Portable Devices / Re: Wifi android device synching

Any chance 2-way syncing could be made to work with MediaMonkey on android?
No - MMA does not provide an API to extract the required data for play counts, rating, etc

That's disappointing, but thank you for looking into it. Hopefully a better Android player compatible with many of MusicBee's features will come along one day.

Any chance 2-way syncing could be made to work with MediaMonkey on android? It's probably the only music app I've found that actually handles delimiters for artists/genres/etc as well as MusicBee does, but I prefer to use your program on my PC.
If I understand correctly, you want the developer of MusicBee to create something that will work with MediaMonkey??? Please tell me you're not serious. If you are, you need to understand that the MB developer does this in his spare time, for no compensation other than a small pittance in donations, and has more than he can handle dealing with his own application. I suggest you talk with the paid staff at MediaMonkey.

I'm deeply confused. You understand that I meant MediaMonkey on Android, like I said in my previous post, and not the PC version of MediaMonkey? If that truly is where the confusion lies than you could have simply asked for clarification. That's why I said "MediaMonkey on Android" specifically to be clear what I meant.

I thought this was a topic made to gauge interest in, and receive feedback on, people wanting an app to sync between MusicBee and Android music players, which is why I asked if getting the 2-way sync to work with MediaMonkey on Android would be possible. If the answer is no, that's fine.

I'm also not entirely sure why you have framed my question with an uncharitably ungrateful implication as I even offered thanks twice, at the beginning and the end of my post, which you didn't include when you quoted me.

I honestly had no idea a harmless question would instigate such a negative response, and had I known, I simply wouldn't have asked. Previously my questions have been received pretty well.

Edit: Also, Steven literally asked for the exact type of feedback I gave in his original post:

I am doing some research into Wifi synching with android devices and also want to investigate the possibility of 2-way synching with some of the popular android players. Not promising anything but what I want to know is for the people interested in this, which android player do you use?

First of all, thanks so much for trying to get this to work. I rely a lot on playlists and such that utilise how much and often I play a song, and plays not syncing both ways is a real bummer and basically ruins this system.

Any chance 2-way syncing could be made to work with MediaMonkey on android? It's probably the only music app I've found that actually handles delimiters for artists/genres/etc as well as MusicBee does, but I prefer to use your program on my PC.

I know the answer may be no, if only because MM is a major rival to MusicBee, but without an actual "MusicBee Mobile" (Mobee?), MediaMonkey probably serves this function the closest on Android.

Thanks so much if you can get it working.

I'm not super literate when it comes to MTP devices, but I'm curious if there's a way to sum up what might need to be done/changed in order to make syncing play counts work.

Considering how lacking many music players are on handling play counts, or at least supporting syncing them, I'm almost at the point where I want to try and understand why, and maybe even look into developing a compatible "MusicBee Mobile" style app that supports the way MusicBee handles tagging and such, adding in stuff like support for Mood and Occasion as well.

I've been exploring how to keep the play count of songs played with both Musicbee and on my mobile device synced, and because most Android players don't support the tagging depth of Musicbee, I'm trying to use the "replace artist tag" option to make it so they'll scrobble the display artist consistently with how Musicbee does instead of only partially (which has been happening).

The problem is this is what happens:

1) I sync to add the song to my device.
2) I play the song and scrobble it to last.fm.
3) Last.fm updates its play count for that track.
4) I open Musicbee to let it update the play count from last.fm.
5) The play count either doesn't update, or my entire play history for that track gets deleted in Musicbee.

I'm not sure if I really expect a response given all the last.fm woes I've seen brought up here, of which many lack solutions, or even a single response, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.

I located the LastFmPlayCountCache.dat file on my system and this is what it has for the recent track I've been testing this with:

General Discussions / Re: Tag artist on soundtracks
« on: May 02, 2018, 04:16:50 PM »
You could probably make various arguments on how to tag music based on multiple factors including personal preference.

I'm going to use Moana as an example because it's very similar, and it's a Disney album I have tracks properly tagged for.

This is how I currently have Where You Are tagged:

Display Artist: Christopher Jackson, Rachel House, Nicole Scherzinger, Auliʻi Cravalho & Louise Bush
Artist: (all of the above separated out into individual Artist tag entries)
Display Composer: Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa'i & Mark Mancina
Composer: (all of the above separated out into individual Composer tag entries)

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Track Spacing & Playlist Covers.

Yeah iTunes does this; you can set your own image for a playlist folder, for example. It's really handy, especially as a visual cue.

Questions / Remove a mood from MusicBee's drop down list?
« on: June 09, 2017, 04:34:43 AM »
I have two junk moods that serve no purpose to me that show up in MusicBee's drop down list. Is there a way to remove them?

9
custom (bitmap) skins cant support that. It will work with the musicbee default skin or some of the dark (non-metro) skins

So it looks like the latest beta supports this feature for the skin(s) I'm using now, which is wonderful, but is there any way to reposition the artwork? I'd prefer it to be between the play, next, and previous buttons and the seek, title, artist, and time bar.

i made a change recently where if you end the text with "; " then selecting another item from the drop-down appends to the text

Can I ask when this change will be made available, if it's not already in the patchable 3.1 betas (I'll have to check)?

Edit: Just checked the latest version and it's there, thanks.

Did you try adding multiple moods with the same delimiter you used for genres in the mood field?

The problem is that MusicBee has a great separate window for genre editing, but mood and occasion only have a single drop-down list each, and neither appears to make it easy to select more than one choice at a time. It would be nice if they had their own separate window like genre does so it would be easier to select more than one within the program.

Forgive me if I've missed this anywhere, and this isn't a massive priority, but I could definitely see myself possibly using these tags for when I want to easily play music for a particular mood or occasion, but by default MusicBee only lets you pick one from each list.

I don't know if this is a tagging restriction, but I'd love a setup like genre where you can easily add multiple of each with a delimiter.

Apologies if this is an annoying question, but I did use the search function and didn't find anything.

With the new work and movement tags available in 3.1 is there a a way to get tracks to appear like how iTunes handles them i.e. having the the different movements listed in an indented list below that work? I can't figure out how to do it, if it is currently possible.

If you aren't already, try using the 3.1 beta from my signature.  It adds an original year field so you can use a consistent year for the album, for sorting, but also store dates for individual tracks or whatever

This is great. I had the same basic issue, and it's one thing that I thought iTunes handled better than MusicBee because it picks whatever the most recent year is from the tracks in the album and sorts by that, but simply having "track year" and "album year" is a much better solution overall. I just hope that if I modify all my tracks to account for this that it'll end up being useful; a lot of programs only tend to recognise the main year field.

MusicBee Wishlist / Highlighting delimiter text
« on: April 20, 2017, 08:22:01 PM »
Apologies if this has come up before, and also because they say a picture is worth a thousand words:

I understand this may be too difficult or specific, but what are the chances of adding the ability to create delimiter text for non-title text for songs? So the main song title, artist name, etc, would be highlighted in a different font colour, and the delimiter text, like joining phrases ("&", ",", "feat.", etc) would have a different font colour that differentiates itself from the rest.

The "(Artist 3 remix)" part was more just an idea, as adding in detection for actual song names/artists may be weird or tricky to implement, though it could be handy to offer a quick link to that artist's other work in your music library.

The colour scheme could obviously be changed, and different depending on theme.

Any thoughts? I'm even just curious to see if this is something other people might want.
