Title: Custom Web Link Not Working
Post by: Mikkeltheut on September 29, 2020, 09:53:24 AM
Anyone knows how to search for album artist instead of "artist" - for example in a link like https://www.google.com/search?&q=<Artist> ?

I have most of my music files tagged with ALL the contributing artists (Main artist, guitar player, bass player, drummer, piano player, etc) but when I do a web search I would love to limit it to just the main (album) artist...

Best regards

Thanks stardepp but for some reason it only searches for/inserts/finds the album and not the album artist when I use the code...

Using Arctic Monkeys Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino as an example it comes up with a search called <Album Artist> Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino

??

Working fine here.

Please post a screenshot of the Internet tab settings showing how you have it entered

Thanks, phred!
The setting is as follows (in the background you can see the search result):

Thanks for the screenshot. I don't see anything amiss in the URL. I assume you copied and pasted directly from stardepps's post, yes?

What happens if you paste the URL in your browser and replace <Album Artist> and <Album> with the actual album artist and album. If that works, there's no reason why it shouldn't work as a custom web link within MB.

Hi again,

Them it seems to work (check the screenshot below)...

So the problem must be that the search tag (<-if that's the correct term) <Album Artist> somehow can't "connect"/link to the album artist entered in the music file...

Since it's working for me, and for you when you type it directly into the URL search bar of your browser, the only other thing I can think of is the <Album Artist> tag. If it is empty, MB assumes the <Album Artist> is the same as <Artist>. For the album you're searching is your <Album Artist> tag empty or populated? If it's empty, you may have found a bug, where <Artist> isn't being supplied to the search in lieu of <Album Artist>.

The Album Artist tag is populated so I don't really know...
Oh well, it's not the end of the world (just odd).

And oops: I've just seen that it's quite clearly stated that this sub forum ("Tips and Tricks") is NOT a forum for asking questions  :-[
Sorry 'bout that!

I'll split it off to a new topic in the Questions section. And may wind up moving it to bugs, but I'd like to hear what Steven says about it first.

Try using this
Code
https://www.google.com/search?&q=<Album Artist>+<Album>
I'm just taking a guess by adding the plus sign between the two parameters.
I tried it and got the same results with and without the plus.

Hmm, I've added the + but the search result still comes up as <Album Artist> Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino where I would have expected it to be <Arctic Monkeys> Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino...

Thanks for taking your time trying to help phred!!

Thank you for your input, frankz!
Unfortunately that doesn't work either...
My suspicion is that the problem is not the code as such but more a problem of connecting the tag <Album artist> to the information I've entered in Musicbee?

This is actually a bug in the web browser plugin that you are using.

If you replace mb_WebBrowser.dll in the Plugins folder with the unzipped file in this link it should work
