Title: Playlists without disk storage letter
Post by: Carsten on May 15, 2011, 05:23:32 PM
Sometimes i'm using MB portable on an external hdd with the same folder structure that i can use my library everywhere without importing. My problem is that all playlists (eg M3U) saves the disk storage letter at the first location

eg M3U

C:\Users\usr2\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Michael Wendler\Best of Vol.01 (Balladen Edition)\04 180 Grad (Balladen Version).mp3

now i would wish me a format that saves it without the C:\ , strangely it even works with M3U in MB when i delete the C:\ manually.

;)

I have the exact same problem and use Notepad++ to do a "Find and Replace In Files" every time I need to update the playlists... such a pain!

M3U is a pretty dumb format for this. You either end up with:

1) Static lists e.g. C:\music\mysong.mp3
PROS
- Simple
- The playlist file can be anywhere
CONS
- Can't be copied to external device due to drive letter difference
- Doesn't work if on mobile phone or similar
- Can't move music

2) Relative lists e.g. \billy joel\mysong.mp3
PROS
- Can be copied to any other device/external
- Whole music library can be moved
CONS
- Sometimes gets complicated when you get to ..\..\..\billy joel\mysong.mp3
- Playlist must remain in same folder hierarchy as music

In an ideal world, MusicBee would automatically update the M3U file for you whenever you moved it, automatically detecting what it should replace the directory and drive letter paths with.

However in the meantime Notepad++ does the job, even if it's kinda clunky! :-)

Hi,

I hope I understand your problem right.

Edit --> Preferences --> Library

Just tick "map base file path in exported playlists" and convert

from: C:\ to: {leave empty}

does the job for me.

from: C:\ to: {leave empty}

tried it now in many ways

from "C:\" to "" (like you said)
"C:\" to "\"
"C:" ""

but it worked in neither way

the setting applies to exported playlists not the ones that are created in the Playlists folder of the MusicBee library

And we would wish us to extend the feature to the internal library playlists :)

Going crazy this night because this shit undocumented "relative path m3u"-thing....

Pressing "STRG + O" in v. 2.4.5404
Making "x" in "Relative Path" or how its named after bullshittranslating
Clicking "saving" and "yesyes i realy want to do this"
Right klicking on one random playlist and "list" --> "export as extern shit blabla" saving as m3u where i want
Going with TotalCmd to File and F3*ing --->  "M:\Music\Alben\" seing in there.... WHAAAAT THE HOLY SHIT!!!

Sry. but pleeeease when you say it works with only clicking this little cross in seetings and exporting playlist.... then first you telling shit because it does not work or it was patched to a bad one....

or i didnt get it ( lool )
