Questions / Re: How many music files in Music Bee?
« on: May 07, 2022, 03:20:48 PM »
Hi there
It can handle a lot. I have over 350,000 songs and it can handle all of them without a hitch.

Thanks.

Hi there

Currently I have over 330,000 songs and under 20,000 albums and MusicBee hasn't fallen over yet, so it looks like it can hold a lot of stuff.

Thanks

David

This sounds ideal to me. Now how can I create a virtual folder for use in musicber for this purpose? Sorry to be a thicko.

Look under Devices in Preferences. Also, this will automatically create copies so you may be able to skip that step (although a backup is never a bad thing).

Thanks Mate

This worked a treat. You are a genius.

Thanks again.

For example, I have albums of various bitrates, from 32Kbps to 320Kbps. I would like to convert anything above 160Kbps to 160Kbps but there doesn't seem to be an option for selecting only files with a greater bitrate.

Can you tell me if this is possible?

You could do this by setting up an output folder as a virtual device and using the sync settings to tell it which files to convert.

As mentioned, for your permanent collection it's not recommended to convert lossy to lossy because you're degrading the audio quality even more than if you'd started with that bitrate. But for device storage it can make sense.

Thanks mate

Files will be copied elsewhere beforehand so only copies will be converted.

Do you intend to make copies before you do any reduction in files size? If not then the already 'lossy' files will be even more 'lossy' and may sound a bit grim if you then intend to feed them into an audiophile music system..

Hi there

Thanks for your response.

All music will be copied to another location beforehand so the originals are not being touched in any way.

In the musicbee conversion settings, file quality can be changed, but there is no option for "only covert files which are greater than *** in size". Need something like this.

Thanks again

Hi there

I'd like to use File Converter built into musicbee to convert my files to a smaller file size to enable me to get more onto my ipod.

Works great, however is there an option to only select files which are greater than the required bitrate?

Questions / Tagging Disc#
« on: July 12, 2017, 10:42:48 AM »
Hi All

Have been using MusicBee for a while now and find it the best for tagging and keeping tabs on my music collection (just under 7,500 albums at present and over 131,000 tracks).

The problem is this - I have single albums and multiple disc sets. The multiple disc sets are all tagged as Disc#1, Disc#2, etc in the Disc# field. This means that when listed, tracks are shown as 1-01, 1-02, etc. which is the way I want it. However, single albums which were tagged a while ago were not tagged with a disc# - I have recently changed this now so that all discs are now tagged as such. Rather than go through all albums which would take a considerable amount of time, is there any way to very quickly search for all disc# fields which are blank and replace them with the number 1?

This would save me a lot of time and effort. Thanks again, and thanks for making MusicBee the best in the business.
