This is a very easy change so I have included it in the next v3.4 alpha update
Thank you!! I really appreciate it :)

MusicBee Wishlist / Option to resample all audio to 44.1khz
« on: June 15, 2020, 03:27:43 AM »
Yes I know, this sounds stupid, but let me explain.

I use ASIO to enjoy music in the background while I record whatever it is that I do on my computer. This way, the system audio I'm recording is not intruded by any music. I also just use ASIO in general with my computer, since my audio interface that I run all of my audio through works best with it. The problem is that any immediate change in sample rate completely wrecks my audio on the computer and all the programs that I'm running.

First I get this error

Then I hear a click and the music stops playing. All of my system audio is extremely distorted and the pitch of everything changes to compensate the difference in sample rate (if I'm in a call and a 96khz audio file starts playing, everyone's voices go really high pitched and my voice goes super low pitched on their end). The only way to fix this glitch when it happens is to close out of musicbee, reopen it, click a 44.1khz song, see the same "Unable to start playback" error again, reboot musicbee again, and play a 44.1khz file again. Then and only then will the audio fix itself. It happens regularly when I accidentally play a higher sample rate song through ASIO.

This is definitely not MusicBee's fault, but there is sort of a way to currently fix the issue with MusicBee.

In the options I'm able to resample my audio to 48KHz, 96KHz, or 192KHz, but absent is a 44.1KHz option.

I assume it's because most people would find it pointless to resample higher rate music down to 44.1KHz, but the functionality is already available in the software.

Reading an old forum post here from 2014, I found that enabling crossfade will force the software into 44.1KHz mode, because it needs a consistent sample rate to be able to fade between tracks. I enabled it and tried to set the crossfade as low as possible which is 0.1 seconds. It seems to work fine for the most part, but songs that were already intended to transition seamlessly now have short surges in volume because, well, they're being crossfaded.

Maybe there is a better way around this highly specific issue I'm having, but I think it would be worth having as an option if it's kind of already there. Thanks for your consideration!

Also if we are talking about the Album Covers view then untick "fit to panel" in the view preferences
This will still give the best results, but for the next v3.4 update i have upgraded the interpolation algorithm for cached artwork

Oh sick! I really appreciate that, and I especially appreciate that you replied nearly two years later to let me know about this. I seriously appreciate your work. I've used MusicBee probably almost every day for four years.

(Also now that I'm actually an adult I am able to donate so there's that)

this fixes the issue:
https://getmusicbee.com/patches/MusicBee33_Patched.zip

unzip and replace the existing musicbee files

Thank you! I've been out of town so sorry for the lack of replies. I'm excited to install the fix!

Questions / Every album is in the correct order except one artist?
« on: May 02, 2019, 04:43:55 AM »
I can't seem to figure this one out. I've always sorted my music as the following:
Album Artist > Year (Descending) > Album

I noticed today that every artist has the correct order on the albums, except Panic! at the Disco, which has a seemingly random order? My bonus tracks that are labeled disc 2 are also separated for some reason. I've checked over everything and retagged it all with both MusicBee and mp3tag with no luck. I recently updated the other day for the first time in months, but didn't notice this at that point. I know I can define custom sorting for specific artists, but I don't know if that's exactly a proper fix here.

Here's an example of CORRECT sorting

Here's a long string that shows the order of all my Panic albums. I cannot figure out what may be causing this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Less compressed artwork previews as an option
« on: September 07, 2018, 09:30:42 AM »
+1 for the option.  You made me dig out my Minor Threat "Complete Discography" again :)
I heard that Minor Threat is an awesome band! I haven't heard them yet though.

I'm not really sure what the OP is complaining about. Maybe what you need is just a little patience.
If you resize artwork, MB shows cached image first (that's why it looks terrible for a while when you have enlarged artwork size), and then read the artwork for each file/album and replace the cache image with a resized artwork image one by one. If you resize artwork size/column again, the same thing happens.
What I'm "complaining" about (asking about) is why the artwork is so heavily compressed unless I raise it to be a certain size. It decompresses in increments based on the size of the artwork, but it's always a size much larger or smaller than I want. Thanks a ton for the recommendation on how to bypass this issue though. Although I have plenty of patience, I don't know if I have enough to fix 500 albums worth of artwork + CD singles. Maybe it's just one of those things I can spend a few mins a day doing for a few weeks, and hope that they won't all eventually be replaced automatically.

Also if we are talking about the Album Covers view then untick "fit to panel" in the view preferences
I think I might be dumb, I've looked everywhere and still haven't seen it.

Also this is the layout of my MusicBee right now. I've definitely replaced the artwork several times. They still look very compressed and ugly. I don't think this was an issue about a year ago in a previous version, but I'm not sure. Either ways, it would be nice to have an option for something like this like "display full resolution artwork"

MusicBee Wishlist / Less compressed artwork previews as an option
« on: September 05, 2018, 05:00:07 AM »
One thing (pretty much the only thing) that's been bothering me with music bee as of lately is how the album artwork is compressed so badly in it's small preview window. It's not as bad as Windows Media Player was, but this is one of the main reasons why I moved to Music Bee. The compression artifacts of the album artwork is super noticeable, especially at the size I enjoy mine to be. I know that the compression/resolution will change within a range of resolution.

This is bigger than I usually have it, but it's made bigger so it's easier to tell.

When I drag the artwork to be one pixel larger, it will bump up to the next step in resolution.

Where I usually have it is nowhere near it's next step, and suffers from bad compression artifacts. I know it's a funny thing to complain about, but it's just one of those small things that bothers me at times, especially because I spend a while making sure I always get the best quality album artwork.
Albums with a lot of RED color suffer the worst from this.
Here's an album by Fugazi, with the artwork size right where I like it most, but as you can see it looks terribly compressed in the text. The actual artwork assigned looks MUCH better than this, and it clears up if I make it massive.

Meanwhile, this is how it should look (original image, shrunk to 500x500px)

Sorry for the long post. I didn't know if this belongs in help, or wishlist, but I figured this was an intentional feature of MusicBee. I can understand why though, save space and have better performance. I just wish there were options to opt for better quality artwork or even a little .ini or .cfg fix I could make for this! Thanks a ton for reading. Music Bee is easily my favorite media player ever.
