Title: Logitech SetPoint players.ini cfg for MusicBee
Post by: andrea.ippo on March 03, 2013, 06:37:50 PM
I've fallen victim (as a lot of people out there) of Logitech's SetPoint weird support of media players concerning alternative media players.
In fact, after updating to the last version of SetPoint, I am no more able to send play/pause, next, prev commands to MusicBee unless MB's window has focus, whereas before updating SetPoint I could control MB even when it was in background.
Needless to say, I tried reverting to the previous version of SetPoint, but it didn't help.

So, after spending an afternoon googling a solution (and convincing myself I'll never buy Logitech HW ever again), I'm asking for help hoping that someone has had the same problem and found a solution.
I understand that alternative media players can be configured in the players.ini cfg file in SetPoint's installation folder, but I couldn't find a working configuration.

Just as an example, this is the cfg for WMP9, and according to some other forums' users, you can control additional media player running in background by adding the right string:
#List of supported players
#{btn|key|msg|emg|cmd|wac},exeName,wndClass,wndCaption,xxx,play_delayplay,pause,stop,prev,next,remove_flags,ShowOSD,menu_item
#special char --> ^ ctrl;+ shift+ctrl; $ ctrl (no translation); * alt (no translation); @ ctrl+alt (no tanslation); & (no translation)
MSMedia9=wac,wmplayer.exe,WMPlayerApp,Windows Media Player,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,xxx,0,1,Windows Media Player 9

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks :)

Do the media keys work as supposed to when you disable SetPoint?

Actually it's for a mouse (M705), I forgot to mention it.
If I kill the setpoint process, the extra mouse buttons don't do nothing at all, even if MB has focus, so setpoint has to be running for sure.
By the way, until a few days ago it was working, just before the version update (a rollback didn't help though).

What buttons on the mouse do you use to send the play/pause etc commands?

I use the one under the thumb to send P/P, and the two on the side for previous/next. The scroll wheel movement to the left/right is set to navigate back/forward, I use it mainly for the browser and explorer, almost no use for MB (at least for how I use it).

EDIT: SOLVED! I just went back to version 6.32 found here: http://www.oldapps.com/setpoint.php
Now the buttons are finally global again in MB!

I don't know if this will help you but have a look at this http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm
It's like a meaner and leaner alternative to setpoint. It does however rely on windows hid driver and afaik won't support thumb button on m705.

Or use a keyboard shortcut instead. I find it surprising that you have decided to dedicate some mouse buttons for playback control. I find it much more useful to use the scroll wheel left/right to switch tabs in the browser. But I guess it's a matter of preference.

EDIT: glad you solved your problem. Nevertheless i recommend you give XMBC a try. Take a look at some of the presets (http://forums.highrez.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=898) to give you an idea what you can achieve with it.

Thanks, I'm going to try it right now!
Do you know if I could achieve something like right click + scroll wheel up/down to change the volume?

Post by: mikebo on March 06, 2013, 09:23:26 PM
No, that's not possible.
You however can make scrolling on notification area change the volume, which is imo even better. Download these rules (https://www.dropbox.com/s/dyhesqp39bfw7o9/xbmc_rules.zip?m) and add them to xbmc. They will make scrolling adjust volume and mute on middle click.
If you want you can set middle click to play/pause MB and forward/back buttons to change tracks.

It's pretty awesome i know :)

EDIT: You may want to disable aero peek when using above tweaks. To do that simply right-click the 'Show desktop' button and uncheck 'Peek at desktop'

A post I made some time ago on this topic might be of some help as well:

Thank you for the tip.  This rollback of the mouse driver solved all my problems.  I was getting ready to ditch musicbee as my main music player but this remedy changed my mind. :D

This is an old thread, but I found adding the following line to the [Players] section of Players.ini allows the multimedia keys to work properly for MusicBee, even when not focused, when using the latest SetPoint drivers. Restart SetPoint after making this change.

MusicBee=key,MusicBee.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.2bf8098_r11_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee

You'll need the default multimedia hotkeys defined in MusicBee as global keys.

My config:
SetPoint 6.61.15
MusicBee 2.4.5233
Keyboard: Logitech Wave Corded

I updated to the latest version of Setpoint, tried adding the line;

"MusicBee=key,MusicBee.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.2bf8098_r11_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee"

to the last players.ini cfg file (I had to actually copy the players.ini file to my desktop, add the line, save it - running as administrator - and then copy it back and overwrite as editing within the Setpoint folder wasn't allowing the save, anyway i double and triple checked and the changes to the file are now there in the Setpoint folder, but I digress....). I added the line above as a new entry in the list/file, was this correct? Below is my c/p of the file;

I am having the same issue.  Any resolutions to this?  Tried adding the last line to player.ini for SetPoint.  Keys are still not global.  The keys for the Logitech keyboard will work with MusicBee is focused, but will not work with some other program has focus.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what the problem is. The players.ini looks ok. Make sure you restart SetPoint (or reboot) to ensure you are getting the changed file.

The other part to the puzzle is the MusicBee configuration.

You could try the following:
1. Temporarily rename %appdata%\MusicBee. When you restart MusicBee you will get a default configuration. See if it works now. If this works, the problem was how the keys are configured in MusicBee.
2. Right click on SetPoint and click Exit to shut it down. See if the keys work in MusicBee without SetPoint running. If it still doesn't work, then this also points to a MusicBee configuration problem, or just something different about your hardware/software combination.

I was having the exact same issue and did what BruceBanner did - added MusicBee to .ini file. It didn't seem to work at first - also had trouble saving the file.  Worked fine after that was resolved.  However, now I am having a very strange issue: MusicBee when first opened will not respond to the media keys if it is unfocused - but only for that one time.  If I then focus Musicbee and use a media key, they work at that time and continue to work thereafter - whether or not MusicBee is focused (although I did just notice they don't work if the Edit Preferences Window is open).  Running Logitech Setpoint 6.65.62, Windows 7 64-bit, all settings in MusicBee re: global media hotkeys appear correct.   ???

Greetings all,

I am not sure if anyone has tried this version but I have not had an issue since I had replaced my Logitech Illuminated Wired Keyboard (Model: Y-UY95) with the same model. The application loads when I hit the button and the controls (i.e. play, pause, next/previous track) all work like a charm, even with other windows up and targeted. I don't know if anyone is willing to try this to see if it will work but in my setpoint window I have the following:

Control Center Version: 4.80.103

Driver Version: 4.82.11 (64 Bit/Win 7)

MusicBee Version: 2.4.5270

Hopefully, this will help someone. :) Because this version looks quite old, I would like to point out that it may not work with some of these newer devices, though my specific keyboard model has been out since 2008.

MusicBee=key,MusicBee.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.2bf8098_r11_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee

worked great for me (K400 keyboard)

As noted above, I saved a copy of  setpoint.ini file to desktop, inserted the string, then dragged it into the setpoint folder replacing the older player.ini file.
Then restarted my computer.  (Whether or not that was necessary)

I used same string as others:  MusicBee=key,MusicBee.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.2bf8098_r11_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee

  Issue:  As noted above though, I am having the issue where the commands only work if MusicBee is NOTin focus.

Using windows 8.1
Setpoint 6.65.62
Logitech  performance MX mouse
Logitech k800 Keyboard
MusicBee version 2.5.5532

Well, using the  new Logitech MX Master and the  Logitech Setting software seems to accommodate MusicBee, so problem resolved.

Actually... that is if I do not try to customize the media keys.  Manually assigning any button to do MusicBee related stuff, results in the same problems reported on this thread.

This is an old thread, but I found adding the following line to the [Players] section of Players.ini allows the multimedia keys to work properly for MusicBee, even when not focused, when using the latest SetPoint drivers. Restart SetPoint after making this change.

MusicBee=key,MusicBee.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.2bf8098_r11_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee

You'll need the default multimedia hotkeys defined in MusicBee as global keys.

My config:
SetPoint 6.61.15
MusicBee 2.4.5233
Keyboard: Logitech Wave Corded

Did this on Windows 10 64bit and it worked perfectly
Setpoint 6.67.82
Musicbee 2.4.5349

Exited Setpoint opened the Players.ini file with notepad, added the line after [Players].

MusicBee=key,MusicBee.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.2bf8098_r11_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee

Saved and restarted setpoint, all working.

Ok well the above worked but Setpoint still behaves a little deranged in general with all other media players and also loses focus often with Musicbee.

The real solution?
Don't use Setpoint above this version:
Setpoint 6.32.7
Musicbee 5.33.14

Thats the last setpoint version that works as you expect it to on all media players, tested and working on Windows 64Bit 7 & 10. You need to hunt it down on google, there are still a few sites that still have it listed, I found it on x-drivers.ru , a bit dodgy looking site all in Russian but the driver I downloaded has been working for years!

I agree that using an older version seems to work. But that older software doesn't show my newer mouse, and so makes it all a bit useless anyway. The only real reason I need the software in the first place is to be able to configure the mouse buttons. So if it doesn't show up in the software, it makes it pointless for me.

I have tried the player.ini edit, but that doesn't seem to work. Curiously in other software, like the Windows 10 Audible app, the media keys work fine, showing a little Windows 10 popup.

Does anyone know how to make this work with Musicbee 3.0?

just as a guess:
MusicBee=key,MusicBee3.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.34f5582_r15_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee3

Sadly that did not work.

It looks like the Window Class name changed in some newer versions of 2.x as well as in 3.x. Please try the following (replace any previous entries, and you can keep both of the below lines in at the same time):

MusicBee=key,MusicBee.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.141b42a_r10_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee
MusicBee3=key,MusicBee3.exe,WindowsForms10.Window.8.app.0.34f5582_r10_ad1,xxx,xxx,&0xB3,&0xB3,&0xB2,&0xB1,&0xB0,0,1,MusicBee

I use a utility called WinLister to get the Window Class name.

this works with musicbee 3 but it "loses" the connection to musicbee quite often.

The two lines above from Haggis70 did the trick. There is an issue however. When Synergy is running (I share my mouse and keyboard between two computers) and I am on the client computer (not the one running MusicBee), the multimedia keys are not working. I do see the SetPoint Play/Pause, Next, Prev popup on the host machine but MusicBee is not "reading" it to act upon it. Windows Media Player works fine with the multimedia keys from the client computer. Any ideas?

I think I've found a lasting solution for the problem (credits to garymartynuk @ github)

This mod works by completely disabling SetPoint's handling of a chosen media key and letting Windows handle the input. For me it works flawlessly (MusicBee v3.1.6512 / Windows 10 x64 1709).

First of all you'll need to quit SetPoint and find your keyboard's configuration file. Go to C:\ProgramData\Logishrd\SetPointP\Devices\Keyboard.
In there you will see a bunch of folders, each containing an *.xml configuration file for your keyboard. There are a lot of folders (67),
so finding the right one might take some time, but it's worth it. I guess u could accelerate your search by opening SetPoint keyboard settings, modifying a keyboard key and saving the file. Then u could search for an *.xml file in windows and sorting the search results by modified date. The file you are looking for will contain the name of you keyboard in the beginning of the file (u can open/edit them with notepad).

I have a Logitech® Wireless Keyboard K360 and here's what the right file (2001001.xml) for me looks like in the beginning:

Code
<Device DisplayName="Wireless Keyboard K360" Class="KeyboardDevice" Model="33558529" NumberOfButtons="18">

Once u are sure u've found the right file MAKE A BACKUP IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG!

Press CTRL+F on your keyboard and search for HandlerSet="MM PREVIOUS_REWIND", HandlerSet="MM PLAY" or HandlerSet="MM NEXT_FF"

Each of these will be nested under a <Button> tag. It should look something like this:

Code

<Button Number="786614" Name="Button">
  <Trigger Class="ButtonPress">
    <Param Button="786614" EventType="33554432"/>
      <TriggerState Name="ButtonDownUp" HandlerSet="MM PREVIOUS_REWIND" HandlerSetGroup="SmrkndPreviousRewindTrackKbMs" HandlerSetGroupAddOn="SmrkndOtherKeyboard"/>
  </Trigger>
</Button>

You can "disable" each button by commenting out the corresponding <Button> tag. To disable the previous track button u comment out its tag like so:

Code

<!--
<Button Number="786614" Name="Button">
  <Trigger Class="ButtonPress">
    <Param Button="786614" EventType="33554432"/>
      <TriggerState Name="ButtonDownUp" HandlerSet="MM PREVIOUS_REWIND" HandlerSetGroup="SmrkndPreviousRewindTrackKbMs" HandlerSetGroupAddOn="SmrkndOtherKeyboard"/>
  </Trigger>
</Button>
-->

Basically, u add "<!-- " in front of <Button>  and add "-->" after </Button>. Without the quotes of course. Do this for each key you want to "disable" (Play/Next etc). Disabling the keys this was lets windows handle the media key input, they work great in MusicBee and should continue working even after a MusicBee update.

Save the file, start SetPoint and enjoy your music with MusicBee =]
