Questions / Re: Auto DJ Question
« on: March 04, 2016, 12:55:29 PM »
I hope it's okay to use this thread for another related question: Even though my settings are set to use drives F:\ and G:\ only (my two external hard drives, filled with music files) Auto DJ will continue to use tracks which are stored on my hard drive C:\. Is there a way to suppress this behavior? I'm now getting interview files in AutoDJ playlists.

Excuse me Steven, I went back to v2.5 already (so no error log available). After upgrading from v2.4 to v2.5. I noticed that the Auto DJ didn't work anymore and someone suggested trying the beta of v3.0 to solve that problem. I'm actually thinking of going back to v2.4 instead. I hope it won't be as it was with Winamp, when all kinds of faulty upgrades annoyed the following.  Since v2.5 MB does not recognized my library "MP3 Collection" anymore which spans two external hard drives with music files.

I think I just started MusicBee and I don't recall doing anything specific. Also I wouldn't know how to share the log file since everything is limited to 2,000 characters. Sorry. I only shared the error code because the program asked me to.

Auto playlist = Auto DJ (?) I'm experiencing the same problems. There was never a problem creating playlists using the Auto DJ but now it does. My music files are housed on two external hard drives, but now MB is saying that "Files could not be retrieved" due to the file path being too long. I can't help but feel that I should return to the previous version.

Questions / Using and working with a custom field
« on: January 25, 2016, 11:00:54 PM »
Hello everyone,
I have a request and question that may sound a bit odd. Prologue: Ever since collecting digital music I lobbied for ratings to be saved inside the single files. Back then I used Winamp. This subject was discussed various times in their forum but never taken into serious consideration (even though there were many users who supported my request). Therefore I just "misused" the "BPM" field to enter my ratings. I basically use a five-star-rating with have half steps. So, 5 stars is "10" points; 3 1/2 stars yields a "7" and so on. I hope you get the idea.

In MusicBee I'm finding the custom fields and I would like to convert my rating from the "BPM" field to "Custom3". Since I'm tagging my digital files using MP3Tag editor I will have to work using this table:
http://help.mp3tag.de/main_tags.html
According to this post (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=15257.msg90997#msg90997) users have done similar things but the preferences urge me to use a predefined value (which I don't want). So, whatever value is entered in the file is only meant to be stored in my database. But how do I address that? How can I call the value in that field? Can anyone tell me what ID3 abbreviation I need to address when using the Custom3 field? Thanks you guys in advance!!

Questions / Last.fm woes and further thoughts
« on: September 06, 2015, 12:47:44 AM »
I'm sure many of you music lovers will know about the trouble Last.fm caused with the new look and limited services of their website. Many things which users came to love over the years have gone. No one can know for sure if the full functionality will ever come back.

Because of this unsatisfying situation I was wondering if MusicBee should be the starting point of a new way for music lovers to track their own listening habits. Since we have a built-in Last.fm scrobbling service why not have a reporting function which makes all that available to - let's say - services like WordPress or MusicBrainz? Or make it exportable to simple text files. Obviously we cannot rely on single services like last.fm which may change due to their commercial targets. Therefore I'd say: Leave the data to the users who created them!

If MusicBee doesn't play a trick on my my library currently spans 121.000+ songs (9.137 albums -> 1.558 GBs). I started collecting digital music in 2005 to have it with me when traveling. I'm not realizing that my 9.000+ CDs collection is practically outdated.
I'm running two external hard drives of 2TB each (drives F:\ and G:\). I have two more discs for monthly backups. This works well for me. As for the sorting I'm strictly going by either the artist's last name, or the band's main name (suppressing "The" in front of a band name). So this would look like this:
F:\Artists from A to L
G:\Artists from M to Z

Example:

G:   \ (...)
   \Rodgers, Kenny
   \Rolling Stones, The
   \Ronstandt, Linda
   \Rose Royce

Within an artist's/band's folder I go by the year if more than one album is available:

Year - Artist - Album name:
1975 - The Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock'n'Roll
1975 - The Rolling Stones - Black and Blue
(etc.)

On top of that I'm taking care that all my files are neatly tagged. In most cases I even take the time to tag the composers, producers, label, catalog number, etc. I guess I'm a freak too  ;)

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Integration with Windows
« on: July 02, 2015, 11:30:14 AM »
Hello everyone,
because of this thread I nicely got MusicBee to work the way I wanted it on my Win7 system. Trying the same on a newer Win8 laptop causes some problems: I started MusicBee with admin rights and made the change in the preferences section. Unfortunately in the Windows explorer there is no possibility to add a play list as either "next" or at the "latest" in the play window of MB (as in the graphic that phred shared).

I'm fairly sure this is due to Win8 but does anyone of you maybe know how to work around this problem and get the functionality anyway? Thank you in advance!

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Export & Import settings
« on: January 21, 2015, 02:21:11 PM »
Thanks, but I'm not sure if I understand correctly. As I said, there IS NO "MusicBeeSettings.ini" in the directory of the installation. That's why I was wondering.

This is what I was looking for too. The backup creates a MusicBeeSettings.ini file. However, the initial installation does not have it. What do I do with MusicBeeSettings.ini?
