Title: sync to android microSD
Post by: getgadgets on June 10, 2021, 02:42:20 PM
I saw someone suggest that to sync to a micro SD card it would go much faster if I pulled the microSD from my android phone and sync via a USB adapter plugged into my PC vs syncing directly to the phone. I'd like to report that this works AWESOME in comparison to going directly to the phone. Super fast and I'm seeing no errors!

Now my question is: when I put the microSD back in the phone and try to sync again after I make changes to my library, will musicbee recognize the previously synced files? Or will it try to resync because the path to the card has changed?

When syncing files MB looks at filename and date modified. So if you made changes to the files after they were synced, the newly modified files would sync again. Are you aware that there's a preview button which can/should be used before starting the actual sync?

In addition, there's a WiFi Sync app on the play store for MB and Android phones which is even faster than a wired sync. Although it's probably not as fast as syncing to the SD card while it's in your PC. I would do the first (major) sync directly to the card in the PC and then updates (new albums, changes, etc) through WiFi.

I will add that the WiFi app is currently having some issues with Android OS 11. Search this section of the forum to read about them.

Thanks phred. Yes. I always preview before syncing. The big sync is happening right now so I won't be able to test just yet. Also thanks for the tip on issues with wifi sync with Android 11 as that is the version I'm on. I will avoid for now.

Happy to report that after plugging the Microsd  card back in that MB does indeed not care about the path changing. It does take a couple of minutes for the preview to complete but there are 109GB on the SD card now and all is well.
