Title: Future updates requests/suggestions
Post by: seVen on July 06, 2009, 01:44:17 AM
Hi Steven!

Some requests/suggestions for future updates in no particular order. I have readed all the wishlist and don't seems they are already asked but i could be wrong...

- File converter: configurable profiles which can be then selected with a sub-menu in Sent To -> File Converter. Would be useful and faster with no need to always see the converter window.
- File converter: option to convert tracks in one single file with embedded cuesheet in supported formats.

Already done:

- portable version (maybe only need a preferences option to store config e database files in the program folder).
- see/edit all the tags (metadata) contained in a file
- recognize an embedded cuesheet file also when drag & drop it in "Now Playing" window
- retrieve metadata also from others sources than only from freedb, like Discogs and MusicBrainz which i consider them better.
- recognize (and use) replay gain tags also in M4A files (now i see volume not calculated)
- with a double click on album artwork see it in his original size in a float view.
- an abort command when encoding/sending to a device
- a new view (float or maybe above the play controls) with the biography of the artist currently playing with info and pics from Last.fm. (I know that cliking on details/artist name do this but i don't want to see all the Last.fm page).

I will maintain updated this post adding also new things if comes to my (fuse in these hot days  :P) mind.

Thanks for your hard work as always...  ;D

ok
- File converter: option to convert tracks in one single file with embedded cuesheet in supported formats.
its already supported - selecting a single file with embedded cuesheet will automatically split, or did you mean the option to convert the entire file to single file?
- retrieve metadata also from others sources than only from freedb, like Discogs and MusicBrainz which i consider them better.
if you are referring to CD ripping, i've already started this - its almost ready. For auto-tagging its already getting metadata from Discogs, Last.fm and MusicBrainz
- recognize (and use) replay gain tags also in M4A files (now i see volume not calculated)
yes thats an oversight - i will try to do that tonight
- a new view (float or maybe above the play controls) with the biography of the artist currently playing with info and pics from Last.fm. (I know that cliking on details/artist name do this but i don't want to see all the Last.fm page).
would a new tab (or floating window as you suggest) which is automatically updated work for you? so if you have the tab open, the data will automatically update to the playing artist with no action required by you. Its just easier for me to do this as i have the infrastructure in place already
- with a double click on album artwork see it in his original size in a float view.
ok
- if possible, a portable version (maybe only need a preferences option to store config e database files in the program folder).
its not far from that already - MB doesnt have any registry entries so you already can copy the files from the MusicBee program folder and the MusicBee library folder, but as you suggest it would be best if the files were all located in the program folder so would need to be a preference
- an abort command when encoding/sending to a device
just double click on the status bar and it will open the progress window where you can terminate. But to make it clearer and easier, i will add a cancel icon on the status bar, and also a right click menu

here is the fix for reading replay gain tag values from AAC files
http://www.mediafire.com/?0nnmzikyicy

it will load the information in the background, so it might be 30 or so secs before the information starts appearing

In the converter window the possibility to choose if i want to convert the selected album(s) or in splitted tracks (which is now) or in one single file per album with the embedded cue where supported.

Doesn't know that is just getting data also from other sources but yes i was talking also for CD ripping. Just for curiosity, which criteria do you use? A combination of all the sources or there is anyway a primary source? When sometime something doesn't coincide would be interesting to see from what source i'm getting info.

Would be perfect, thanks!  ;D

Aaaah, just the thing that i have not tried but sure would be better a cancel icon.

i have included a new preference in the Now Playing options where you can enable this - only supported in a separate tab in the main window for now

Thanks as always!

Edit: a new request: see/edit all the tags (metadata) contained in a file.

i've now implemented MusicBrainz metadata retrieval for CD ripping (it has always been supported by the auto-tagger). For the record Discogs and Last.fm are also used for genre and artwork retrieval (along with amazon for artwork)

Thanks Steve!
Another small request... If possible, recognize an embedded cuesheet file also when i drag & drop it in "Now Playing" window.

it should already be recognising and splitting lossless album files with embedded cuesheet - so when you you view the file in the library, a playlist or from computer folders it should show all the tracks in the file (only embedded cuesheets in lossless files are currently recognised)
ie. the cuesheet has already been recognised and you can drag the individual tracks into the Now Playing list.
Or did you mean you are dragging a file from windows explorer into the now playing list and its not recognising the embedded cuesheet in that case?

i did a test and if you were refering to drag/drop from windows explorer i found the same and its fixed for the next release

drag/drop files from windows explorer now checks for an embedded cuesheet and splits the files in the now playing list
also

the ability to show all tags is now included but for now its display-only - you cant edit the 'other' tags yet
