Title: extend the context menu "Output to" to include ASIO and non-ASIO
Post by: iFriend on April 03, 2020, 04:41:09 PM
Dear developers(s),

after sorting out some final minor issues, musicbee is now my favorite player!

As a musician though I'd like to have the possibility to switch quickly between devices that are ASIO and non-ASIO. Would there be a possibility to extend the context menu "Output to" to include all devices?

Thank you in advance!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your wish.
It's just that there is one sole developer, and he makes his own decisions to pick up on something or not.
And he won't be able to discuss or explain everything.

All you can do is be patient, perhaps bump the request in a couple of months, and/or hope for some support (+1's) on your wish from other users.

It would appear that no one else has interest in your request. If there was interest, people would either comment, or give the request a +1.

And the only person who will decide whether or not to implement it, is Steven, the sole developer of MB. Typically if a request is by one person and there's no other interest it in, he's not going to put time into it.

Would there be a possibility to extend the context menu "Output to" to include all devices?

Taking a second (better) look at your wish: if you right-click on the player bar, do you mean you don't see all available devices listed?
(I do)

yes, exactly, I only see either ASIO (when such a device is selected) or the rest, but never both.
To be precise: you can select ASIO in the preferences menu -> Player -> output . When you do this, the dropdown below "sound device" shows only ASIO devices. And so does then the context menu when right-clicking the player.

Yes, I see you are right.
The first selection is output mode, and that will exclude all devices that don't support that mode for further selection.

Perhaps something can be done with having presets for output/device combinations.
Or turn around the selection so that you first select a device, and then it's output mode.
(that makes sense to me when I look at my own behaviour/expectations)

It might be a complicated change or feature request though.

thank you very much hiccup! I understand that it might be tons of work, so thank you for even taking the time to read and understand my request. I'm very happy with musicbee the way it is already and my request is very much "nice to have". I am a musician and thus have "special" requirements in general I guess...

Thank you for this very, very fine product!!!
