Title: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: Steven on November 05, 2011, 10:52:01 AM
I've started off a plugin that can retrieve lyrics from web-sites that dont have an API. For now its just LyricsTime.com, Dark Lyrics, AZ Lyrics, lrc123.com (has synchronised lyrics), SongMeanings.net, Rap Genius, PLyrics.com (punk),  and UrbanLyrics.com
I dont have any plans to maintain this and hoping someone will pick this up and add other web-sites

http://www.mediafire.com/download/5t877tld29xt2b0/mb_LyricsPlugin.zip

Just unzip into the Plugins folder where MusicBee is installed (or create the folder if it doesnt exist). You can order the priority of the lyrics providers in the Tags(2) preferences screen

Would be awesome if this could fetch lyrics from Dark Lyrics or Metal-Archives.

out of the box, musicbee found lyrics for 7500 of my 12000 songs, installed the plugin in this thread and found lyrics for another of my 1000 songs, so only 3500 more to go  ;D

hopefully there will be a few more lyric sites added in the future so I complete my collection  :)

i've added:
- lrc123.com (has synchronised lyrics)
- SongMeanings.net

if you already have this plugin installed you will need to tick these providers in the Plugins preferences screen

Is this plugin already integrated into the version 1.4.4418 or do you you have to copy it every time into the plugin folder?
It would be nice if it could be integrated, the lyrics sites must not all be enabled by default.
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: Steven on February 20, 2012, 06:53:03 PM
you need to copy the plugin once into the plugins folder (and again if there is an updated version)
the very first time all lyrics sites are enabled by default. But once it has been installed, for any future upgrades, the additional websites need to be manually enabled

So there is no possibility to integrate the plugin in the MusicBee Setup?
That it will automatically be installed with MusicBee?
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: Steven on February 20, 2012, 07:24:37 PM
no - its a plugin and i would prefer someone else to be maintaining it.
The reason its a plugin is because their is no official API for the web-sites being used and hence any of web-sites refered to could stop working, and need an update indpendent of musicbee releases

I honestly have very little technical knowledge of plugins, but would it be possible to integrate a metrolyrics plugin into MB?  Their website (below) says they are compatible with iTunes, Windows Media Player, and WinAmp.

Here's a link: http://www.metrolyrics.com/plugin.html

Thanks

Is it possible to add http://lyrics.wikia.com ?
Every songpage has the same format, so I think it's easy to do.
Sadly enough I don't know how to.

Every song has a website url:
http://lyrics.wikia.com/(Artistname):(Songname)

And the lyrics on that page are between <lyrics>HERE THE LYRICS</lyrics>

Would you mind posting the source code again? I've only made a few small things in VB.NET and probably won't be able to add much to the plugin, but trying to get this to work for my underground metal would be a way to learn more of VB.NET that I'd enjoy doing.

Thanks for posting the source, a lot of it is new but understandable to me so I'll probably end up trying to add a site when I feel like working on something.
One reason why I wanted it was because I thought some of it was broken, but it doesn't seem so now. What I think happened is that after using it on over 20k songs in a row I may have gotten myself banned from AZlyrics and DarkLyrics. AZlyrics.com would give me a "Connection closed by remote server" error while working perfectly fine with a proxy, and since about a week ago it works like normal again. DarkLyrics.com does load, but whenever I try to go to a lyrics pages it returns nothing and just shows a blank page, while again working fine behind a proxy. Unfortunately that one hasn't changed back to normal yet.

Hello,

I'm having some problems with the Plugin.   I am running the newest 2.0 MB version

When I add the NET2 version:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ywet721vf2c348z

The lyrics providers gives me a long list.  When I try AZlyrics, I'm getting the issue with it cutting off the first line of lyrics.

When I try to update with the .NET4 version (you will need this one if you are using version 2.0.4586+ of musicbee):
http://www.mediafire.com/?erz714712qq3rya

MB seems to crash each time I open the program, and continues to do so, unless I remove this plugin.
Sometimes the program will run, and when I check (Tags 2) the list of lyric providers is only the default four.
Plz help

Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: Steven on August 13, 2012, 05:51:41 PM
you need the latest musicbee version from the weekly updates topic
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: erikerik on August 14, 2012, 02:37:43 AM
Alright, I have updated now to 2.0.4607

The program doesn't crash... but when I put either of the lyrics plugins, nothing changes.  It only gives the 4 providers each time.
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: Steven on August 14, 2012, 06:19:27 AM
tick the providers in the Tags(2) preferences.
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: erikerik on August 14, 2012, 07:32:45 AM
The only ones listed there are:
LYRDB
CharLyrics
lyricsDB
lyricswiki

UPDATE:
Opps, I just now found the option to enable the plugin in preferences first, and now the list is there!   sry for the trouble.  Maybe someone else will have ran into the same thing tho, and I'll prevent a blonde moment!

Nice Plugin. Now I get finally the lyrics for almost all my metal stuff. Great!

Just one thing. Is it possible, that <right-click> into the Lyrics-Tab shows the Lyrics-Source? Because right now, when the lyrcis are achived through this plugin, "lyrics source" simple says "MUSICBEE PLUGIN".

Smart suggestion +1 of course.
Perhaps you should add this to the wishlist as I'm not sure it could be implemented before MB 2.0 release.

Hi

First, thanks for the plugin. It's so much faster than the built-in one.
Unfortunately it has few bugs:
1) Lyrics Time - prepends "adding-right:20px;">" to the start of the lyrics. Seems to be a string processing issue.
2) AZ Lyrics - cuts the first 10 or 20 characters regardless of their type (new line, unicode, etc). Seems like string processing issue as well.

I do development for living and if you need help with regular expressions then let me know, I'd be happy to help.

Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: ScreamerBG on October 09, 2012, 01:04:19 PM
I've downloaded it yesterday from the mediafire .NET2 link in very first post.
There is no way to tell which version of the plugin one is downloading as there is no readme.txt file in the archive and the archive name is simply mb_lyricsplugin.zip
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: Steven on October 09, 2012, 07:48:37 PM
its only fixed (and only will be) for the .NET4 version of the plugin. Easiest way is to upgrade to MB V2 from the weekly updates topic then apply the .NET4 version of the plugin
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: ScreamerBG on October 10, 2012, 11:26:02 AM
Hi,

The first post states that there's a version for .NET2 and it's easy to assume that it's working, supported and actively developed version.
Instead it's buggy and the bugs are very well known.
I would suggest removing the .NET2 version at all from the post as it's not longer maintained to avoid further confusion.

As for switching to MB2 - I won't do until the official stable release.
Until then I won't use the lyrics plugin I guess.

Thanks for the info.
Title: Re: Lyrics Plugin
Post by: Fredsky on October 28, 2012, 09:29:42 PM
i would suggest change the plugin itself to a way its easier to edit (like external .txt file for search engines, etc) so that most people could contribute to the cause.

Was having trouble posting this earlier, for some reason:

I have the files for this installed and it shows up in the plugins menu, but when I try to enable it I get a message that it can't be initialized.  It suggests unblocking the .dll file, but that hasn't helped.  I even tried restarting my system.  Any suggestions?

Title: A couple of issues
Post by: DPeichl on December 29, 2012, 07:16:24 AM
I installed the plugin a few days ago, and I've noticed that it sometimes finds the wrong lyrics.

For example: today, I was playing "Can you read my mind" by The Killers and the lyrics that came back were for a song with the same name by Brian McKnight.  Since "Brian McKnight" appears nowhere in the tags or the file name, I assumed that meant the plugin doesn't use the name of the artist (or album) in the search terms, and just returns the first one it finds by the name of the song alone.

Also, it seems to have a problem with non-standard characters, such as the backwards R in Ko?n.  I recently changed it to the backwards R because Music Bee was telling me to "keep my tags clean" when attempting to get the cover art, but now that I've done that, the plugin can't find any lyrics for Ko?n because the web pages are expecting an English "R."

I considered looking at the source code myself, but the link is broken.

Hi,
I am new user in MB.
I used previously MiniLyrics embedder. This plugin downloaded lyrics from a bunch of lyrics sites but we had the option to search manually new lyrics if the current one is not convenient. In this manual search, we can choose LRC Lyrics or TXT Lyrics and test a lot of other lyrics.

For example, I want only LRC lyrics downloaded and not TXT ones. And I would choose wich one is the best compared to my song version (depends on album, live or not etc).

Do your plugin has this possibility?

Thanks

Hi,
I'm just wondering how this plugin works (I mean what it does technically) ?
If possible I would like to have a title filter on this like disregarding anything  on a parenthesis(parenthesis included) which is usually used on "feat." because most site can't find the proper lyrics with these on.
I don't want to rename any of music files but if this is not possible, I guess I'll just stick with it.

Thanks

Thanks for the update  :)

I'd love to see at least one of the 3 providers was added:

1. http://www.tekstowo.pl/ - 671 061 lyrics in the database;
2. http://www.teksciory.pl/ -  641 802 lyrics in the database;
3. http://teksty.org/
These databases are the best ones for Polish music, some of them also provide translations for songs in other languages into Polish.
I can help with translation if needed.

BTW. What do you think of: http://www.plyrics.com/  ???
They claim to be a #1 lyrics source dedicated to punk music, providing you with the accurate lyrics for punk, indie, hardcore and similar bands.
Their partners are:
AZLyrics.com for pop lyrics
DarkLyrics.com for metal lyrics
UrbanLyrics.com for hip-hop lyrics - currently unsupported with the plugin.

Thank you very much for the update  :)

I'm glad there is a Developer to help with the plugin.

Including one of the services mentioned in my post above for Polish lyrics would be more than welcomed.
Both MusicBee and the plugin have failed so far in providing lyrics for many Polish songs. AFAIK there is no alternative software to use in that case. Implementing at least one of the 3 providers:
1. http://www.tekstowo.pl/ - 671 061 lyrics in the database;
2. http://www.teksciory.pl/ -  641 802 lyrics in the database;
3. http://teksty.org/
would make MusicBee more popular with Polish speaking users.

I'm eager to help with an API translation if needed.
Thanks for considering  :)

BTW.
MusicBee has the highest rate in Music Organizers category in the most popular software portal in Poland (and one of top 20 most popular Polish websites):
http://www.dobreprogramy.pl/Katalogowanie-zasobow-multimedialnych,Kategoria,Windows,64.html
To sort by rate rightclick 'Ocena' if you like to see MusicBee at the top  8)

The number of downloads might be disappointing though:
only 8 198 until now, compared to 46 932 downloads for MediaMonkey Standard and even 24 515 for Helim Music Manager says nothing about the real value of the application. It only shows sad true that users usually download and use an application which is updated more frequently.

Being updated regularly (at least once a month) gives free marketing boost as the application is advertised on the main website. Users can review the app more often, share their opinions and download links.

Just a thought in connection with a discussion form yesterday about relatively small user base of Music Bee and some plugins.

Great! thanks for update the plugin!

Can you add http://www.jpopasia.com to the lyrics sources in the next release? Is one of the best for japanese artists (including rock, pop, metal ecc) :D

I'll write my own plugin from scratch with a completely different approach.
I think the idea I have will work pretty well :)

As seen in my last commits, the plugin has implemented a bunch of websites and is able to load in MusicBee. I have a few minor issues left before the first binary release. I will also setup a project in my bug tracker at http://bugs.engine.cubeisland.de to track feature requests and problems.

for v2.2 of MB I am planning make the lyrics queries multi-threaded so you may have 2 or more running at the same time.
From what i have seen of your code i dont think that would be a problem but just something to note for future sites you add

nice to hear, I was about to request that. Yes, I designed the plugin with thread-safety in mind. all objects are either immutable or stateless

@DPeichl: Try going into 'Tags (2)' and checking 'ignore diacritic marks when searching' perhaps? It's worth a shot, at least.
I already had "ignore diacritic marks when searching" checked.  It had no effect on lyrics retrieval, but that's preferable to the other issue anyway.  I'd rather get no lyrics at all than lyrics from the wrong song.

I'll try quick_wango's new version and see if that's any better.    Since it's written in a language I actually understand, I might want to join the development effort when I have time.  ...with Wango's permission, of course.

I hate to join this forum just to complain.  I really do love Music Bee and use it a lot.

Would be great if MB could display the specific lyrics provider name when fetched from one of the sources with this plugin, instead of just displaying "MusicBee Plugin".

Is there any chance of updating the lyric plugin to ignore anything in "( )" or "[ ]" or something? Pretty much any track that has "(feat. *)" in it, the plugin can't find lyrics. The only solution is to temporarily rename the track and remove the "(feat. *)", search for lyrics, then add it back in which is very redundant and not good for mass-updating an entire album.

Maybe the plugin can search with it, but if it doesn't find, it re-does the search getting rid of anything that has "(feat. *)" or "ft. *" or "

Something similar has been mentioned before. I just created this issue to keep track of the feature. Please add feedback to the issue in case I misunderstood you.

Edit: Ops, totally thought this was my thread... Anyways, I doubt this plugin will be updated, so referencing my reimplementation isn't that bad.
