Mr Editor.

I am reading and learning as I go. I'm not expecting miracles, just a little assistance.

There's a word for a brittle individual like you.

****

Yours sincerely,

Etc, etc.

Hi,

Hoping some can help me on the forum. From the off, I'm not tech-savvy and have for many years used
an iTunes player. Have come to MusicBee on recommendation and whilst its great software I am struggling to
make sense of a number of issues relating to tagging, storage and the fact my music collection seems to
play but in the 'Playlist' section every track has a black exclamation mark next to it, and
when hovering a mouse over it, I'm informed that the track(s) are missing. Each individual track plays
but I have to click on the following track for the album to continue. Clearly, I'm doing
something seriously wrong.

I am utterly confused, and have in honesty received a number of brusque, impatient, bordering on tech-arrogant
replies to previous questions and enquiries for help.

Guys, I just want to make sense of what I am doing. Not get treated like a 'thick school child' who can't do
his maths homework.

In total I have uploaded 198, 715 files, some 1787.6GB from one WD book and four Toshiba separate hard drives.

I am also getting the return of unwanted duplicate albums, and previously deleted/removed files, so a brief rundown as
to how I prevent this from happening each time I boot up MusicBee would be great, and how I can successfully deal
with the foreboding black exclamation marks.

many thanks,

Best wishes,

Screenthemes

I also incorrectly informed you of the file amount on my MusicBee player;

In total I have uploaded 198, 715 files, some 1787.6GB.

I have;

(1) Tick "on startup check for updated or missing files" option under Preferences> Library
(2) Add your music files folder to the monitored folders setting under Preferences> Library
(3) Run Tools> Advanced> Rescan All Files command to update database

This has got rid of the exclamation marks and left me with a great deal of Reconstruction work, but slowly
but surely, I think I'm getting there.

I'm very impressed with MusicBee, it's far superior to iTunes in every way, I just need to get a handle on
the software.

Thank you for your kind assistance, and the condescending, blunt tone. Are you by chance, Welsh?
If so, that would explain a great deal.
I have, as instructed, hovered over the exclamation marks in the 'Playlist' section (!)
According to MusicBee every bastard track is missing.
Brilliant.
Have a good evening (or day)

Thank you. Got it. I'll plough through the files in the separate hard drives and delete.

I'm noting that since reopening MusicBee many of the files hve deleted and have not re-appeared.

Whilst I have you online, can I ask;

Have noted since playing around with the software and not understanding what the hell I am doing that every
single track in the 'Playlists' section has a Black exclamation mark next to the track. I have no idea how it got there.
No idea how to remove it. Can you help please?

I've note that when booting up MusicBee, the player takes an age to load up all the artwork and be 'play-ready'.

Perhaps taking two-three minutes to load all artwork.

I currently have 934 files uploaded, some 12.2 GB.

Is this a normal/average time to be waiting?

Thanks

Yes, I was.

My friend, I am simply trying to understand how to use the software. I'm not being rude or difficult.
I'm not ignoring any advice and welcome anything that will help me use MusicBee at its very best.

At the moment, I am totally confused as to what I am doing wrong.

Again, I am very grateful to you for all your kind assistance.

Best wishes

Good morning Psychoadept,

Thanks for the kind reply. You are spot on, I did say that. I'm getting 'remove rather than 'delete' in the commands/choice
when I try and delete the album/file and when I boot up my music PC, bring up the player the files have returned and require deleting
again. I have a big music collect, one WD Book and four, soon to five separate Toshiba hard-drives - mostly film music, but much
more stuff too. Its a lot of files to reapply the artwork for and remove either duplicate MP3 files or tracks.
(The other great thing about the player is that it immediately excepts FLAC files and doesn't need them to be brought
down to MP/ACC  like iTunes does - that's a seriously good result!)

I'm really pleased with the MusicBee player. Its excellent. Yes, its taking a while to get use to, and I'm not PC savvy as some are, so some of the finer
points of the players great capabilities are passing me by at the moment.

(I'm struggling to - A). Find a way to turn of the delete notification that appears each time I successful remove something, and

B). I seem to have a problem with some files when applying artwork and a notification that says Retry or Cancel appears and constantly flashes up until
it has read each track in the file that refuses the artwork. That ones a real mystery to me, and I've no idea how to deal with that one yet.

Thanks again for your help. It's greatly appreciated.

Cheers

And ticking the check boxes didn't work in the monitored section. Reopened MusicBee and had a message saying a number of files would be removed.

Non of which were duplicates or the files I wanted removing and not to re-import. "ARGHHHH!!!"

Time to switch off the PC and pour a cold beer. Either that or I kick the PC monitor screen in.

Have a good evening and thanks for your help.

Cheers.

Right, have ticked the 'Monitored' check boxes for all the separate hard drives. Hoping this no means when I reopen MusicBee the deleted files will no
longer re-import.

As we say here in England ... "In for a penny, in for a pound"

In other words, try anything and hope it works.

Thanks again.

I understand there are the exclude and Choose Folders check boxes which in-turn lead to my internal hard drives and where my music
is kept (there are seven separate hard drives and a massive amount of music) I know I'm not uber-computer savvy, and apologise
for not getting exactly your instructions, however, all I'm wanting to do is stop the music files from re-importing each time MusicBee
opens.

Finding the many files I have already deleted is going to be a real long job, searching through seven separate hard drives, locating the individual
files, especially when I have deleted the bloody things from my library more than half a dozen times. Excuse my frustration.
I'm very grateful for your help, even if I am being thick!

Hi, Sorry, I was away from my PC for a while and not ignoring the questions. I can see everything that you have photo-shopped above.

As I am looking;

Scan on start-up box is ticked/filled in.
Add to library  box is ticked/filled in.

What I am not understanding is;
How I can prevent the files that re-appear after deletion and which are reinstated when I re-open MusicBee
And actually what I need to do to 'Monitor the folder' - I'm struggling to find where I access that element
to prevent the deleted files being re-imported.
Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for helping me out with this.

Sadly I cannot find the  element in the library to monitor folders.

I have followed your instructions - Edit->Edit Preferences->Library, but cannot find the check box to ensure that MusicBee does not re-import the files I have
previously deleted.

Finding the player great to use, just trying to get use to the finer points. Sorry to be a pain.

Thanks
