Title: Scamelon
Post by: Bee-liever on April 15, 2013, 03:17:09 AM
ATTENTION!
This skin (in its present form) will not be updated for MusicBee 3.0.
Please see here (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=19676.0) for the new skin version.

@ scampbll
Do you wanna take a look before I finalise the skin?
Is it close to what you wanted?
Any changes?

Edit: December 12, 2014:
It was never my intention that this skin become part of my repertoire.  It was only to be a base on which psychoadept (a.k.a. scampbll at that time) would create his Mellon Remixed (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=9776.0) skin.
But it is on the wiki as one of my skins, so I've decided I will maintain it.  However, I'm going to change it so it's my MB version of the original MM Mellon (http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=58866) skins.

Snazzy!  Nice work!

It's really close already.  The only major thing I would change is to not have the pattern in the caption bars; I'm just not a fan of the image in background in general.  There are some other things I can think of to tweak, but I'm nodding off right now.  I'll look at it tomorrow and see what I come up with.

Thanks so much!

Link updated with plain background version

Things I haven't done yet:
windows buttons
Nav. panel icons
a few minor colour elements

Been a bit busier than planned, sorry!  I thought of fiddling with the XML myself, but haven't had time to make sense of it yet.

Mostly I would say fewer gradients, except maybe the library explorer header and background for Track Details tabs, and make the left panel all one color (no backgrounds on the major nodes).  Oh, and make the sidebar/compact player purple, along with MusicBee button and windows buttons in corner.  :)

Thanks again for your help on this!

Link Updated!

Removed some gradients and blended the remaining ones more fully with background colour
No gradients in LH panel - fonts change colour for selection
try the updated version and let me know what you think

Great!  I'm especially happy with the compact player, and I like what you did with the spectrum visualization.  I think it's in great shape.  Now I have a skin that I can use for all my installations!

I figure anything else I decide to tweak, I'll see if I can figure out on my own, and if I can't I'll consult you.  It'll be good practice for me, and probably easier than trying to describe.  :)   Does that work for you?

Works for me.

I'll do a tidy up and make sure I haven't missed anything, then post a screen shot and proper link for our "collaborative" effort  :)

@Bee-liever

Could you upload the skin to another host server  ??? My antivirus finds their download manager malicious.

Yeah, you can get around the download manager.

Okay, if I break it how do I fix it?

As far as I know I just changed some colors, but maybe wordpad messed it up or something?  I'm not getting any error messages, but when I try to use it MB goes to "Windows Theme" instead.

Hi
Nice theme ,
I try to convert the MellonPlayer into MusicBee,
So far it looks like this:
(http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/8761/mellonplayer.jpg) (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/585/mellonplayer.jpg/)
If you like you can include into skin,
or i can post a download link ,if somebody is interest.

Wow, that's awesome!  I have less clue how to do bitmap skins than I do normal skins, but if no one else gets there first, I might look into it...

All tidied up!
New link and pics in first post

@ BinghiFire

This has really turned into a communal effort!

Please compile your bitmap player with the latest version of the skin and post a link. It looks great.
(or PM me the link and I'll put it in the post with the standard skin)

Will have to do a new splash screen with your name on it as well  ;)

Re-download the original and keep a back-up to restore to when changing things around.
Recommend Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/) rather than using wordpad.  Only a small download and it's features make it easier to edit .xml.

Yeah, I've been having a heck of a time keeping a backup.  I'll do better.

Nice splash screen!

Notepad++ has been a huge help, too, thanks!

I finally managed to get a bit of a system down and find some time to look at this.  After messing with it for a few hours, I have much greater appreciation of your talents, Bee-liever.  It's a lot of work!

A couple of questions:

In general, does the order the elements are listed in the file matter?  It seems like after I rearranged a couple of things to try to make sense of what pieces go together, some things broke.

And one specific question, which for all I know may be related to the first.  I've almost got something cool going on here, but how do I get rid of that lingering pale blue line?  I can't figure out what's controlling it.

Yes, it matters. Sometimes I spend hours looking for what went wrong and finally find out the order of elements wasn't right.

And one specific question, which for all I know may be related to the first.  I've almost got something cool going on here, but how do I get rid of that lingering pale blue line?  I can't figure out what's controlling it.

Which one? Would you mark it with different color?

Good to know, thanks.  I can get the order sorted out with the dummy skin, I figure.

I'm talking about the line that's keeping the tab from blending with the toolbar.

Probably that's bdr value of Panel.Body.Default element.

I'm stumped again.  How do I change the highlight color for the Refresh and Configure Layout buttons in the toolbar?  I can get the custom buttons the color I want, just not the built-in ones.  I have Panel.HeaderButtonOverride.Hightlight set, but that's not doing it.

I have Panel.HeaderButtonOverride.Hightlight set, but that's not doing it.

I don't think it's currently possible.  If I remember correctly, Panel.HeaderButtonOverride.Hightlight bg="" was proposed for this but hasn't been implemented yet.

NB. I can't find that thread, but I do recall it was this comment (http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=7495.msg43372#msg43372) by Steven that triggered the discussion.

Zokay, I'm stumped again.  How do I fill in the line between the "LibraryExplorer" header and the bar showing the categories?

Also, is it possible to skin that bar separately from the Playing Track panel, or are they always linked?

You can't. That's bg color of left navigator.

Also, is it possible to skin that bar separately from the Playing Track panel, or are they always linked?

I don't think there are overrides for that. For overrides, look at this thread:

There are two lines, these determine them:

<element id="Panel.Body.Default" bg="255,0,0" fg="15,15,0" bdr="216,216,216" />
<element id="Panel.TabSelector.Default" bg="0,255,0" fg="75,75,75" bdr="0,0,255" />

As you can see used 1x red, 1x blue, 1x green for this example. This shows there is quite some 'sharing' going on:

I'll ask here before submitting another request.  Is there any way to override this line under the tabs, which seems to be tied to bg on TabsBar.Tab.Highlight?  (Also, the similar line in Track Details tabs.)

I thought that's what TabsBar.JoinLine referred to, but I guess not. (Oh, it's directly above TabsBar.JoinLine.)

And what does TabsBar.DropCursor do, anyway?

I don't think there's a override for that.

If you're interested, here's a preview of what I'll call Scamelon 2.0.

https://www.box.com/s/qksnmpy5sb6ycatsp8gl

It's a much more drastic revision of Bee-liever's version than I planned, thanks to my breaking it and merging it with the dummy skin to fix it (you'll still see vestiges of the dummy skin in some places - I'll get to those) and flailing around trying to figure out which piece goes where.  But the major changes are the reduction/unification of the color scheme and a similar treatment to the gradients.

I don't promise it'll look very good with any layout other than mine yet.  (Don't mind the pink font - that's a highlighting thing.)

(http://i.imgur.com/0hOqEyG.png?1) (http://imgur.com/0hOqEyG)

Any advice/suggestions on how to make the tabs in the Track Details panel work well, or how to get a light border all the way around the sidebars without also introducing a line across the top of the toolbar?

Thanks scampbll, but the credit goes to BinghiFire.
He did all the hard work creating the images and layout for the player, I just tweaked the settings a bit and compiled it through the Skin Creator.

It was fun doing this skin - a real community effort  :)

I like the idea of posting a splash screen alongside screenshots of the skin.
And especially this one is very original.

Well done  :)

Can anybody advise me on what's up with my Preferences border?  The normal window border is fine.  I checked the default skin and Darknight Blue, and those look okay, so it must be my skin.

Here's the current file, if it helps: https://www.box.com/s/kjvb2fxbeshh1eo9b1np

Edit: now it's fine, and I'm not sure what I changed.  It had been doing that for a while.  I'll keep an eye on it.

Can anybody advise me on what's up with my Preferences border?

using a base64 decoder, it advises that the following are not in a valid base64 format
FormBorderBottom
FormBorderLeft
FormBorderRight

It's possible that when you've split those lines into 76 character lengths you may have introduced a stray spacing character
Title: Re: Scamelon
Post by: psychoadept on May 07, 2013, 12:08:16 AM
Since I've done the whole base64 thing by trial and error, I'd buy that.  :)  Thanks!

If it happens again, I'll take a closer look.

Edit, unrelated: Bee-liever, could I trouble you for the re-colored melons image without the splash screen stuff on top?  I had a little idea I want to try out...
