Questions / Musicbee won't open!?!
« on: April 02, 2022, 10:33:04 PM »
I clicked on an mp3 file today and Musicbee is giving me this message - "A library needs to be selected to continue". There's an existing folder but Last Accessed column says "not found". I try to Locate or Create New but there is no file (.mbl ?) file anywhere.

Can't open the app from the Start menu either. What the hell? It worked recently.

I selected selected 'add to inbox' when doing a scan of recently added music but don't see where the inbox is.

Questions / Re: Tag Hierarchy suddenly stopped working
« on: April 07, 2021, 03:45:40 AM »
The hierarchy panel will display results depending on any preceding filtering.
Could it be that your opening tab/node has some filtering in place? And that the resulting albums/songs do not contain genre tags as known in MusicBee's genre list?

Yeah, maybe it's something like that. It's confusing but I'll try to mess around with the settings. Thanks.

Questions / Tag Hierarchy suddenly stopped working
« on: April 06, 2021, 03:20:28 AM »
Clicking on a genre no longer displays any albums. Also, it takes some effort to get the genres to show up. Often just shows the word  'All' and nothing else. If I go back to the Music tab and reset search and browser filters then go back to the Tag Hierarchy tab the entries show up. This is a new issue, it worked great the last time I used MusicBee (about two days ago). Nothing has changed as far as I know.

I'm using version 3.4.7749 on Windows 10.

FWIW I restarted both the program and my computer to see if the fixed the issue, but sadly no.

If this is a bug I'll repost it on the Bugs forum. If this is my lack of knowledge maybe someone can give me some advice on getting it working again. It's a nice feature when it was working.

Edit: just upgraded to 3.4.7764 and it didn't solve the issue.

Questions / Re: Is it possible to set 'Group By' for different views?
« on: March 26, 2021, 03:15:27 AM »
an alternative solution might be having always 2 tabs at the top

Thanks Jonap, that's actually a great solution. Preferable even. I had no idea that was possible. It's funny, I've used MusicBee for years but only recently started messing with the customizations and am realizing how robust and awesome it is.

Questions / Re: I lost the dropdown menu for the left panel!

Right-click somewhere in the red circle and select 'Show header menu'?

Doh! Thanks!  I guess I accidently clicked 'hide header menu' - an option I didn't realize existed!

We've both earned our forum labels! Newbie and Hero  ;)

Questions / I lost the dropdown menu for the left panel!

I don't know if I messed up some setting or if this is a bug, but I can't figure out how to get the dropdown back. Any advice?

Questions / Is it possible to set 'Group By' for different views?
« on: March 23, 2021, 04:12:13 AM »
(edited question so that it hopefully makes more sense)

I would like to have 'group by' change automatically for a given selection in the thumbnail browser (without having to do a two step process each time I change views). Mostly I want to group Genres by Genre Category and everything else by First Letter.

I tried creating a virtual tag using an 'if' statement, but don't actually know if (or how) it's possible to detect the selection type.

Awesome! Thanks so much, that worked great. I had looked for a hot key but had no idea what that was called.

Selecting an Artist in the thumbnail browser loads their albums in the main panel. In order to get back to all artists & albums you have to scroll back up to All Artists in the thumbnail browser. Are there settings that would make this less cumbersome? It would be great if All Artists stayed pinned to the top of the left panel but a keyboard shortcut would work too.
