Title: Tron Punk skin
Post by: jistme on November 14, 2012, 10:42:39 PM
A daft neon punk bee skin:

(http://i.imgur.com/jfPf5l.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/jfPf5.png)

download Tron Punk v2.x (http://bit.ly/Tron_Punk_2x)

download Tron Punk v3.x (http://bit.ly/Tron_Punk_3x)

Added a version without Recognizer for the younger and/or illiterate generation (Tron Punk unrecognized)

So this:
(http://i.imgur.com/8BmMqBWl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/8BmMqBW.png)

instead of this:
(http://i.imgur.com/cDWyU3xl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/cDWyU3x.png)

I added the font displayed in the track info panel from the screenshot to the download folder.
(Murder of Mayday Light up till font size 16 works nicely)

-----------

update Jan 2016:

There are now two different download links:

- Skin version 2.x which is compatible with MusicBee v2.x releases.
This one is final and will be no longer maintained.

- Skin version 3.x which is only compatible with MusicBee v3.x releases.

Please feel free to comment, be it good or bad.

Very cool.  Nice work!

One small fix:  In album and tracks view if album rating is displayed I'm still getting a 'Greeny'.  Hope that makes sense...?

Really nice work jistme!

Love that aqua green you used. And that splash screen!!!! (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-signs130.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)
The whole skin has got that neon vibe.

If I could make one little constructive suggestion.

<element id="Panel.ChildHeader.Default" bg="?,?,?" fg="0,0,0" bdr="?,?,?" />

the fg might need to go to "5,43,41" or "9,64,60". The black is really hard to see on "Track Information"

Hi Jistme,
Cannot find a file to download upon clicking your link.

Do you get to see the Spideroak page at all?
Then, do you see a folder icon with 'Tron Punk Skin' on the left, and a 'download' button on the right?
Title: Re: Tron Punk skin
Post by: redwing on November 15, 2012, 11:07:37 AM
Now I can see the file. In my previous attempts, I could see only a two-thirds of the company's logo.

Very nice! Very futuristic! I like this.

But here's another one. Main player's display looks empty though I can see title and artist in compact and mini player mode. Any ideas?

I think that's an issue that was addressed recently by Steven, but seems to roar it's ugly head again...
Do you have selected a custom font for the player control panel?
If so, when you deselect that and use the default font, will it then show the text correctly?

Post by: redwing on November 15, 2012, 11:26:30 AM
No, I'm using the default Segoe UI, 9.75 pt for main player. I just tried Tahoma and Verdana only to see the same result.
What font are you using? I will try and let you know if that's working.

Wow! Really nice! It comes at time for listening and rating my new albums from Thomas Bergersen and Two Steps from Hell :)))

I like a lot the border of the panel in the player controls
The button in the seek bar is a very good point :D
The tabs at caption looks very good knowing you don't use them there.

Thanks for your time you invested here Jistme!!

Tahoma 9 is working o.k. here.
Do you have Microsoft's cleartype disabled? (like I have)
That might also have some effect.

I couldn't have done it without your dummy smartskin!
I hesitated a little bit about the progress icon, thought it might be just a little bit 'too much' ;-)

And congrats on your well deserved Hero status!

My player control panel doesn't show me the now playing track title when I choose top or bottom pane, only when I choose left or right. When set to top or bottom the screen appears black, whichever font type or size I choose. I'm using MusicBee portable 2.0.4663.

I really dig this skin, any idea how to fix this?
Title: Re: Tron Punk skin
Post by: jistme on April 13, 2013, 12:02:50 PM
The problem with displaying larger and/or italic fonts is known and confirmed, and to my regret is not something I can do anything about.
But not showing text at all in the info panel is new to me and has not been reported before.

I ran over the skin file again, and tweaked some minor things for the info panel, but I don't really expect it to help with your problem.
But you might try it anyway.
Is your portable version the most recent one? (I'm not familiar with the portable versions)

If this makes no difference you could post it as a bug report.

Yes, I'm using the latest portable version. Will try again and I'll report the bug in case it doesn't work. Anyway, I think it might be related to my MusicBee's layout configuration; I'll look into it.

Thank you for your trouble.

It has nothing to do with portable version. To run this skin, you will need to update your MB to the latest beta:

That is truly awesome! Not really a huge fan of Tron so much, but I've always really loved the style & colors of Tron stuff, so of course I love this, but also, it's really put together well & has the right contrast & it's minimal, without being too minimal, boring or oversimplified. It's a great skin!!!

The Tron Punk skin (that I once created under an old alias), has been updated.
The download link for this skin has been updated in the starting post of this topic.

Changed:
Under MusicBee v2.x it was not behaving very well with custom font types and sizes for the player info panel.
That should now have been vastly improved, and the skin is now also up to date for 'MusicBee v3demo'
(which is in development and in alpha stage at this moment of writing)

Please feel free to comment, be it good or bad.

Update:

There are now two versions of this skin.

- A version for MusicBee v2.x, which is is final and won't be maintained anymore.

- An updated version for MusicBee v3.x only.

What is the purpose of Tron Punk Unrecognized.xmlc which is in both versions?   And is it necessary?
If I rename the two skins to Tron Punk 2.x  and to Tron Punk 3.x and leave them in the 'dark' subfolder, will having just one Unrecognized along with them cause a problem?

'Tron Punk Unrecognized' is identical to 'Tron Punk', except for a different track-progress button.

There are heretics who don't know what a Recognizer (http://bit.ly/Recognizer) is, and don't appreciate it in the skin.

I'm new to the forum  but I have a question about Tron Punk I like the skin you have done a nice Job

When in main panel and I select a song the selected song change color and I can see what I have selected but if that song is part of a complete album which I Highlight it does not override the Highlight color so I cannot tell witch ones  I have selected other skins change the background of the selection or is there something that I'm doing wrong I have tried a couple of Highlight colors

Thanks for the great skin

Thnx for the appreciation Greghick

I don't quite understand what you are saying. What view are you using in the main panel?
How could you select both a track, and the album at the same time? Or do you mean MB's option of highlighting a playing track?
Please explain a bit more, or perhaps make a screenshot, or name a skin that does what you like.

OKay I will try

album Ultra Rare Trax Volume 2 is not selected (normal color )

Album Ultra Rare Trax Volume 5 is selected  (Colored Per Selection)

Album With the Beatles   Track All tracks are green because the album is complete and is green do to my highlight rules

I had a look at it, and I can see the issue there.
It will happen if you selected an alternative text color for highlight rules.
Yet, if I change the highlight background color there, it will also change in other panels and when an alternative text color for highlight rules is not used.
In those cases I feel a change is not so nice and not an improvement. So I decided not to change the skin.

But for you and others that prefer this highlighting, I made an edited version that has the change:

Hmm, that's the second report on issues with Microsoft Onedrive in a short while.
Doing some searching, it seems that some users of FireFox are experiencing problems with MS certificates currently.

Is it possible for you to try another browser to see if that's the case?
Let me know if it's not.

(and make sure FF is up-to date if you use it)

Hello, sorry if I'm resurrecting this topic.

I would like to swap the controls in the bottom left and right corner of the skin, after taking a quick look at this page http://musicbee.wikia.com/wiki/Skinning_Guide I tried to open the skin file, which extension is .xmlc. Browsing the internet I've been led to believe that I need ASP.NET to open said extension. Is it correct? I've tried to download MS Visual Studio and install the ASP.NET package but that's a wooping 6GB download, so before proceeding I thought to ask here if anyone could confirm that that is the only way to open the skin file and modify it to achieve the result I desire.

Or maybe you have set the player panel to display the wave bar instead of the progress bar?

Many subtle changes. Most noticeable will be the use of gradients in headerbars.
Be sure to keep your old Tron Punk skin file in case you don't like the new design.

hey bro i can't edit the xmlc file so i'm stuck with the nature of the skin as you give it out

is there any way you can share the actual xml file?

The xml will not look anything like the compiled xmlc file. The xmlc contains bitmapped images which aren't part of the xml.

I'm sorry, this cannot be changed or improved by editing the skin.

There are a couple of places where MusicBee automatically applies a lower contrast to texts.
It occurs in e.g. the Thumbnail Browser, Mini Player, Extended Panel, and a couple of other places.

Indeed for some skins the current amount of lowering the contrast will result in a bad readability of the text.
I am pretty sure in the past I posted some wishes and screenshots on the matter, so I am hoping perhaps this will be addressed some day.

That small text does use fg2 if its set. However if you do set that, I can't say with certainty whether fg2 is used elsewhere.
To localise fg2 usage you could also use the FilterPanel overrides eg. FilterPanel.ListHeader, FilterPanel.Default etc

That small text does use fg2

Indeed. I stand corrected.
It looks like I may have not set the values for those elements manually for Tron Punk, so it now gets some auto-adjusted colour.

@logscan122333, I'll review the colour/brightness of those elements and will probably post an updated version tomorrow.

If there are things you would like to do yourself, check this:

i'm trying to edit the color of the "x tracks" text because it doesn't show up at all on monitors that have a certain alpha/gamma at a certain point (it's too dark on a black background) and obv its small too

I've updated the skin so the small text is a bit brighter now.
(the size is not adjustable by skinning)

updated

Main changes:
- The Jukebox view is skinned.
- The readability/contrast of sub-text fields in 'Album and Tracks' view and in the Expanded Album panel is improved.

note: both these updates only function under MusicBee 3.4
(which is currently under development and in alpha release state)
