Questions / Re: Tips for managing huge libraries?
« on: February 05, 2022, 09:08:47 AM »
its a very long time ago i did tests with a dummy library of 600,000 tracks and I recall the main slowness was the sorting of tracks when loading the panel. It took around 30 seconds. So that was with old hardware and MB has been improved quite a bit since then. If thats what you are referring to by slowness then the disc drive wont make much difference as the database is loaded in memory. I guess faster CPUs could make a difference.
If its the initial loading of the library panel, you could look at using filters to reduce the number of tracks loaded

Yep. That's pretty much what I'm experiencing. I think it might be my CPU that's the bottleneck. I'll probably go back to splitting up my libraries like I used to do.

Running version 3.4.8033 P
It's a portable installation.

My PC specs: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x, 32 GB Ram

Strangely when I wrote that at the top of page 11 it felt OK to use (Edit: I did have 3 separate installs and libraries for this, so that would explain how it was still quite fast). I've added around 30K tracks since then and aorund 7500 albums.

The portable installation is on a M2 SSD while the music library is on a standard 7200rpm 8TB harddisk (internal).

Do you think I need a PC upgrade? What's recommended for libraries such as mine?

Hi,

I'm struggling currently with a massive library (51K albums, 757K tracks). It's really slow to use. I am currently using filters to split up the library a bit, but sometimes I want to go to the main library and it's too slow and I get frustrated.

What is everyone else with a library similar as mine doing? Is there any way to speed things up?

Questions / Sorting Album Artist by number of albums
« on: September 26, 2021, 01:36:01 PM »
I am trying to find out what artists have the most albums in my collection, but I'm struggling to find out how I can do that within MusicBee. Any ideas?

Questions / Re: More ways to separate albums?

Update: I found a solution.

Preferences -> Sorting/Grouping
In the Grouping section, you can define what fields an album will be using. You can also choose to separate based on folders.

Awesome :)

Questions / More ways to separate albums?
« on: August 22, 2021, 08:42:00 AM »
In my Library, I have several versions of certain albums, but the problem is that if they have same Album Artist and Album Name, they look like they are merged in Music Bee. For example I have Eraser by Alan Silvestri, one from Atlantic Records (https://www.discogs.com/Alan-Silvestri-Eraser-Motion-Picture-Score/release/5545389) and one from La-La Land Records (https://www.discogs.com/Alan-Silvestri-Eraser-Music-From-The-Motion-Picture-Soundtrack/release/3531230).

The way I could do it is change the Album name of one of them, but for my own OCD I need them to be clean and just have thew actual Album Name. In the Customize Panel I am showing Album Name, Album Artist and Publisher on each album so I know which is which. For the albums in question (The two merged Eraser by Atlantic and La-La Land Records), it shows up as Atlantic Records.

Is this the way MusicBee works? Is there no way to separate albums based on Publisher for example?

Here's how it looks:

click 'define new tags...' below list of custom tags.

That did the trick. Thanks! :)

Yeah, this is actually pretty easy. Just create new tags (under Define New Tags) with whatever comes after the TXXX/ part, and then configure your custom tags with those fields. Check the wiki for more info.

I strongly advise making backups first just in case something doesn't go as expected.

Hmm yes that was the first place I looked, but it seems like I can only choose predefined tags in the dropdown menu and not write my own. I'm talking about the "Save To Music File As Tag" option.

Questions / Converting Custom Tags to MusicBee

So I have a few custom tags that I can look up in Tag Inspector that I want to be able to use in MusicBee, specifically the #Helium Custom Field tags:

Is there a way to use Custom Tags to get it to MusicBee?

Bug Reports / Re: Rating bug

Solution discovered: In Preferences-> Tags (1), there's an option called "Auto calculate Album Ratings". I checked that, and I checked "Exclude Zero Rated Tracks". Then I changed views from Rating to Album Rating. Perhaps that's what you meant all along :)

I was going to say :) Can't use Album rating since I don't set it on album. I have rated all tracks from around 5000 albums in Helium Music manager and those ratings show in MusicBee. In music library applications, I simply let the app generate an average for me. I'm sure this is the way MusicBee is supposed to work as well. Otherwise, there's no need to have Rating visible in the views.

There's a strange thing going on with ratings.

I have a view set up with Title - Album Artist - Genre - Ratings, and the Ratings only cares what I rate the first track. An example:

So if I don't give rating to the first track, but rates everything else, MusicBee shows the album with 0 stars.

I'm using MusicBee 3.3.6904

Tried dragging and dropping, but it doesn't seem to work.

What did you drag and drop?

Go to View> Arrange Panels, find the element from the available elements list, and drag and drop it to a side bar or panel.
Then click on "Tag Editor" button, run "Set displayed fields" menu, and add fields in an order to your liking.

Maybe there are two tag editors. I use the one when I click Shift+Enter, the floating tag editor. Is that possible to customize in the same way?
