I give up - I will not waste my time trying to help others here if all you want to do is fight and insult.  I'm out.

It may well be Firefox.  But the fact is, these recent slowdowns are NEW. and that makes the information of possible interest to folks in this thread who may be also seeing recent slowdowns, whether it is Firefox, MB, W10, or something else.  My issue may or may not be related to what is causing his issue.   If the OP does not use Firefox, then obviously that cannot be his problem.  I provided information so other folks could look for similarities.

I have been using Firefox the same way for many years, so SOMETHING on the computer has changed, causing the recent slowdowns.  These only started within the last 10 days or so (AFAIR).  I am running Firefox 87.0, and I have not looked to see if there was any recent Firefox update on my computers, but that is certainly possible.

Just a comment - hope it doesn't throw off this thread, but thought it might provide another data point.

In the past few weeks, I have been experiencing numerous computer slowdowns on TWO computers that I often use at the same time.  I have not traced it to anything specific yet, but MB and Firefox are two apps running that were common to all occurrences.  I MAY have had Audacity running during each slowdown, but I do not think so.  Just yesterday, I had a major slowdown, so bad that I was contemplating a forced restart in the middle of my work.  But it eventually cleared about 5-10 minutes AFTER I shut down Firefox.  During that time, What's My Computer Doing showed that there were still Firefox tasks taking system time and I/O.  I always have many tabs open in Firefox on both of these computers.

Other than recent updates for MB, the new 3.0 version of Audacity, and any automatic W10 and Firefox updates, nothing else has changed on these two computers recently.  These slowdowns have been frequent and very noticeable, enough that I have been rebooting daily and trying to watch for any indications of cause.  I know I have seen a new splash screen on W10, along with initial prompts to set up some crap settings i do not want, so I have been suspecting that this problem might be from Micro$oft.

I have doubts that it is being caused by MB, since the problem affects the entire computer, all open windows, even when I am not actually do anything with MB other than having it open.

Questions / Library Preferences - Check for Updated Files?
« on: March 27, 2021, 07:42:30 PM »
On the Library Preferences screen, there are two different options available for what sounds like essentially the same thing:

Under music library, there is a check box to check for updated or missing files on startup, and right below that, under monitored folders, there is an option to scan on startup only, and then a place where you can specify file locations.

What is the difference between these two options?  If I specify the drive location for my music files under monitored folders, doesn't this accomplish the same thing as the first check box?  Or is there a reason I might want to use both options?

Questions / Re: MusicBee Installation Files Location

Thank you sveakul..  I totally agree that what is in the current Wiki is still extremely helpful, and I do not mean to denigrate any of the previous contributors.

I have never contributed to or edited any Wiki before, so I will be doing more research and asking more questions before I attempt that.  I am the type of person who wants to be as absolutely certain as I can that anything I am going to publish is correct, so I do not like making assumptions, even if they seem logical.  I do not mind being responsible for my own mistakes, but I hate causing other people to make them.

Yes, that is quite simple, and a roundabout way of actually answering my question.
A one line answer that answered your question doesn't seem roundabout to me.
While I greatly appreciate your responses, and I am somewhat reluctant to continue this discussion in the forum, I will try and explain what I have apparently failed to clearly state:

Your response was "roundabout" specifically because you did not directly answer EITHER of the two clear questions I posed.  Instead of that, you just restated a fact about Windows that I had already stated.  This left me to infer (or guess, assume) that:
1.  The documentation was simply wrong (THAT would have been a direct answer).  and
2.  No, there are not two different versions of MB available - both a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version, like some other software.  This was actually the more important question (which you totally did NOT answer), since the possibility could exist that I and other users are inadvertently using a less-optimized software release than might otherwise be available to us.  I can only assume that your simple one line response ignored this because you felt it was best to let us assume that you actually know the answer, but it was not worth your time to clarify the point.

I am willing to accept that assumption; because; I further assume that if it is wrong, someone else will see it and add the necessary clarification.  I apologize if I was just too dense to accept that without further comment.

Yes, that is quite simple, and a roundabout way of actually answering my question.  Your answer is exactly what i said in my original post.  The "issue" I was experiencing (and that i thought I took great pains to point out) is simply incorrect documentation.  Here is the actual question I asked:

"So what are the real facts?  Is this just a problem of poor and/or outdated documentation, or are there actually two versions of MB floating around (32-bit and 64-bit)?"

But thank you for clarifying that this IS simply poor documentation.  If I actually do decide to start updating the old MusicBee Wiki, I will begin with that correction.

Questions / Re: Question about backups
« on: March 27, 2021, 05:55:07 PM »
If all your backups are on your local network, you could set MusicBee to sync them as virtual devices. The first time it will copy everything, but after that it will only copy the new or updated files. And if you set it to sync when connected, it will update automatically whenever you start MusicBee.
Just curious here, but why did you suggest that the user consider syncing to a virtual device instead of just using the Library backup function?

I have always done my backups outside of MB, but your reply got me thinking about this as a possible option to replace those normal backups. In my research, the information I found on the MusicBee Wiki says that the built-in backup function works exactly like a normal sync, so why would a virtual device be a better choice (unless the user needs to make the backup on the same drive)?

Questions / MusicBee Installation Files Location
« on: March 27, 2021, 05:47:18 PM »
It seems as though the MusicBee Wiki is significantly outdated (at least everything I look up there seems to be).  But that is not really the subject of this question - just noting that I have tried to research the information and not been too successful.   I am actually contemplating starting to update the Wiki for the things I know, but that, too, is not the subject at hand.

What I have found in the Wiki, and in several other references to patches, updates, etc., all says that the MB installation files are in the Windows "c:\Program Files" folder, but on ALL of my computers where I have installed MB (all running Windows 10, 64 bit), the files are located in the "Program Files (x86)" folder.  This difference in expected location would seem to be a significant variation since the (x86) folder is specifically for 32-bit programs installed on 64-bit versions of Windows.  All of my installations have been done with the full downloads from this site, along with updates from the Latest Versions forum.

So what are the real facts?  Is this just a problem of poor and/or outdated documentation, or are there actually two versions of MB floating around (32-bit and 64-bit)?

Questions / Where to Keep Lyrics?
« on: March 21, 2021, 02:34:42 PM »
Just looking for opinions here.  Are there any particular pros or cons to storing lyrics embedded in the music file vs. as an external .txt file?  Since both of these options are available on the Tags (1) preferences, it would seem to be just as simple either way.  I can think of two possible negatives to embed them in the music file -
1.  adding or changing lyrics requires the entire music file to have a new backup, and
2.  no simple way to access those lyrics outside of MusicBee.

Anything else i should consider before making my choice?

And one other related question:  MB Preferences only offers embedded or .txt file for this, but on the sync screen, there is an option for saving lyrics in an .lrc file.  Why?

In the house, I mostly use TuneBlade to wirelessly connect my computer over my LAN to a $50 wireless receiver at my amp (NOT garbage Bluetooth).  This sends all sound from the computer over my stereo.

Alternatively, if I do not want to mess with the computer at all, I use HiFi Cast on my phone to stream the same music files from the DLNA server on my NAS.  HiFi Cast interfaces with the same wireless receiver that TuneBlade uses.

And of course there is always the option to sync files directly to any portable device or memory stick.  I use an auto-playlist to sync EVERYTHING in my library rated 3* or higher to a USB stick for use in my car.  I can also do the same sync to put it all on my phone.

Plugins / Re: LyricsReloaded (Updated)
« on: March 21, 2021, 12:45:45 PM »
First, I want to thank frakz for taking the lead in keeping this great plugin available to all of us.  Finding correct lyrics can really be a chore sometimes, and this helps a lot.

I do want to comment that the Search Next Provider function for lyrics in MB ONLY works if there are no saved lyrics for a track.  Similarly, if you have options set to automatically save lyrics or use Auto-Tag to update lyrics, then you will ONLY ever see lyrics from the first provider in your list that has lyrics for the track in question, since MB will automatically save the first lyrics it finds, and then it stops looking.  Furthermore, Auto-Tag>Update lyrics from web may find and save lyrics from a source that never shows up if you use Search Next Provider to check each one on your list.  I do not know why that is the case, but I have seen it happen.

It is kind of a drag that there is no way to have MB search for new lyrics without first having to delete any saved ones you have, but I guess that is an issue with the core MB code and not this plugin.

And now just adding a comment on something strange I have encountered:
(not asking for anything, just adding the information here in case it helps someone else understand if they also see it.

I was doing a lot of repetitive testing on one song where several sites had totally wrong lyrics, but GENIUS alone had the correct ones.  I repeated the Search Next Provider function many, many times over a couple of days (getting consistent results each time).  Suddenly, for the same track I had been testing, the returned lyrics totally changed.  CHARTLYRICS, which had been showing  a completely wrong set of lyrics, began returning a totally different wrong set of lyrics.  At the same time, GENIUS suddenly stopped returning any lyrics for that song at all.  I went direct to the GENIUS site and verified the lyrics for that song were still there, so I have no idea why this plugin no longer finds them.  I suspected maybe so many repeats of the lookup I was doing might have triggered something that stopped GENIUS from responding to queries from my address, but that is not the case; I still get lyrics from GENIUS for other tracks on the same album I was testing.

So finding correct lyrics for many songs is still a tedious process, but this plugin does help.  I never used to pay any attention to the lyrics automatically displayed by MB, but now I try to watch them to see if they are correct.  I am now making it a point to save the correct lyrics (when I find them), since it seems that you just cannot trust finding them again tomorrow from the same location!

Please confirm for me that "search next provider" -only- works if/when "auto-retrieve missing lyrics for the playing track" is enabled in Tags (2) > auto-tagging. And not when obtaining lyrics via right-click > Auto-tag by track > Update missing lyrics.
I am not quite sure what you are asking, but I'll try.

ALL of my testing so far has been with the "auto-retrieve missing lyrics for the playing track" is enabled in Tags (2) > auto-tagging.  I just UN-checked that, and the Search Next Provider seems to still work exactly the same.

When obtaining lyrics via right-click > Auto-tag by track > Update missing lyrics, that ONLY works if no lyrics are currently embedded for the track, and then it finds and embeds the first lyrics only.  Any further attempt to "right-click > Auto-tag by track > Update missing lyrics" does nothing because the track already has lyrics.  Search Next Provider is never available for auto-tag by track.

But to confuse things even further, doing Auto-Tag>Update Lyrics From Web in the Edit screen finds totally different lyrics than ANY that are found from Search Next Provider! (at least for my test track shown in posts above).  And Auto-Tag from the edit screen overwrites any currently existing embedded lyrics.

I guess I just got "lucky" that I happened to test with a specific track which seems to have a lot of screwed-up lyrics or track ID info out there on different sites; otherwise, none of this would have been very obvious.  For It's Hot Tonight by Alice Cooper (track 1 on Lace and Whisky). ChartLyrics is just wrong, and Genius WAS right, but stopped working just now while I was doing more testing - now if finds nothing from Genius).  And the strange lyrics I saw from Auto-Tag are now also coming from ChartLyrics, replacing the original wrong lyrics that sight was providing.  I have no clue at all what is going on.

Cool - Thanx Steven!  You're great, and I really love MusicBee.

(Confirmed:  The patch file for 7749 fixed this bug for me.)

Questions / Re: Streaming from DLNA Server
« on: March 19, 2021, 03:37:25 PM »
My entire music library is on a shared NAS server, and MB works flawlessly with it from multiple computers.  I can identify the library files either by NASname and file path, or simply by mapping a network drive letter - I have found the latter to be the easiest, and all of my computers have a mapped T:\music drive which MB scans on each startup.  This same NAS also has its own native DLNA server for use with HiFi Cast, my TV, and other devices.

I also have one computer that maintains its own full version of all the library files (not sharing the NAS), and there is absolutely no difference in any performance or functionality for MB on any of my computers.
