Title: When finished ripping cd, it freezes at analyze volume.
Post by: kyote_l on January 31, 2021, 03:16:17 AM
I gotta start this off with this is the best program for large music files! I currently have 5598 albums ripped to Musicbee and adding weekly.  Lately, when it analyzes a ripped cd, it freezes. I have to eject the cd and add it manually through  Add Files To Library. I'm running version 3.4.7628. I thought it might be a memory issue but running 12g on a win10 64 home i5-3570 3.4 GHz. I checked computer usage during this issue and running at around 12% memory and 5% cpu usage  so plenty of machine to run the program. The thing is, it analyzes with no issue for several cd's and then this problem crops up. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Anyone have a clue?

Have you checked the Error Log?
Help > Support > View Error Log
Copy and paste from the time it freezes

Hello! I have a similar issue as the OP. Almost every time I run the volume analysis function, MusicBee freezes at the end of the analysis (or, if I'm analyzing several albums at once, it can potentially freeze after analyzing any one of the albums).

I had this issue for months, then it seemed to disappear, but now it's back. When it happens, the only thing I can do is try closing MusicBee, then a popup window tells me a task is currently running and asks me if I'm sure about closing. When I do that, it enables the volume analysis to conclude, but then after MusicBee closes whether I select "Yes" or "No".

I checked the error log but there's nothing corresponding to the times I have the issue, maybe because I manage to close MusicBee "normally", if that makes sense? The last time it happened, I checked the Windows task manager, memory usage was at 92% with the Windows explorer largely to blame for it...

For a time, I tried checking the option to minimise to status bar when the volume analysis starts, and it seemed to alleviate the issue, but now the freezing occurs even with this option checked.

My MusicBee version is 3.4.7724. I run the program on a i5-4200H laptop with 6GB of RAM. My music library is stored on an external HDD.

Thank you for any help you may provide. I've been using MusicBee for two years now and it's been a fantastic experience :)

A couple of months ago I had the exact same experience, also with 3.4.
I believe the CPU also maxed out and I had to force MB to close every time.
It happened several times over a couple of days.
And then it didn't any more.
I have no clue what may have caused or solved it.

Here's my latest observations about my issue.

Today I noticed that the freezing doesn't occur if I run the volume analysis in the Albums view, but as soon as I try doing it in another view (in this instance, the Album Artists view) it happens again. I don't know if that can help pinpoint the problem, or even if it's at all related though.

are you referring to the thumb browser on the left sidebar?
or do you mean the "Album and Tracks" view in the main panel vs. "Album Covers" view?

Hello,

I was referring to the thumb browser in the left panel. In the central main panel, I'm always in the "Album and Tracks" view. Sorry about that mistake.

So, to clarify, I was running the volume analysis on one album at the time. I was only selecting the tracks of the album even when displaying all the albums of an artist (with the thumb browser on "Album Artist"). When the thumbnail browser was on "Album Artist", MusicBree freezed during the volume analysis, but it seemed to be fine when it was on "Album". As a matter of fact, all thumbnails tend to disappear during a freeze.

However, the issue is not always present. For instance, I just ran a couple analyses today and everything went well in both configurations. It's really weird.

Thank you for your response.

Let me know if you are willing to run a debug version, but only if its easily repeatable for you

Just another anecdote, but this too - sans the CD ripping part - happened to me out of the blue once a couple weeks ago, but hasn't popped up since.
