Title: Sub-genre organisation?
Post by: Doc on July 30, 2012, 08:15:28 AM
Hi Steven,

I wonder if this can already be done in some way that I haven't thought of but... is there a way of organising genres together? For example, within the Black Metal genre, there are a number of sub-genres, such as Melodic Black Metal, Experimental Black Metal, Raw Black Metal etc. This follows in a lot of metal & rock sub-genres, and I'm sure in other styles of music as well. However they are all still Black Metal. Is there a way of having a genre tag or similar, so I can assign a particular genre to this tag? In this way rather than having;

Genre
 - Black Metal
 - Experimental Black Metal
 - Melodic Black Metal
 - Raw Black Metal

It could also be sorted like;

Genre
 - ALL BLACK METAL (tag)
   -- Black Metal
   -- Experimental Black Metal
   -- Melodic Black Metal
   -- Raw Black Metal

Thanks for an awesome program!

thats what the Genre Categories tag does. See the Tags(2) preferences to configure the genre groupings

i've redone the editor for the genre-category mapping in the preferences so its a lot easier to use now.

Brilliant! That makes it so much easier to work with (I was editing the config file manually because it was faster than the older dialog). Great work.
