Let's start it off with something music related. What music are you listening to that has been released this year?
-
Had to have a look through my library as I really couldn't think of anything off hand. Turns out I've got two albums from this year:
Amok by Atoms for Peace which I've only listened to once. Can't say it really inspired me, but as a friend gave it to me, that's not a problem,
The World is Yours by The Union which is a much better album in every way. Been one of my favourite bands for the last few years and so I'm very pleased that this album holds its own. Not even bothered by the £25 cost of the Deluxe Edition.

Yay! New Forum!
This year has been weird so far, the only albums I've listened to have been old bands/singers coming back and disappointing me mostly.
Bowie - The Next Day
Suede - Bloodsports
My Bloody Valentine - M B V
None of them are actually bad albums, but they all just sound a bit weak and tired I think.
Edit: Actually I love the Bowie album, it's got so many tracks on it though it's a long listen.
-
A short list of albums that have piqued my interest:
Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience
Bilai - A Love Surreal
My Bloody Valentine - mbv
Rhye - Woman
Soilwork - The Living Infinite
Infinite H - FLY HIGH [EP]
A$AP Rocky - LONG.LIVE.A$AP
Mazes - Ores and Minerals
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Push the Sky Away
eels - Wonderful, Glorious
I have plenty more than that from this year, but those are albums I have tended to return to more than other albums this year.
Never heard of The Union, it sounds like a good album.
-
I haven't seen a great deal so far this year that has grabbed my attention. So far I've liked:
Benoit Delbecq & Fred Hersch Double Trio - Fun House
Biome - Spawned EP
Kryptic Minds - Namaste EP
Céline Bonacina Trio - Open Heart
How To Destroy Angels - Welcome Oblivion
Objekt and Cosmin TRG - BLPGRN 002
Also listened to the Atoms For Peace album but it didn't excite me particularly, need to listen to it a few more times though.
-
Just a few
some good - some disappointing
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds - Push The Sky Away
The Mavericks - In Time
Jill Barber - Chansons
Delphic - Collections
Eels - Wonderful, Glorious
Olafur Arnalds - For Now I Am Winter
-
Good Music Year so far....
David Bowie - The Next Day
Suede - Bloodsports - very very good release!
Soilwork - The Living Infinite
Atoms for Peace - Amok
Northlane - Singularity
Soap&Skin - Sugarbread (EP)
Olafur Arnalds - For Now I Am Winter

Just 2 albums for now but both exceptional pieces:
* Steven Wilson's "The Raven that Refused to Sing" (for anyone who doesn't know Steven Wilson he's basicly God in the modern progressive rock scene)
* Arco's Angel's "Life's Love Loss". Bought a few minutes after release just yesterday. It's a side project of 2 of the members of Hurt (J Loren is on vocals). Everyone who's into rock should DEFINITELY check out Hurt especially their older albums Vol. I & Vol. II but their newer material is extremely good as well. Easily my favourite rock band ever :)
-
I'm thinking just Armin van Buuren's ASOT 2013. Pretty good too.
Definitely checking out some of the other albums mentioned in here though.
-
I'm saddened to say that I'm yet to find a 2013 release that's epic. My most recent purchase was Two Gallants - The Bloom and the Blight but that's a 2012 release.

The Knife - Shaking The Habitual
Absolutely incredible.

I've heard loads of talk about this. It led me to download Fever Ray's album which I didn't like all too much. I'll try the the new Knife Release sometime

If her voice wasn't so unusual you would probably never notice that it's the same person and the music sounds nothing like that.

I just heard this, I was genuinely surprised. Pretty great. Hopefully it holds up over time.
-
Just listening to 'Barrow - Though I'm Alone' (screamo/post hardcore)
and it's pretty good

At this moment, most of us have heard about Get lucky from Daft Punk, and their different remixes remembering Michael Jackson and disco music from the 70's. Well i'm listening the album and i feel it's really good. Moog, synthetizers, good atmosphere, easy listening with low BPM's and gives a pump up to your mood. Giorgio by Moroder is one of my favourites: http://lifeinterribletimes.tumblr.com/post/50370563890/giorgio-by-moroder-daft-punk-lluf Recommended!

Progressive Metal 2013. This is what my Summer is going to sound like...
Tesseract- Altered State (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9KI-3odwSc&list=PLhxNJg-WOMaMpNTyViOxdE2oDCpcK6vxk) [Gentle composition (for metal). Clean vocals. Polyrhythms!]
Pomegranate Tiger - Entities (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnhX-bjZfCQ) [Heavy instrumental with progressive undertones.]
Scale The Summit - The Migration (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXpq6XZDRBI&list=PLwQ7-nQRGOmEz8lWU8Di1DEiAqvrsR4jv) [Melodic instrumental]
Intronaut - Habitual Levitations (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmK1XUI9VQc) [Clean spacey vocals and plodding, laidback riffs.]
I'm going to include one from 2011 which I only discovered a couple of days ago, because my summer is definitely going to include this:
Uneven Structure - Februus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbLz5lNcHi0) [Some harsh vocals. A hypnotising concept album.]
-
Eminem - MMLP2
I'm just giving it a spin and I can't decide on it. I think it it's pretty decent though
-

-
Youngblood Hawke - Wake up. Is probably not the coolest album of the year but definitely the most fun.
-

Just found this album by Persefone. A beautiful and stunning masterpiece if you like metal and are able to tolerate screamed vocals:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upv6_4WT6hY
I also recently discovered a really nice feel-good, unknown 'Metal' band called Mandroid Echostar (clean vocals).
They've put out two great EPs:
The first EP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyHJ3HoH1Hk
The second EP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZsUbH8G6Go
There's some nice live footage and a guitar playthrough on YouTube too, where you can clearly see how much they enjoy playing.

I really like what I'm hearing so far. Thanks for sharing!
They slightly remind me of Coheed and Cambria, definitely a keeper.
