Title: Which playlist format should I use?Moving to a new PC with a different directory
Post by: merulox on February 26, 2022, 06:36:17 AM
So I want to export all of my playlists to use them on a different computer and was wondering which playlist format I should export as...

My music library is going to be in a different directory, so is there a way to use track names instead of the music file locations? If not, how should I go about this?

I know this is something I really could spend some time learning about myself instead of asking on the forum, so thanks a lot!

If you're going to be using Musicbee on the new computer, you don't need to export anything.  All of the playlists are in a directory called "Playlists" in a folder under the folder where your Musicbee library (*.mbl file) is located.

All tracks in a playlist are referenced by file name and there's no way to change that

You should do what you can to make sure music file arrangement is unchanged except for the main folder (i.e. they're in C:\Users\Frank\Music on the old computer and C:\Users\NewComp\Music on the new computer with everything below that the same).  Then you can use the File->Library->Relink Music File Paths tool to change the references in bulk.  In my example, you'd put C:\Users\Frank\ at the left and  C:\Users\NewComp\ at the right of the tool.
