Title: 'collapse all' for the Tag Hierarchy panel
Post by: hiccup on October 13, 2020, 05:20:47 PM
For the tag hierarchy panel: a right click option to 'collapse all' expanded trees under the main node.

I recently added a hotkey "View: Collapse All Nodes" which collapses the nodes in the focused panel. However I forgot to include the tag hierarchy explorer, but its there now for the next v3.4 update

So it's a global action, and it will e.g. also close library filters when you have (prefer) them in view.
(b.t.w. when those are collapsed in this manner, the right-click context menu still indicates they are shown, which is not the case)

I was hoping for an option to collapse the hierarchy tree individually by using the right-click context menu.

Thanks for doing this, Steven, but I too would prefer it to be on the focused panel and not on the entire window. Please reconsider.

for the navigator, it now collapses the section that is focused

Yes, a shortcut combination now works well.
But I see no right-click option.
Is that something you are not willing to do?

No I wasn't to keep clutter in the menus down. I would need to see more solid support for that

I think that that specific menu could be de-cluttered a lot by doing this.
It now has entries that probably no one would use on that node:

In my personal opinion they could all be removed and replaced by 'collapse all'. (and perhaps 'expand all')

But I can understand it if it is something that may have an impact on other locations and is not that easy to do.

I've already used the Play Shuffled feature there. I'm not sure why you think they wouldn't be wanted. But in that particular case, there's not much in the menu anyway.

It's an 'all' node.
The current entries in that context menu are in my opinion suited and useful for underlying selections. Not for an 'all' node.
'Queue Next' for the whole lot? That doesn't make much sense to me.

Anyway, this wish was and is for adding 'collapse all' in that menu.
I would use that a thousand times more often that the current menu options for that node.

Ah, I follow you. Just the top node.

Yep.
The underlying nodes can already rather easily be collapsed by clicking the small triangles.

Another opinion / personal preference - a few Programs I use that deal with nested hierarchies have adopted Shift & Left Click on the Groups/Nodes 'triangle' bit, to expand / collapse the whole hierarchy underneath, which I am a fan of in terms of simplicity / de-clutter all at once... but, it is yet another interaction model...
But, having a way to expand/collapse is neat already! (I have yet to upgrade & try it though... :D)
Just my few centimes.
