Got a quick question regarding album art
Short of embedding the album art in the files, or having an image file directly in the folder containing said files, is it possible to remotely link album art that is located in a separate folder to the files

Yes, it is.
Select the album or track and open the Tag Editor > Artwork > drag artwork to artwork field (or right-click to choose or paste) > a dialog will come up. Uncheck 'embed the picture'. Check 'link the picture to this music track' and check 'or link to the original photo file'
