Plugins / Re: 3DBee (Cover Flow) Plugin
« on: May 26, 2023, 12:45:03 PM »
Congrats on getting this into Musicbee. It looks great already.

My initial thought is that there should be a standard plug-in install. The manual method feels like unnecessary faffing about.

I hope there is a way to add 3DBee as a valid MB file selector for the main panel. The core part of the MB layout ("main panel > files" in the MB layout manager) can not be removed to clean up the UI, but you can select a different way to show stuff (currently Artwork, Album Art, Jukebox, Track Details). Can 3DBee become a fifth option here for ease of use?

Found a bug immediately. 3DBee breaks non-violently when hidden and shown again in MB. I have added it to the main panel, and to replace my regular album art selection, I dragged the splitter all the way to completely hide the "files" element, effectively only seeing "3dbee". However, if I hide 3DBee by dragging the splitter all the way the other way (show only), then drag back to show 3DBee again, there is no image in 3DBee any more -- all black. Only restarting MB fixes this.

One usability suggestion: It should be possible to choose what clicking in the cover flow outside of the centre cover does. Click+drag is OK as a default scrolling method, but I see another use case: Click to select a specific partially visible cover. This would work well in conjunction with mouse scrolling as the cover scroll method.

Questions / Re: EQ per album not working
« on: December 08, 2020, 08:19:47 PM »
So to auto-enable EQ for, say 5 out of 500 albums, I have to enable EQ processing (flat, but still a signal chain effect) for the rest? Thanks for the clarification.

Here's the problem: There is no option "EQ based on file settings". There is one named "Auto-Select by Genre", which does not sound at all like what I was looking for. Is that what I should use?

No. 99% of my albums need no EQ.

Questions / EQ per album not working

I am definitely missing something. I made EQ presets for a few albums, changed the "Equaliser preset" setting in the tag editor, saved that, and... nothing. How do I actually enable those specific EQ adjustments?

thats right - MB uses window controls and colours as the basis for the skin, but there is some variation
Well, clearly the "Windows Theme" skin doesn't work properly/ignores the Windows settings in some UI elements. I have no yellow selected anywhere in my Windows theme, but I see this in MB (RC2):

That seems to have solved the issue. Thank you for your help. :)

I tried sending via PM, but I guess those are blocked.

I think the file blocking issue is some edge case. The only better isolation I found is that it affects files with embedded album art. Some (but not all) of those become undeletable after you add them to the now playing list in MB. Files without album art in them behave as expected -- can be deleted as long as they are not currently being played.

for point 1, i have no idea what that would be as MB doesnt maintain any lock on files just because they are added to the now playing list. Of course while a specific file is playing there is a read lock on the file, which should be released when playback has completed.
What steps did you do to make you think MB had a lock on the files?
I can't seem to reproduce it right after starting MB. As long as playback is stopped, file deletion works fine. However, I know it happened multiple times after MB was open for many hours, with multiple albums played through. I'll post again if I can find a specific way to show this issue.

edit:
actually the ASIO mode is not releasing the device when stop is clicked. Thats addressed for the next v3 update. It doesnt change anything about the now playing list.

unzip into the folder MB is installed.
Good to know. Thanks. :)

Edit: The patched version does indeed relinquish the ASIO hook, but it hangs when using ASIO. It locks up into silence/non-responding when one song ends, and another is supposed to start.

MB 3.0 RC1, Windows 7 x64 Pro

Stopping playback should make MB free all files and relinquish all sound API control. It is too aggressive with its OS hooks.

1. Files added to Playing Now in MB remain open "forever". You can not manually delete files that were added to Playing Now in MB. Stopping playback and even removing those files from Playing Now does not help. Library and non-library files are affected. The only way to regain control over such files is to close MB.

2. MB assumes total and indefinite control of the ASIO API when it is selected as the playback method. Pausing or stopping playback has no effect on this. This makes ASIO virtually useless for any mixed PC use. Doing things like watching a video or playing a game while music is stopped require closing MB or changing the playback method.

When using the "dead links" filter, removed links are not removed from the filter unless you reopen it.  F5 doesn't help.
I am using Windows Theme. And that is precisely my point. It uses my Windows colours everywhere else, except for the wave bar. Why would that be?

The wavebar is now yellow when my entire Windows theme is green/gray. Shouldn't it use one of the system colours?

Bug Reports / Re: Minor Niggle with 3.0 and Minimising
« on: March 26, 2016, 06:45:35 PM »
It works sometimes. MB for some reason tries to hide (or does not display properly) the default Windows window actions menu. It changes depending on focus.

Specifically (latest beta, Windows 7 Pro x64): I have a mouse macro set up to minimize apps (Alt+Space followed by M) which works anywhere but sometimes in MB.  If focus is in the track list or on the entire MB window, this shortcut works fine. If focus is inside the album list, the shortcut to minimize the window breaks. It brings up the menu, but that menu is messed up - has no working keyboard shortcuts for the macro to finish.

The default app actions window brought up by Alt+Space is different depending on where focus happens to be in MB. This is why minimizing MB using a macro sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't work. You can test it by clicking around different MB areas, then pressing Alt+Space to bring up the window menu.

Edit: This bug is fixed in 3.0 RC1. The new layout displays the same window menu anywhere (at least as far as I was able to try), so macros minimize MB reliably every time.
