Title: Creating an album from downloaded zip file mp3s
Post by: The Blay on February 06, 2020, 02:57:38 PM
Hi folks,

I'm not sure if I'm posting in the correct part of the forum so forgive me if this isn't the right place.  :-X

I'm going out of my mind trying to work out how to get a bunch of mp3s I've downloaded from a zip file (which I've extracted) and creating an album with them on musicbee. I even created a playlist on itunes and thought I'd export them to MB as a playlist. That didn't work either... I'd prefer it to just be an album in my musicbee library. Any help would be so hugely appreciated! I'm really frustrated!

Many thanks,

David.

Step 1 - Edit -> Edit Preferences -> Sorting / Grouping...grouping and set how you want to define an album.

Step 2 - If you set "files for each album are organized into their own folder," put all the files in their own folder.  If you select "the following fields define an album," make sure the listed tags match across all of the files.

Thanks very much for your reply. It's helpful but... I'm not entirely sure where to place the folder. When I open the musicbee music folder on my pc it's really unclear where the library is. There are lots of musicbee library .bak  .lyr  .mbl etc none of which I can seem to open. Any advice?

The music files do not need to be anywhere specific. You can put them in your general "Music" folder in windows or in some other location.  You just need to point MB at the folder where they reside and bring them into your library.

The "library" is a collection of files that MB uses to manage and catalog your music files.  The music files are not your "library," and can be anywhere.

Hmmm yes that's what I thought. The folder is actually in my iTunes library folder and I imported all my other music to musicbee this way. However it's not showing up in musicbee. Even when I select "scan folders for new files". Baffling... thanks for your help though.

The easiest way to check whether the files are, in fact, in your library is to use the Computer node in MusicBee's left sidebar to locate them on the drive. Then right click on a file, go to Send To, and see if Music Library is an available option. If it's grayed out, they are in your library, you just can't see them for some reason (maybe they're not sorting where you expect?). If it's not, you can use that to send them to the library. You can also use drag & drop. (Also notice whether Inbox is grayed out instead of Music Library - in that case, they were added to MusicBee, but are in the Inbox rather than the Music Library section. You would still send them to the library the same way.)

Great! That last point was very helpful. They are actually in music bee but as separate tracks even though I've put them together in a folder. I'd actually imported them twice where I've been trying to import them over and over. So I deleted the doubles. Now I just have to work out how to convert them into an album.
