You would make a lot of people very happy if you could update that plug-in.

Instead of having duplicates, have a look at transcoding.
You have your collection in Flac
Make a playlist
Sync this play list to the portable and transcode all Flac to MP3 on the fly.

Long delay in confirming but this worked perfectly, thanks!

If I understand the hide duplicates feature correctly, they're actually just moved to the inbox when "hidden". So an auto-playlist that includes the inbox as a source and pulls mp3s only should do the trick.

No, they don't go to the Inbox when you choose the 'Hide Duplicates' option - they are marked as hidden and cannot be seen anywhere except the bottom part of the Manage Duplicates screen.

Is it possible to create an Auto playlist of Hidden Items?

Questions / Hidden Duplicates - tricky problem....
« on: August 18, 2020, 11:05:53 PM »
My library contains a mixture of FLAC and MP3 and I use MB's excellent Manage Duplicates function to ensure I only have one copy of each track in my library, favouring the FLAC version where I have both.

On the Manage Duplicates screen, I have selected 'hide duplicates' as my duplicate handling option.

This all works fine, however...

I have an MP3 player that I like to refresh regularly with a different mix of new and old music.

This MP3 player does not support FLAC so I want some way to get an MP3-only view of my library for those moments when I am updating my MP3 player.

Is there any way to do this without undoing all the good FLAC-favouring, MP3-hiding duplicates management I have in place?

For instance, can I create an Auto playlist that will show Hidden files (the files that have been hidden by the Manage Duplicates file handling)?  Then I could have an auto-playlist that shows only files of type MP3 and includes my hidden files.

Or is there some other way round this that I'm missing..?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I have about 80 playlists with anywhere between 15 and 150 tracks in each.  Individually tagging each track isn't going to be a great option for me although it's one to consider for making playlists in future.

Thinking of other possible solutions to my little duplicate problem...

If I were to create a playlist containing all of my hidden duplicates, is there some way to cross-reference that playlist against all my other playlists, i.e. to have MB tell me which tracks that appear in me hidden duplicates playlist also appear in some other playlist?

I appreciate your help and I promise I'll give up and stop asking stuff after this ;-)

Hi, thanks again for trying to help

Re your suggestion of generating playlists from tags, I don't think that would work for me as all of mine are 'hand-curated', i.e. I select individual tracks to put together, rather than some theme or something based on a genre or any other tags.  And anyway, my request is more about ongoing maintenance of existing playlists (I have many!), than making new ones.

I guess I assumed that the 'hide duplicate' feature was somehow flagging the hidden tracks with some attribute in the MB library XML that could then be used to at least highlight them in any existing playlist.

Can I assume from what you've said that there isn't actually any technical connection between playlists and the MB library and in fact playlists contain references to the actual files, rather than the MB library item?  If so then that would explain why what I'm asking for is not feasible, at least not without completely reworking how playlists work ;-)

Hi, thanks for the quick reply!

Actually, the 'hide duplicates' option doesn't send anything to the Inbox, it just hides it from the Library view and it appears in the 'duplicates marked as hidden' panel in the Duplicates Manager Dialog box.  At least that's my experience using v3.3.7261 and doing this many times in the last few days ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion of using 'Send To > Replace' but I don't want to get rid of my mp3 files, I just want MB to only show me the FLAC equivalent if there is one, and I'd like that to happen in my playlists as well as the Library.

Does this make sense now and do you think it could be possible...?

Thanks

Jon

Scenario:

I have track x in a custom playlist (track x is an mp3)

Later I add track y, which is a FLAC version of track x

I use MB's Manage Duplicates to hide track x from my Music library, leaving track y in place

Result >> track x disappears from the Music & Music Explorer views but is still present in the playlist

Result I would like to see  ;) >>

track x is replaced in the playlist with track y
OR
track x is left in the playlist but somehow flagged as hidden (so I can go in and manually update the playlist to point to track y)

Is it possible..?

Thank you!

MusicBee Wishlist / Make 'Duplicates Marked as Hidden' panel expandable
« on: January 24, 2020, 10:53:33 AM »
Hi

On the Manage Duplicates dialog box, the lower panel ('duplicates marked as hidden') remains the same height, regardless of how much stuff is in there or whether you expand the overall dialog box.

When you have many thousands of marked duplicates, it becomes very hard to use when you can only see seven at a time.

It would be great if this could be vertically expandable or if the whole Manage Duplicates dialog could be docked into a tab so I could play with it there.

Or could I somehow make a 'Marked Duplicates' playlist..?  That would work for me if it's possible.

Thank you!

MusicBee Wishlist / Manage Duplicates Hotkey

Hi, could you please add the option for Tools > Manage Duplicates to be assignable to a Hotkey?

I'm in the process of adding lots of FLAC versions of files to my library and this would make the whole process just a little easier ;-)

Thank you!

Bug Reports / Duplicates not found when selecting multiple tracks
« on: January 24, 2020, 10:40:56 AM »
Hello MB Heroes

I am starting to add FLAC versions of files that I already have in MP3 format, using MB's Manage Duplicates feature to hide the 'lossier' version of the file (but not deleting it).  This is working OK but I'm finding one repeating issue...

If I select an entire album (or multiple albums) then select Manage Duplicates, MB often does not match all the duplicates first time around.

Screenshot - https://imgur.com/a/TyROMeZ

If I Execute all the found duplicates then go and select 2 duplicates that were not identified first time around, it will then correctly identify them as duplicates (I have not changed anything in the meantime other than executing the other found dupes).

Screenshot - https://imgur.com/a/3J1nZqV

The issue seems to be something related to when you are selecting multiple files, e.g. if I select 10 pairs of duplicates, MB might identify 6 of them, then I'll have to go and select the other 4 pairs individually (each pair, one at a time) for it to acknowledge them as duplicates.

This is very tedious, especially as there is no option to add a hotkey for manage duplicates (I'll be raising a request for this  ;) ).

Before you ask... I know there are many, many reasons why a duplicate might not be identified (slight spelling variation, different year, different length etc.) but I've already ruled all of that out - these are genuine duplicates that MB recognises as duplicates if you only select the two files, but not when you select them as part of a larger group.

Let me know if I can provide any logs or anything else.

Thank you

Jon

Questions / Adding Audiobooks to Library
« on: February 08, 2019, 04:12:20 PM »
Hi

I'm adding a large number of audiobooks to my library.  Currently, they are sitting in my MB Inbox, but physically, the files are not yet in the MB Library directory.  They are all MP3s, all nicely tagged but currently not in the right directory structure (I want MB to organise them).

I have a separate Audiobooks directory and I've defined a specific naming template in File Organiser (slightly different to my default template that I use for Music).

I want them to be properly identified as Audiobooks by MB, so that they appear under the Audiobooks menu on the Library tab.

Here's my problem:

From the Inbox, If I choose 'Send To > Audiobooks', the files get properly marked as MB Audiobooks but (a) they do not get moved into the Library directory and (b) they are removed from the Inbox, so I then have to go and find them in MB and choose 'Send To > Folder (Move) > Move Files To Organised Folder' to get them in the right place.

Alternatively, if, from the Inbox, I choose 'Send To > Folder (Move) > Move Files To Organised Folder', it moves the files to the Library but not to the right location (becuase it uses my default naming template - I cannot choose the Audiobooks template, the dropdown menu is greyed out) so I then have to go and find them in MB and choose 'Send To > Audiobooks'.

Is there some way that I can send an audiobook file directly from the Inbox to my designated Audiobooks Directory and have them added to the MB library in one move?

If not, is there some way that I can tag them as Audiobooks within the Inbox but without them disappearing from the Inbox?  (I think flagging something as an MB Audiobook is not done via a standard ID3 tag, right?).

Or am I just going about this is completely the wrong way..?

MB version 3.2.6902

Thanks

Jon
