Sounds like you're still going to the app and then trying to find the setting. Don't do that, find the setting and then find the app.

If I understand correctly you're doing:

Search for app -> go into app's settings -> click file permissions -> see only media options -> no profit

Which to be fair makes the most sense, but just don't because it wont work lol (I did this first too).

You need to:

Search for "all file access" in the generic settings app (I don't know if you can even find it manually, so to save time I just use the search feature) -> select this, get into a menu with a big list titled special access -> select first option "all file access" -> find the app in question (music bee in this case) -> ensure the little flip switch is blue (toggled to the right, meaning active) -> profit

 :)

Sadly Music bee is not in this list of apps under "all file access"

You have to manually go through android settings and change allow only media files to allow all files.
This worked for me with modified wifi app
Settings
Apps
Musicbee wifi sync
Permissions
Files and settings

I dont seem to be able to do this in on my samsung S20 Android 12, I cant seem to get it to have all files, media is the only one I got

Anyone else been able to get around wifi sync and needing access to the root sd card folder?  It just stopped working probably a few months ago, there was no update to my phone in that time, Ive cleared all data from the app as well.  I guess it could have been a google thing that was pushed through a play store update

Followed BoringName's steps, and it gave an access error-- continued to follow his steps by going to setttings (I also have a samsung, though its a 22 u) and searched for special access, selected the result, selected "all files access", and then found music bee wifi sync app and gave it access. Now it works :)

My phone is not rooted, for context.

From reading your post, and what I did initially myself lol, I imagine you're checking permissions of the app specifically-- you can't get to where you need to be by looking at the specific app's access permissions. All file access is it's own menu found in settings (that lists all the apps that have requested the permission and shows if they have it or not), so you go there first and then find the app in question from that space ^_^

I tried that with no luck

From settings - apps it shows the app has files and media permission, click that it shows files and media, but if I click on files and media it shows allow access to media only.  despite it saying files and media in the screen before.  Go to the app, it stil wont let me select sd card

Figured out the issue, I forgot I've had this happen before

I have all my files stored music /artist, but for what ever reason music bee thinks it should be in music/music /artist

So I have to create a new folder and move music folder into, rename it music and then it's all good. Unfortunately I wiped my bigger SD card before realizing this so I'll have to resync everything

At the end of the sync preview, scroll down to the very bottom and you should see something like "xxxx other files to transfer." For whatever reason it is deleting the files and then copying them again. Perhaps the date stamp on the files has changed.

I know it is planning on recopying them, date stamps have not changed on my entire music library.  It shows it will copy over all the files again, but that takes a lot of time.

Portable Devices / (solved) MusicBee wants to delete all songs upon sync
« on: February 28, 2022, 12:00:25 AM »
I havent had this issue in a long time, perhaps never with musicbee (but media monkey)

But no matter how I sync, wifi or by cable, music bee wants to remove every song before syncing.  I havent changed anything, havent updated phone or music bee (though I have now to see if it fixed it and it didnt).

I checked, all options and locations are the same.  I even tried my other phone I use just for media and it too wants to delete every song before syncing.

Any idea on why and how to fix this?  Rather not have to resync my entire library

Windows 10, Galaxy s20 android 12

Thanks

Questions / Synch to two different storage locations on Android?
« on: September 19, 2021, 11:43:32 AM »
Is this possible?

I'd like to sync my music to my sd card and audiobooks to internal storage, can that be done?

I just got a galaxy s9+ that is on Android 10 and all my playlists no matter the music application is empty

I've applied the patch here

https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=30862

But that doesnt seem to fix it, I opend the playlists on my phone with a text editor and they all use the forward slash / so the patch seems to have done its job there

Do I need to save them as something other than m3u?

My music apps see the playlists, but they're empty

I use playerpro, I've tried a few other apps they all show empty or nothing

The best I can get is BlackPlayer, it doesnt see any of them naturally, but I can import them individually. But I dont want to do that every time I make a change to my playlist.

I've cleared cache, uninstalled and deleted app data, wiped my sd card and re-synced and no luck.

I'm on 3.3.7602, wired sync.  I could try wifi, but not sure why that would improve things as the playlists seem to be in the right format now.

Any other ways to fix this?

Thanks

Thanks

Fails how? The message says it has temporarily stalled. This is expected.  That's why there's a message telling you what to expect.

You haven't indicated any other reason you think it has "failed."  Is there something?

It stops working, it literally says something like error, sync failed after that.  I'd have to run it again to get the actual message, but it hangs on that for awhile and then I get a sync failed message

I suggest trying out the android wifi-sync as it doesnt suffer the long device pauses when files are deleted
I can try that, though it's not a long pause, well it is and after awhile it fails

So I thought I had this figured out, wiping my sd card was not the fix.  It only seemed the fix as the next couple times I synced data I only copied over songs and didn't have any files removes, and once I had to have Music bee remove files, the problem started over again.

So the bug is anytime musicbee deletes tracks off my sd card, it fails after removing the files, and I have to exit musicbee, reopen it and sync again to get anything new copied over.

I use a Galaxy S8 on Android Pie (9)

The error message I get when it tries to copy the first new song is

"Synchronization has temporarily stalled for 3-10 minutes while the device processes current file operations"

If I'm only syncing over files, it works flawlessly

It could be an update on android that has this issue happening.  I've removed and readded the device to music bee.  I even wiped my sd card, no use

Thanks

I am on the latest version of muiscbee, windows 10, am not using windows store version.

PS I created another thread as editing my original thread might not have gotten it any attention

Wiped memory card fixed it!

I dont think it's going to sleep, it could be software issue and not MB (though I've done a factory reset for other reasons and this issue is still happening) but it's so weird it works the second time.

When I do the first sync, nothing is copied over, it just hangs until it fails or I close out, BUT it will remove any file I have marked for deletion.

I've even removed the device and readded it to MB in preferences.

Only thing I haven't tried yet and I'll probably try this weekend is wipe my sd card and sync everything over.  There could be some android file on there from an older ROM I was on as I've been syching to this memory card for a year and a half through up dates and different roms, so it just may need to be wiped and start from scratch

MusicBee 3.3.7165

Sync over USB, I've tried different usb ports and different cables.  It's weird that it fails the first time, but if I close MB, disconnect my phone and then reconnect and relaunch it works

Please delete, the fix did not actually fix it and the problem wasn't quite what I thought
