Title: How does one stop the taskbar flashing
Post by: Sethos on April 04, 2020, 08:16:50 AM
Been a Foobar user for years and recently wanted to try something else, heard a lot of good things about MusicBee. However, I've already hit my first major annoyance that I hope someone has a solution for. I tend to play music by just folder surfing, so every time I start a song, I get the constant taskbar flashing which is driving me up the wall.

Can I disable that somehow, a way that doesn't affect other applications via registry editing as I've seen suggested, because I do use that function in other software.

Would really appreciate it,

Thanks.

When playing from windows explorer, MB does force the application focus to itself. But it sounds like windows is not switching focus in your case for some reason. There is no setting to change the behavior

What version of MusicBee have you installed exactly?

It does force focus *occasionally* where it doesn't blink either but most of the time it just seems to stay behind various windows, then the flashing start. But it's a shame there is no setting to change any part of the behavior.

What version of MusicBee have you installed exactly?

Thank you,

Seems to be version 3.3.7367 on a fresh installation of Windows as of last night

Is that a full install, or a Store version?

Personally I would advice to use a portable install in a folder outside Windows' controlled/monitored folders.
Preferably on another partition if available.

Secondly, if you want a player mainly to just use as a folder player, I am not sure MusicBee would be the best choice.

But would any of that change the behaviour of the flashing or is that just a personal setup choice? But I think I'll just go back to Foobar.

Thanks for the replies.

It's certainly a personal preference of mine, but as an unsubstantiated guess it might also have an affect on Windows flashing the taskbar or not.
I have been using the portable version for a long time now and never had issues with flashing of the taskbar.
(I surely had issues with that with other software and for other reasons)

But now that you have had MusicBee installed as a full version, registry settings have been added, etc.; switching to a portable install now may not solve this for you.

But again; if you want to use MusicBee as just a folder player it would probably be better to stick to a player that works for you and you are comfortable with.
