Title: Your Nomination For Best Song Of All Time?
Post by: Mayibongwe on February 03, 2022, 09:49:34 PM
For a long time now, I always thought I would never have an answer for this kind of question...but I do now.
I'm convinced that Michael Jackson's Heal The World is simply the best song of all time.
If you'd like to have a listen, check out the YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWf-eARnf6U&ab_channel=michaeljacksonVEVO). (as I believe it is this song's best form, courtesy of the comments section)

Impossible to answer.  I have heard a "zillion" songs that I really loved for all kinds of (often very different) reasons.  This question is best addressed according to very specific genres, subjects, musical design, etc. and even then it would be tough to answer.  Just yesterday Sigur Rós's "Ekki múkk" moved me to tears, but where would that fit the question.  Good on ya though Mayibongwe that you can name one that one speaks to you on such a profound level.

sveakul, thanks a lot for replying in the manner that you did. Your last statement is the perfect description for what I'm asking here.
Good on ya though Mayibongwe that you can name one that speaks to you on such a profound level.
By best song of all time, I mean any song that one feels it "speaks to them on such a profound level". There's only a handful of those gems in the world.
If the song goes beyond just being good to the ears, then it's definitely worth a shout here! Like sveakul's "Ekki múkk".

I have heard a "zillion" songs that I really loved for all kinds of (often very different) reasons.
I guess what would separate Heal The World from just being an ordinary favourite is the story/message behind the lyrics.
I don't think there's ever going to be a song with as much meaning as this one.
Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On is a personal favourite, but when I compare it to Heal The World...when it comes to being "my best of all time", it doesn't make the cut by a mile.

Hope with the little elaboration above, others can also come to name such a song.
It's perfectly understandable if you still can't identify such a piece. (I've been there myself)

Don't know about a favourite song but I have a favourite album. The Book of Souls, by Iron Maiden. Its special to me on a very emotional level because I got to see them live twice with my father during that album's tour. I've made some very precious memories around it.

Fool's Overture - Supertramp

The song covers everything if you ask me.

The music itself combines everything from acoustic till orchestra. The live performance is one of the best i have ever seen and the lyrics are still great, considering when they wrote it and what's happening in the world right now.

A special mention is Time After Time - Tuck & Patti.

This version Tuck & Patti - Time After Time (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIVjCJ3jNDw) has it all. Great playing from Tuck, great singing from Patti and one of the best interactions with an audience.

Well at least in my opinion  :)
