Title: One Line to One Album in Library view
Post by: BeeBeeKing on March 15, 2013, 05:16:55 AM
Just hoping you may be able to develop a view that gives one line to one album in library view, obviously no artwork and the abilitly to expand and collapse the tracks as required. Discussed over here http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=9146.0

thank you.

+1, was thinking about it as well:)

+1  I especially think the ability to collapse an album after you've expanded it is an important feature.

I got something 'similar' using a smart playlist, but it has mistakes and you need to have your collection perfectly tagged. This is how it looks:

It would be nice to have something like this as an alternative view!

falling on deaf ears in both topics is my impression.
Pity.

@ bluesbeat
I don't think you'll find it's falling on deaf ears.
It's more likely that Steven is focused on getting the 'flat' compact player working right at the moment, which was based on a 'wish' pre-September, 2012.
With only one developer, sometimes these things take time.

I can't stand posts like this. Just don't post at all if the only comment you have is something like this please

My last post was removed .

Nevertheless, this would be a worthwhile feature if it was implemented at some stage, and glad to see that there is some support for it.

@bluesbeat:

I can understand, probably like many other users, how you felt about that. Ironically, I think, it's because MB is SO good to the degree that any comparison with other apps is almost meaningless. Hence once you notice a lack of "essential" feature or a "blemish" then it's hard to stand it because that's just standing out to you every time you run MB. But if you look at any period of time, it's become apparent that Steven's been really working hard as always, i.e. have a look at the endless feature list in each beta version. So whenever I feel bad about this kind of thing, I'm talking to myself: "Don't get greedy!"

i have already started this feature but its probably a couple of weeks away from being done

I was being a little self indulgent, I fear. I am very appreciative of Steven's efforts thus far, and have recommended MB to most of my friends.
And in the post above he has just confirmed he's on to it already......how good is that.

Thank you Steven

Yes excellent news. Just please remember to remain courteous to Steven. It must be frustrating to read posts that are negative in an non-constructive way especially when you work as hard on a project as he does.

with the new compact player taking much longer than i was planning i've decided to leave this request out of the current release. I apologise for setting your expectations that it would be included sooner. I still plan to do it though as i am already 3/4 the way through doing it, but i would expect that to be at least a couple of months off

this is done now for the next v2.2 update.
Its implemented in the Grouping menu (right click on the column header/ Group By/ Consolidate Albums)
when enabled:
- the album tracks are consolidated to one file
- when consolidated, some track specific fields will display blank eg. title, track number, etc
- other fields will be agggregated for the album eg. rating, time
- the album can be expanded/ collapsed to show/ hide all the tracks
- it only applies to the Track Details layout

I will make it available after some testing, maybe in the next couple of days

Playing with this now and it looks good.

Couple of early notes.

1. The time column for a collapsed album shows the total running time for the entire album. It would be logical for the size column to show the total size of all tracks on the album.

2. Unless the bitrate for all tracks on an album is the same, the bitrate column might more accurately show "-" instead of using the value from the first track.

With "Consolidate albums" enabled, trying to display the artwork column causes the following error:

thanks iasc, I think i get a little lazy and don't change my views very often, therefore I forget where to do it...found it now and will have a little play. So If I get my columns how I want them in tracks view, when i go back to album & tracks view will my columns revert to how they were originally set?

they will stay the way you had them set when last using the track details view

thanks again.
One last question: is there a skin that will allow alternate shading for each album in this consolidated track view? Would be easier to read.

Nothing special. After turning off the artwork column and enabling "Consolidate albums" I just selected "Artwork" again from the "Other Fields" menu.

Also, if MusicBee is closed down in this state it isn't possible to restart it. It just displays this error:

I can reproduce Zak's bug in the exact way he described. Additionally, is it intended that the group by menu item is hidden until the artwork field is removed from the columns? (Terribly expressed, but hopefully you get the idea)
Title: Re: One Line to One Album in Library view

artwork is not supported in when grouping and/ or album consolidation is enabled. It would take some effort to enable it and it just doesnt seem that important of a thing to do for these options.
I will make sure you cant select the artwork - it should already have been the case but seems i havent covered all cases
Title: Re: One Line to One Album in Library view
Post by: Steven on July 01, 2013, 06:38:48 PM
this should properly disable artwork when albums are consolidated.
Also i have made file size accumulate for collapsed albums and various other track level fields now display "-" when the album is collapsed:

http://musicbee.niblseed.com/V2_2/MusicBee_Exe_Patched.zip

Note you should update to this version as yesterday's had a endless loop bug with lyrics in certain cases

.............and various other track level fields now display "-" when the album is collapsed:

I am wondering about this, surely if the information is the same in each track of a tag then the the information should be displayed when collapsed as well?
the second build has taken a lot of this away. I notice the genre field behaves like this but the comments field does not. Most of my albums have the same comments in each track of the album so I would like that it display comments when collapsed.
Maybe this is just an oversight.
Thanks for implementing this anyway Steven.

i have made a change so that fields classed as "track level" eg. bitrate, comments, sample rate etc are displayed if all the files in the album have the same value:
