Title: How to migrate the settings to a different computer?
Post by: wealstarr on September 21, 2021, 12:48:51 PM
Hello,

I'm planning to migrate my settings and library to a new machine under a new username.

My library is located at:
C:\Users\wealstarr\AppData\Local\MusicBee

and profile folder is located at:
C:\Users\wealstarr\AppData\Roaming\MusicBee

If I copy these two folders to a new machine under a new user (C:\Users\newuser) will it work or do I have to edit the hex somewhere for the Musicbee to locate and read all the files correctly ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It's probably too late now, but by using the Portable version of MB all you'd need to do is copy the entire MB directory to the new PC.

But since you don't say which install version you're using:
1- File > Library > Backup Library
2- Edit > Saved Settings > Save/Load Settings Snapshot
3- View > Import/Export > Export/Import Panel Arrangement

Note that for #1 and #2 to work properly on the new PC, the file paths to MB and to your music files must be exactly the same on both PCs.

It's much, much (MUCH!) easier to do if you're using the Portable. Perhaps get the Portable version set up on the old machine and then copy it to the new machine. Then you can delete the installer version and you're all set. If you're using the Store version, all bets are off and you're on your own. I have no idea if you can copy the necessary files from one Store install to another.

Hello phred, thank you for the response. I have normal Musicbee installed from the footer of this forum.

The file paths to the MusicBee installation (C:\Program Files(x86)) and music files will be the same. No issues there.

1- File > Library > Backup Library

I did this, instead of backing my library, it backed up my Roaming folder where all the settings are.

2- Edit > Saved Settings > Save/Load Settings Snapshot

It has created an .ini file with the paths corresponding to the roaming and library on the older machine (C:\users\wealstarr) Do I need to edit the paths to reflect the new changes ?

Thank you for the help, highly appreciated.
