanks for the reply

Automations are useful but not default.
An example: Loradana Bertè in music explorer does not exist because on iTunes they write Loredana Berte' which is incorrect but in this way I, who spell the name correctly, cannot see the biography or the discography, even though I have inserted a correct biography in the panel.
In conclusion, I'll generally leave aside the biographies: MB is an excellent program for managing music files but absolutely not for the biographies of the artists of the songs. Proof of this is that when you edit a bio and forget to save it, there is no warning to remind you to save it.

MusicBee Wishlist / Bio Language

https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=39977.0

In this thread we talked about the language of biographies.
Wouldn't it be more convenient to eliminate all the automation?
After all, for the images of artists you often find images that have nothing to do with the artist, not even remotely.
The biography is always in English and sometimes even here it is incorrect or cannot be found.
To search for biographies in my language I created a link in the internet preferences https://www.last.fm/it/music/<Artist>/+wiki and the biography is displayed in my language if present. But I always have to copy and paste it into the bio panel.
It happened to me that the image of the artist found was that of an industrialist of the same name as the artist searched for.
My request: can't all the automatic systems be removed?
And perhaps insert a button, a menu that by clicking it downloads the biography manually, as happens with the covers.
And while we're at it. Why is the artist image in the music explorer not linked to the image in the artist image panel?

Questions / Visualizzazione artisti
« on: September 26, 2023, 09:57:18 AM »
I don't know if it's possible to do this!!!
Artists: Albano & Romina Power
I'm viewing Al Bano in the music explorer and in the multiple artists separator, when he performs with Romina I put Al Bano & Romina Power.
Only the discs in which Al Bano appears are displayed to me and not those in which he appears paired with Romina which, in my opinion, should be in the "Appears in ..." section
If in the multiple artists separator I divide the two artists, viewing Al Bano however puts them all together, both those he performed alone and those paired with Romina.
In summary: in the first case he creates three distinct artists. Viewing Al Bano or Romina Power I will not see those produced together.
In the second case the two artists are created by mixing all the albums produced together and not.
Is there a way that, if it only displays Al Bano, it will show me the albums produced together with Romina Power in "Appare In..."?

Questions / Re: Artist image display

The best way to control which images are displayed for an artist is to save your own images in the Artist Images folder of your library in the format of <Artist>.jpg.

You can save multiple images for each artist in a format like <Artist>_1.jpg <Artist>_2.jpg etc.

The artist name much exactly match the name in your library.

The more images you have, the smaller the chance it will have to go out and search for images you may not want.

In fact that's what I did.
There are three images saved.
1) Wess
2) Dori Ghezzi
3) Wess & Dori Ghezzi
How it should be!!!
Each of the two artists also had a solo career.
I expect that if I am viewing the artist Wess sees his image of his and not that of the colleague he is performing with.
I've noticed that even the biography sometimes doesn't correspond to the artist you're listening to or viewing.
It seems strange to me that no one has noticed this problem.
But as I understand it, it seems that the biography of an artist is of interest to few.
I would like to thank you for the response because I usually don't get many answers when I ask something about the use of biographies.

Questions / Artist image display
« on: September 19, 2023, 04:03:26 PM »
Greetings

I have a problem with the artist image displaying.
For example: the Italian duo Wess & Dori Ghezzi. He visualizes Dori Ghezzi to me, instead I would like him to show an image of the duo.
In Edit sort value the first value is Dori Ghezzi, Wess and finally Wess & Dori Ghezzi. I thought this was the reason why when I play one of their songs it shows me Dori Ghezzi and I tried to change the order by putting the full name of the two first.
It's not possible to do that. Every time I save and reopen the editor it always comes back in alphabetical order.
However, sometimes he takes the first, sometimes the second and sometimes both.
Isn't there a way why it displays the singer you are viewing?

General Discussions / Re: The worst forum ever
« on: September 05, 2023, 10:50:06 AM »
Speaking as the sole moderator on this forum (aside from Steven who is the sole developer) I feel obligated to reply despite my desire not to.

The first order of business when looking for help on a forum is to SEARCH THE FORUM. Which clearly you did not do. Nor want to do. You want immediate answers without doing any of the heavy lifting. Which actually makes -you- the lazy one.

Yes, of course I can do the search for you. And post the links or replies, but why should I do it when you haven't even made the effort to.
But someone already did that for you today in two of the threads you didn't bother to search for. And posted a link to the search results.

Good luck with your membership on other forums.

End of discussion

I don't want to get into conflict!!
But you should consider that many users are not English speaking and, believe me, if you don't know the precise terms it is not easy to search in a forum as vast as this one.
I don't know the case of the OP who in any case was wrong to say certain sentences.
I use google translate to write on this forum, and also this post.
Many times I have opened requests but most of the time they have not been answered and I have had the doubt that they have not been understood, due to an inaccurate translation. When the translation takes place (English - Italian) in some cases it is not really clear, so I also think vice versa (Italian - English).
Let's hope what I wrote is clear!!!

Questions / Re: IF command

both fields are date types. If either field value doesnt parse as a valid year or date then the comparison wont work
So if I understand correctly the format for the comparison must be dd/mm/yyyy?
no you dont understand correctly. The value must be a valid year or a valid date

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you mean valid year!!!
Written like this, is "1980" not a valid year?

Anyway I fixed it: putting the field <Year (yyyy)> instead of <Year> everything works fine.

I saw that the field <Year (yyyy)> is of type number while <Original Year> is date but this is how it works.

Can't compare 1976-2000? But only 01/01/1976 - 01-01-2000!!!!

modify:
Effectively putting the format dd/mm/yyyy the comparison is performed.
But it doesn't make much sense. Most, I think, will just put the year.

Questions / IF command
« on: August 06, 2023, 11:04:51 AM »
hi,

I'm trying to make a simple comparison.

Code
$If(<Year>=<Original Year>,true-value,false-value)

But it doesn't work and it's always true or false depending on the comparison if it's the same or different.
Am I doing something wrong?

Questions / Re: Moving a large Music Folder
« on: July 03, 2023, 02:31:29 PM »
Try using file organizer.
Select all the songs you want to transfer.
Use File Organizer and in the first empty field write: C:\music and MB will do everything by itself. I used it to transfer files from one HD to another and in the end nothing changed at the library level, except the reference to the new HD (Example D:)
I hope I was clear!!!

They are saved either as tags within the music file itself, or only within the MusicBee database (Library) file, depending on what you chose to do in Preferences/Tags (1)/Custom Tags when you created them.

Thanks for the reply.
Is the database file MusicBeeLibrary.mbl?
In the preferences I chose to save in the MB database and in fact in that file written above the data is there but is not inserted again in the tags designed to contain them in the new installation.
Why?
Thank you

i had to transfer music bee to another pc. Tried to back up everything and everything seemed fine. Instead, I realized that the data relating to the custom tags were not recovered.
Where does music bee save this data?

MusicBee Wishlist / Start/end position only in playlists
« on: May 28, 2023, 09:28:48 AM »
I realized that trimming the beginning/ending songs isn't always useful.
For example: a song should be cut at the beginning, because it has a particular beginning, only in a playlist but with a single listening you would like to hear it in full.
It would be nice to have a choice beside the two start/end setting fields that says: only in playlists.
By flagging it, those cuts will only be active in the playlists, in other cases always.
