Title: Seperate Albums and Singles in Artwork View
Post by: greenday1987 on August 16, 2011, 05:12:37 PM

It would be cool if I could have my albums in year order but then EP's, singles and random songs listed below again in year order but not mixed in. Does this make sense? Not sure how best to word what I want and not sure how this would be achieved- maybe with a custom tag, although I'm yet to use that feature of MB.

This is something unrelated that I wanted to ask you for a long time.

You do realize that the link you have in your signature does not display the banner as intended  :P
That is because you made a wrong use of the bb code. You have to make it this way:

["img]your link[/img"] (without quotes)

Now that I think about it maybe that was a bad idea pointing that out  ;)

Not really :P
Could you explain again. Also, what is the screenshot supposed to be illustrating?

Tip: if you use limepic (http://www.limepic.com) you can resize the image to about 750px so it fits the forum.
Or if you need a large screenshot to show detail, it lets you embed a thumbnail in the forum that links to the large original.

I don't think its such a good idea to be SO open minded about piracy  ::)

There are "bad" people out there looking at your posts...  ;D

The screen shot is supposed to illustrate an EP mixed in with the albums. I'd like them separated.

There's nothing wrong with being a member at these sites, I like their forums. I'd never download anything I don't own the relevant rights to

I think he means to have all EP's, Mixes etc at the bottom of the main panel. Everything else will be sorted as usual

I just tested custom sorting and custom tags for you, and it works.

I labelled custom tag 3 as 'Type' in preferences -> tags (1)
I have seven ACDC albums. In the tag editor I labelled a bunch of songs as 'singles' and one album as 'EP'.

Then I created a custom sort by right-clicking a column in the main panel -> sort by -> define custom sorting.
I used the following parameters:

Album artist
Type
Year <--- I like to have material listed in chronological order, but you don't need that.

Using this sort, the Albums came first, then the EPs, then the Singles (ie. alphabetical - A, E and then S).
There isn't a way to change that; it can only be alphabetical.

This does mean that you'll have to tag all your Singles and EPs as such, but I don't really see a way to avoid that - there's no
other way MusicBee could know if tracks are albums, EPs or Singles.

Hope that helps.

Just to note, I hate dozens or hundreds of singles being listed on their own.
So I usually collate all my singles, demos, EPs, etc into little collections as if they were an album.

That's how I like it, I'll try this tomorrow. Thanks for the tip :)

*EDIT*
I can't work it out unfortunately but it'll do as it is
