Beyond MusicBee / Re: Help with Years
« on: June 19, 2015, 11:59:03 AM »
Just You, Just Me, (Brian Auger), appeared on Rockapella: Rockapella  2;  2000; length 1:49

Have you considered The Swingle Singers, search?
Swingle Singers
Yesterday from “The Beatles Collection”
"Canon" (NOT Canon in D) JSB Greatest Hits by the Swingle Singers 1963 length 1:53

Conon in D could be the “Acapella Vocal Band” or” Acapella”, both being quite dificult to tag.

I hope this is of some use to you

MusicBee Wishlist / 4th Tab
« on: June 18, 2015, 11:24:25 AM »
Currently in the “Now Playing: show track information” panel there are options for three tabs all of which I find useful.

What I would like to see is an option for a fourth tab that would display any comments listed in “comments:” in the “edit/tag.”

It would be great if this was a simple text editor as per the lyrics tab that comments to be entered in the new tab be saved into the edit/tag.

MusicBee Wishlist / custom tags
« on: June 05, 2015, 01:54:01 PM »
I would like to see three of the custom having the same properties as the Genre tag.  That is to say, that with the use of a semi-colon only the first portion of the information would can displayed.
I am aware that reducing column width can achieve a similar result, but it does not look tidy.

Thank you
Mick

Originally, Replay Gain, as proposed by David Robinson in 2001, was designed to avoid of continuous adjusting the volume of a music player.  His original proposal was that the perceived loudness was to be 83 dB.

ReplayGain, bought a change in the in the value of the perceived loudness to 89 dB.  The reason for the increase was to accommodate the needs of the film industry.  MB's sliding scale has ovecome the need for this change.
A more full description is here ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReplayGain#Target_loudness )

Therefore, using “volume analysis” within MusicBee the “0” value, I would imagine the target value of 89 dB is achieved.  However; with MB’s sliding scale more than just the above-mentioned levels; it is therefore a matter of personal choice.

The higher the ReplayGain, the greater the opportunity is for “clipping” to be allowed, but MB allows for that if you tick the warning box.  Although “clipping” can ruinous to a sound, it need not be.  It is dependent on the way that CD has been Engineered and the simple fact that the human ear does not/cannot detect either an increase or decrease in  “sound pressure” of approx.75 dB.  ( http://www.dspguide.com/ch22/1.htm ) paragraph 8

I hope this is of use, if not already answered

Questions / Re: skip silence
« on: October 30, 2014, 07:43:20 PM »
I can understand how busy you are that's why the next question is a yes ot no with no explanations  required.

Is it normal to get a value of 0:00:000 after clicking "skip silence" (end time(, when when there are at least 3 seconds of silence.

Questions / Re: skip silence
« on: October 30, 2014, 06:38:04 PM »
I have reduced the track length in some cases by as much as 3/5 seconds, sometimes more.  In some cases this is been needed because of the studio fadeout, which can be very long.

From a little research, I have learned that human hearing cannot differentiate the change of perceived loudness of track as low as 1.5db (+/- up or down).  Therefore, studio fade out, which can be long, may be perceived as sound silent at the end.  This will require, deepening on just how “tight” I want my tracks, the reducing of the length of a track.

In none technical and none programming terms because I am not that technical and have no programming understanding, the program to remove silence from the beginning and end of a track is not a “listening tool” but a measuring “tool.”  I can see the almost “silent” parts of fade out using Audacity without the track playing.

What I would like to know when MusicBee removes silence at the start and end of a track, do either have to be of a specific length/value.  If my tracks do not reach that  value is that why when I use Edit/Settings and click  end time “skip silence”  I get a value of 0:00:000 when there is at least 3 seconds of silence.  If this is the case, why do I not get the same value when I click start time “skip silence” and get values as low as 0:00:331.

I am sure that this is not a normal event and even though I am not paranoid, I can accept that it may be happening to just me.  I am just hoping that in your armoury you have a tool, preferably not a hammer, or a fix to solve what I am experiencing.  It would certainly help me.

Questions / Re: skip silence
« on: October 30, 2014, 05:13:53 PM »
I am not sure that I fully understand the question, for which I apologise, however when manually timing my tracks, I will use whatever value is required to obtain an almost gapless playback.  I assume that is the intention of remove silence at the start and end of track.

I hope the above makes some sense Steven, thank you for responding.

Questions / skip silence [SOLVED}
« on: October 30, 2014, 01:57:43 PM »
I am now using MusicBee version 2.5.5516 and all and all is well in my world

Thank you Steven

MusicBee 2.4.5404
Track “Adele – Chasing Pavements” ...length 2.28:200
Start time = 0:00
skip silence = 0:00.300
End time = 3:30.579
skip silence = 0:00.000
Preferences  are ... “smooth  fade..., dynamically normalise... and normalise volume... are the only preferences ticked under “sound affects”

With the track played with skipped timing (0:00.455 and 0:00.000) the track plays to its full length, i.e. not as manually shortened. However, play advance,  as expected, is not shown on the bottom bar.  The track plays as it should except that if I click anywhere along the advance bar the track restarts.  When I click advance MB moves to the next track in the play list.

When I manually time the track, to get the tight timing that I like, I reduce the track length to 3:27.579.
My thought ... if skip timing (start time) can acknowledge 3 hundredths of a second, why is it, in my case, the same produces 0:00.00 as the end time (Skip Silence)?
I would never change from using MusicBee because of what it offers me; I can manage as things are but hope that there is a solution to my problem.
Regards Mick

Edit
I should have mentioned that  has been an ongoing "problem" for quite a while.
Edit 2
The above also applies when "remove silence at start and end of track" is ticked or, it is not working in my case.

Yes, I was using the default skin, however I have now changed to "modern" .
All is as it was in in Classic skin and all looks just the same, the way I like it.  Is it now possible for me to change the hue of the Library (only) screen?

MusicBee Wishlist / I'm sure this is purely selfish

I absolutely love the latest version of MusicBee.  I am sure that I will be told that it is not perfect yet, but for sure, I ain’t perfect so maybe that is why I love it.

However, I would like two more things.

I am using MB version: 2.4.5315 set to Classic layout.

First, I would like to change the main music library screen to a softer hue instead of white.  Is it possible for a user to do that, if so how please?

Second, my “scroll in player as” is as follows

<Artist> ~ <Title> ~ <Year> ~ <Hit> ~ <Album> ~ <Nat>

<Hit> will include either the chart position of the track e.g. “#1” or [alb] and <Nat> gives the artist’s origination, “USA/Albany/Georgia.”
To the scrolling list, I would like to add the film name and date if the track was used in a film.  I have created a custom tag with the required information, however, if I include it in “scroll in player as” it will much more often than not display as “Unknown Film.”
Is there any clever instruction that can tell that part of “Scroll in player as” to ignore <Film>, if empty?

If the answer is no to both or either, can it be inlcuded somewhen, somehow, please.

Regards
Mick
