Title: A Brighter Bee
Post by: SimonBRT on July 04, 2012, 11:19:28 PM
EDIT: 30 Mar 2013 - Minor update.  Improved Auto-DJ screen and updated the wavebar colours.

EDIT: 07 Dec 2012 - Fixed spectrum colours.  Changes to left-side panel.  Some minor fixes.  Attempting to reduce amount of grey panels.

EDIT: 28 Oct 2012 New (non-flat) player bar.  Inspired/copied from Mikebo's work on Midnight/Calcium.  Credit once again to your creativity.  Also improved now-playing pop-up.  Removed alternating row lines.

EDIT: 29 Aug 2012 New version up, minor tweaks and better use of new tab in menu bar elements.

EDIT: 11 Jul 2012
Re-worked/tweaked almost everything in this from the original version I posted.  Version 2 is much better looking and far more polished.  Have used the icon set from Mikebo's Dawn skin - hope this is OK!  Let me know if not...

ORIGINAL POST:
Finally decided to give my own skin a go.  Based on the Default skin source Steven recently uploaded.  The default skin and Dawn have been my favourite skins for a long time now so this really just combines my favourite elements from both.  No radical changes, if its not broke don't fix it!  Thanks Mikebo for all the great work on your skins and also to lnminente for his dummy skin (without which I would never have attempted any skinning!).

Any feedback/suggestions welcome...

P.S. If anyone knows how to fix the gradient not showing on the highlight over the stars column (shown below) that would be awesome!

<element id="Content[TrackDetail].Body.Highlight" bg="255,245,63" bg2="255,245,63" bdr="227,216,152" fg="0,0,0" />

(make 'bg' and 'bg2' have the same value)

thanks for the help jistme, however this removes the colour gradient from the whole of the selected track which I don't want to do.  I want to add the same gradient on the section behind the stars...

<element id="Panel.StarRating.Highlight" bg="255,245,63" bg2="255,230,48" fg="50,50,50" fg2="50,50,50" />

add 'bg' and 'bg2' to starrating. (I'm not sure this trick will always work)
With extremer colors it doesn't seem to work well, then they 'strenghten' each other. For perfection transparency is probably required, but I don't know how that would work.

You have used a nice combination of colours! It's seems like this forum :)

And very nice seeing my dummy skin helped to the MB project! :)

  <element id="Controls.SearchBoxSplitter" bg="160,160,160" />

Great looking Skin!

My screen Now looks like a hybrid of Winamp and iTunes ...  something like: WinBee Tunes ???

Only remark I have is the main menu items in the top bar...hard to read...totally white would be more visible..

Great job!

Mike

Do you mean make the background of the drop menu's white?  I'm not quite sure what you mean...  Maybe post a screen?

That's a very good choice for the new default skin.

Hi Simon!

I see in your screenprints thay you don't have a menu bar at the top of your screen...

It is where I see in your screen the yellow Musicbee logo and text....

I'm trying to get a screenprint here to clarify to you, but not so succesfull still...

Mike

Try this:

I didn't go all white as I felt it was a little too harsh...

New version in opening post.  Several minor tweaks and an update to use the new tab in caption bar elements.  I always use MB with the flat player docked at top so most my time has gone into this look.  Thanks to the new updates by Steven I've been able to add a continuous gradient through the player bar and up into the active tab which I think is a definite visual improvement on the current version.  You will need one of the most recent beta's for this to work though.  You can get that here: http://musicbee.niblseed.com/V2/MusicBee_Exe_Patched.zip

Hi SimonBRT! I have downloaded your skin and i have changed the value for bg of the inactive tabs on caption bar, in case you like this is the value i gave it:
  <element id="TabsBar.TabInCaptionBarTop.Default" bg="165,165,165" fg="30,30,30" bdr="40,40,40" />

Very nice and clean! I like the effect of the grey shades with the yellow colour :)

Hi lnminente!  Thanks for the feedback and glad you like the skin.  I have tried your suggestion and agree it looks good with skinned borders.  However, I tend to use MB with Aero borders and I feel your value is a little dark for non-skinned borders.  I agree that inactive tabs could be a bit darker to differentiate them though, so I'll look to do that next time I update the skin....

Thanks Greb!  Means a lot coming from yourself.  If it wasn't for your amazing theatre modes I still wouldn't even know what an xml file was!

Glad you like the skin!  This is a fair point, I have not really spent much time on the regular player bar at all as I don't use it.  Have you tried the flatplayer?  I think it looks nicer and this is what the skin has been optimised for...

(http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/5704/bothbars.jpg)

If you want to keep using the regular player though, let me know and I will look to do some work to improve it when I get chance...

On an unrelated note, if you want your image to appear in the post itself see this post: http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=3998.0

Thanks for it!  :)  But seriously, it's a great skin. Since I tried it, it's the only one I'm using  :)

It's gorgeous, I just found MusicBee yesterday and spent the day going through themes and settings and yours is my favorite. The little touch of yellow here and there is perfect! Thank you.

Hi SimonBRT,

I've started using this very nice skin and I have one comment/suggestion.  When downloading tracks from music blogs, the check mark that appears when the download has successfully finished is white - very close to the background color.  Could that be changed to maybe the same color as the down arrow which shows download in progress?

Thanks

I am happy to look into this, however this is not an area of MB that I ever use.  In order for me to find the element I need to alter can you give me some step by step instructions on how to make this dialogue appear.  Alternatively, any other skin creator reading this could let me know the element i am after!

Just go to a web page with some mp3's (themusicslut.com) and download one from the panel that pops up at the bottom. I don't know how to change the color though. I think maybe it's supposed to use the image element CheckTick, but doesn't seem to work.

I feel like a total noob asking this, and I am, but, how can I make my MusicBee look like the skin here? I already downloaded it and placed it in the skins folder, but when I select it from inside MusicBee I don't see the interfaca that is posted here. I see basically the same "basic" layout. What am I doing wrong?

bluejacketinredplease, I had that problem the other day too but I can't remember how I solved it. Try redownloading the skin, restart MB and then select the skin again.

bluejacketinredplease maybe I'm misunderstanding, but if you mean that the layout doesn't change then that's intended. Only the colors change when you use a different skin. You can go to 'View->Quick Layout' to try out some different interfaces. They can be further customised in the preferences.

Ah ok, I see. That's where I was getting lost then, I was trying to basically recreate the same look, you know lyrics on the side and controls up top along with album art to the left, all using only the skin. I'm going to play around with different looks and see what I can come up with. I've already moved the controls. This could very well be the most customizable player ever  ;D

New version up with re-worked player bar.  See opening post.  The skin now looks much better when not using the flat-player.  Huge credit to Mikebo for the inspiration.  Now-playing pop-up also fixed.  Also removed the alternating row lines (feedback on this would be welcome, I wasn't completely sure about this change).

Finally! I actually like this change. I wasn't a fan of them, but I understood it was a .NET issue. How were you able to circumvent that issue?

Glad you like the change, its definitely growing on me and I think I'll stick with it.  Not sure about a .NET issue?  As far as I am aware its always been up to the skin creator whether to have the alternating rows or not.  Before Steven implemented the option to add fine row dividing lines however I had always felt a single block colour background didn't make for easy reading.

Minor update.  Mainly to include the new 'Player.Wavebar.Inner' element.
