Portable Devices / Re: Wifi android device synching
« on: September 13, 2023, 08:10:16 PM »
So has anyone compiled, or can anyone compile a set of instructions for how to get syncthing working with Android and musicbee? Since the apk for the wifi sync above no long works (as I have posted about in other threads).

I'm reading through the forum and some people seem to have this figured out but it's confusing.

Oh, the error I'm having isn't the Sever Not Found error, it's that the app refuses to read any changes to files made in GMMP. So I can effectively only rate songs on desktop.

All I want is dual metadata sync for my curated song collection. Can't believe it's 2023 and this is still so difficult to have.

Shougun, have you tested if you can sync playlists with this setup? Also how long does the sync with syncthing take you? Thinking about using this since the wifi sync app is no longer working.

When I plug my device in, however, I noticed that there's suddenly a duplicate entry in Device > Preferences, and all settings within this entry are default. When I attempt to delete this entry while the device is connected I'm told I cannot, because the device is in use, so it's clear my device is now, for whatever reason, recognized as being different in some way.

For anyone who might try to troubleshoot this issue to get the app to work again, I also had this problem. Well, something similar. I was able to delete the extra device, but I did also notice that there was a duplicate device entry that hadn't existed before.

I bet this has something to do with why the app has broken.

I tried moving all of my files out of the subfolder of iTunes Media and just into the standard Music folder. Still can't get ratings or playcounts to update.

For whoever finds this thread, this app no longer works, at least not with GoneMad Player.

Okay, so I've been doing some tests. There's currently a weird bug in the app or something, or maybe in musicbee behavior, that caused a change that wasn't there before.

If you look at my other posts in this thread, you'll see I had my files on my computer in a subfolder called 'iTunes Media.' For some reason now, I have to have the music subfolder in Musicbee, in the device settings, read Music\* instead of Music\iTunes Media\*.

Before I had to have the file path on my computer and phone match and now it seems they specifically need to not be?

With Music\iTunes Media\*, when I sync, the app creates an additional folder so that on my phone the path becomes Music\iTunes Media\iTunes Media\[song folders]. I have no idea what is making the additional folder and why when it wasn't doing it before, but whoever is watching this thread, know this is an issue.

I haven't tested to see if changing this will make ratings sync again. That will be tomorrow.

So I don't know what's happening, but the sync is just not working again. I tried deleting everything, resyncing manually and then via wifi, checked and verified all my folders. It's broken.

It seems the first wifi sync after a manual sync will work, and then after that the ratings and playcounts will refuse to update on either end. This is using GoneMad for android.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Sorry for the super late reply. I never saw this, but am still having this problem. If anyone tries this, it doesn't work.

Portable Devices / New router; wifi sync no longer works
« on: December 11, 2022, 08:07:40 PM »
I'm getting an error message that states that MusicBee Sync can't connect to the server.

I'm trying to sync my Android device to Windows 10. This worked for me as recently as a couple days ago, but I had to go to the store and buy a new router for reasons.

There have been no changes/updates to my phone or PC in the meantime.

I logged into the new router and played with turning UPnP on and off. I turned the firewall on and off. I did a manual sync (fine) but wifi sync doesnt work.

I tried the old router and wifi sync worked, but in any case I can't keep using that one and I can't get the same model, either. (Please don't ask why, it's a long story, I just can't).

Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it?

I couldn't believe it when I saw that price increase! It's so sad, too. RocketPlayer was at least somewhat usable, if not an absurd hassle. Now it's just garbage.

In any case, I wish you luck on your road to the no itunes life!

I listen to a lot of Japanese music and use the lyrics to study. The google option through MusicBee doesn't always bring up some of the sites that I know are likely to have the song available in a copy paste format. It would be great if I could set MusicBee to default to searching the sites I like for this.

DUDEEEE THANK YOU SO MUCH

I'm so happy I could CRY

I used to suffer with Rocket Player and iTunes and I hated it. I haven't had an actual smooth two-way sync situation since the damn Zunes existed. I literally can't believe something as simple as syncing a local music collection's stats and data is so niche in friggin 2022.

With those small code changes and your help in this thread, it's finally successful! Thank you thank you thank you

One note to anyone reading this thread: I did a reinstall of the app before I did the small change above just to make extra sure. The songs I rated on my phone before I reinstalled the app didn't update on desktop, but once I had reinstalled it and told it what folders to watch, all of those songs went through (I literally tested a playlist one by one).

Just want to say thanks for all your patience and help so far, BoringName! I really appreciate it.

Storage Path: Pixel 4a\Internal shared storage\
(my phone is a Pixel 4a on Android 13)

Music Files: Music\*

As another clue, I just now tried this adding in the playcounts as a sync option, and this time it showed the five songs or so that I had updated the rating for and played through on my phone with an error message saying the file could not be found in musicbee and so the playcount was not updated. When I just do the ratings box checked, I get the success message, but nothing actually changes in musicbee.

The first time, I already had the music on my phone and computer so I thought maybe some folders weren't reading each other. So tonight, I deleted all of the music off of my phone and deleted the app. I wired synced my music from desktop (musicbee) to my phone. That worked and everything went through.

I rated a song in GoneMad Player.
Then, I reinstalled the sync app and gave it all permissions. When asked what folder to use, on the first test I just chose my Music folder.

I got the note that in synced successfully, but it did not, in fact, push any rating updates to MusicBee. I tried a few times.
I believe the app syncs ratings and play counts based on what has changed since the last sync. It gets this info from GoneMad. It doesn't compare every song on your PC with every song on your phone for every sync. Because you changed the rating while the app wasn't installed it might not have flagged the song as having the ratings changed.

So give this a shot.
Leave all the Music on the phone.
Uninstall the Music Bee app.
Re-Install the Music Bee app and Select the "Music" folder you did initially.
Run a Sync - If that works successfully keep going with these steps otherwise reply here it didn't work.
Change a rating of a song in GoneMad. Also play a different song all the way through.
Run another sync
Check MusicBee on your PC to see if the rating and play counts updated on the 2 songs.

edit: Don't worry about that 2 way setting that is greyed out. That is a legacy setting that isn't used anymore. The wifi app will still sync play counts and ratings with that setting unchecked.
