Just downloaded the latest version 3.3.7165. MusicBee would auto close at the end of playing a DSF audio file. FLAC songs are fine. Kindly fix as soon as possible, as I am unable to find older version of MB while waiting for the fix.

Hi Steven, sorry about the late reply. No, the problem is still there - MusicBee closes at the end of play. Happens only for DSD file.

- Do you have DSD configured to output as PCM or something else.
- does it happen if its the only song in the "Playing Tracks" ie.there is no song following
- if there is a following track, does it happen if the following song is a DSD file or only when its another format

DSD/DSF files worked well with older versions. With new versions, it closes at the end of each files.
Same settings as before: PCM over DOP, a whole album in the playlist, it closes only for DSD/DSF formats.
It works well however only if I check Controls>Crossfade (that must be unchecked for Hi-Res, however :( )
My version is the updated app from MS store

if you are using the store version, you will need to install the portable desktop version first and then follow the above instruction

I have a DSD album selected, MB crashed after playing 1st track
Error log (only 2 lines for this test):

I noticed some strange behavior - MB appears to be sending the *.dsf file as 88.2kHz PCM (at least that's what my DAC indicates), and the track information in the right main panel seems to support this (look at 2nd line from bottom starting with 'DSD128'):

However, about 3 -4 seconds before the end of the track, the track information shown changes (again, look at 2nd line from bottom):

Foobar plays the same file to the same DAC as DSD128 (as received by the DAC)

I think it should be the case that a DSD album plays ok, but could you also test having a non-DSD file in the now playing list that plays immediately after a dsd file.

you are not using the patch version from the link i posted.
Also it looks like you have configured the DSD output to PCM rather than DOP - that can be because you have configured a setting that alters the stream eg. overriding the sample rate in the player prefs

First of all, I'm not sure what settings I had that caused DSD files to be sent as PCM to my DAC, but that problem is now resolved.
However, I'm still seeing MB crash after playing the first *.dsf file (with another *.dsf file next in the playlist)

in the musicbee asio configuration (in player prefs), if you change the bitstreaming mode to PCM, does it work then?

I just noticed there is a more recent version of bassasio.dll, so its also worth using it to see if that solves the issue

Yes, if I select 'Convert to PCM' on asio player prefs, I can play as many *.dsf files as I want without issues. When I select the 'DOP' option, that's when I can only play 1 dsd file before MB crashes...

Could you run this debug version with DOP enabled, and perform the steps for it to crash. Then send me all the new info in the error log without doing any other actions so the last item in the log will be just before it crashes

Thanks. I can see the wavebar you have displayed might be related to the issue, so could you try with it disabled or removed? You should restart MB with the wavebar removed before you do the test. And send me the log as before.
Also I can see the following file had a different rate which is fine, but make sure you do the same test
To anyone else with issue, if you could try the same - including running the debug version then it will be helpful

It still looks like its opening a wavebar according to that log.
But in any case, I have fixed the wavebar bug. However I am uncertain that is the actual cause of the crash

No, for sure. I never activated the wavebar, however, since some months ago MB began to crash.

according to that log the track played twice - once at 4:10:28 and again at 4:13:32 where the last logged entry is 20 seconds later
So can you confirm it definitely crashed at the start of the 2nd song. Also i noticed the last entry, the mode had switched back to PCM - was that track a non-dsd file?

the song in question is 3:04 long, which explains the 4:10:28 and 4:13:32 timestamps (I think). It definitely crashes at the beginning of the 2nd song.
I think the last entry in the log file was for playing an mp3 file for "regular" listening :-).

so it crashed at 4:13:32, and you restarted MB at 4:13:50, and loaded a MP3 file (I assume your player settings are set to restore the position of the player on restart)

Well, the new debug version (3.3.7251 P) works just fine (with an MP3 at start up). I played through 2 DSD128 files, and MB had started playing a DSD64 file when I stopped playback.

the only thing that was changed was the debug logging and disabling remembering the position on startup for DSD files.
I have removed the logging again. If this version doesnt work I guess it means the logging is causing a delay that somehow solves the issue with bassasio.dll but i wont spend much time trying to solve that

One "niggle" - neither the spectrum visualizer nor the volume visualizer work for DSD files only (they work fine for PCM files). The wavebar works just fine for both DSD and PCM files.
I'm not sure that it's worth your time to look into getting the spectrum/volume visualizer working for DSD files.

I dare to hope that the MB app from Windows Shop will be also updated so MB does not crush anymore when playing dsd/dsf files. It's a VERY annoying bug. Thanks

I recommend you install the portable version to confirm it works - its available from the first forum topic

That suggests the bits are going directly to the DAC without being interrogated by visualizers.
Is there a more recent or a more definitive topic about using MusicBee with 'hi-res' formats with tips and tricks for getting the most from sacd /.dsf /dsd etc with high end DACs?
I found a workaround using Foo ASIO from within MusicBee to my D10, have now got a D50s and can't come up with the right combo of settings to get it to work reliably with the world's greatest music player MusicBee
