Title: Auto-Tag by album is ignoring my Auto-Tag fields when ripping CD's
Post by: FuzzyLogic on February 21, 2021, 07:01:19 PM
I have the Auto-Tag Fields set so that Album Artist is selected and Disc# and Disc Count are not selected. When ripping a CD Album Artist is not being populated and Disc# and Disc Count are (assuming that information is available). It's annoying to have to go back after ripping a CD and changes these fields.

Am I missing something?

MusicBee has a CD-ripping feature.
It also has an auto-tag feature.
They are two different features and each one obviously has it's own settings.

What do you believe is the bug that you are reporting here?

Yeah, are you not getting the dialog where you can fill in album details if they're missing, when ripping a CD?

When the CD is being ripped the Album Artist field is displayed in the dialog box when the information is retrieved. But when I check the tags after the rip Artist is populated but not Album Artist (if they are the same). I assumed that when album information is being retrieved that that is essentially what auto-tag is.

Can you post a screenshot of what your ripping screen looks like and then what the tags are after? For one of the affected cases, obviously.

that is correct - when ripping MB only populates album artist if the track artists are not all the same

Is there any setting to force MB to always populate the album artist field when ripping CD's?

I primarily use MB for management of my library on my NAS . I don't always remember to populate that field when ripping and this can cause issues with retrieving/searching music via various players. I was hoping that selecting that field in the Auto-Tag fields would do the trick but unfortunately that doesn't appear to have the desired effect.

I am not really a user of the CD-ripping feature of MusicBee, but this does surprise me a bit.
I am guessing most providers will provide an album artist for all their releases, also for the ones that have more than one artist on them.
If that's not the case here, to me it would make sense if in these cases MB would write something like Various Artists for the album artist.

Others using this feature and having an opinion on this could probably create a wish for it.
Or instead of moving this post from Bugs to Questions, maybe move it to Wishlist?
