Title: add a brief explanation to 'event mode'
Post by: hiccup on February 06, 2020, 08:39:06 AM
In the player configuration panel, the setting only saying 'event mode' will be a mystery to many users.
Some explanation as suggested in my screenshot would make it a bit easier to understand, and make it easier to perform a googlesearch on it.

I just bought a DAC/Amp for my new headphones with an asynchronous USB port.
Thanks for the information, but what will be the differences with event mode checked or not ?

Found by doing a quick Forum search (always the best place to start), the post here should answer your questions: https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=16030.msg94481#msg94481 (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=16030.msg94481#msg94481)

In addition to that thread, there is a lively discussion of event vs. push modes in another player's forum here: https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=111120.0 (https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php?topic=111120.0)

I notice that it says DACS

I'm neither German nor a native English speaker, but in an effort being a grammar nazi anyway:

Shouldn't it be DACs ?
Or perhaps (my initial impulse) DAC's, as I found some grammar sites saying that's also o.k. in such cases.

The copywriter/proofreader/editor part of me says it should be DACs. The apostrophe DAC'S) makes it possessive.

In normal language, sure. But it seems initialisms are considered by some to be an allowed exception.
Just a random link: http://www.internetlooks.com/acronymplurals.html

I also got the impression that it has changed a bit over time. Using the apostrophe was more common in the past, but these days leaving it out for acronyms/initialisms is becoming the consensus.

Ah, yes, English is a living language ;-)

Anyway's, DACs or DAC's, either will be better than DACS.

Apostrophes are the DSP of punctuation: Even though you can technically use them in a questionable situation, you probably shouldn't.

I will ask my co-editor (She Who Must be Obeyed) for an opinion and report back. Her go-to references are the Chicago Manual of Style and the Associated Press Style Book.

She Who Must be Obeyed checked Chicago which says no apostrophe and a lower-case s. As in CDs. Or DACs.
