Hi Steven, do you think a separate plugin page is needed? At this moment iOS remote is fully compatible with kelsos' MusicBee Remote Plugin, so maybe it's enough mentioning iOS app on that page.

That's up to Kelsos, but he hasnt been very active on the forum of late. I would recommend you set up your own page and reference Kelsos's page

This is so good!

Thanks a lot for this; so far I had to use "Unified Remote" to control this from an iOS device. Having a specialized MusicBee controller is much better!

Looking forward having more functionality exposed in the future  :D

Thank you very much for your work.

I am just downloading the app to my iPad Pro and will test it this evening.

Will it be possible to download tracks to the device via your app? That would be a very useful function because importing files from Windows to iOS currently is a pain.

Thanks for sharing your app with us.

Let me know if I can help in any way (e.g. testing or translating to German language etc.)

A. :-)

Will it be possible to download tracks to the device via your app?

i(pad)OS 13 supports SMB, which opens up some interesting possibilities.

I'd be very curious to know what those possibilities are. Happy to help testing as well. It's 2019 and syncing a FLAC based library to iOS is still a big pain. You either:

a) Transcode everytime a new item is added to your library, then add to iTunes to allow an iOS device to sync.
  OR
b) Use a FLAC native app and deal with a manual sync all the time, which is so painful if you want granular control on what to sync (iTunes app storage handling does not expose enough control)

Gave up a while ago and barely transfer music to my iOS device anymore...

Hi guys,
Thanks for your feedback!

Unfortunately this app is only for Remote Control purpose and will never support files synchronization.

I'm keeping my library in ALAC to make files compatible with iTunes and iOS. ALAC is a native format for iOS and synchronization is smooth via iTunes.
So I suggest you to convert all your FLAC to ALAC.
Also there is a native option in iTunes to convert and sync ALAC to AAC which I'm using. This saves a lot of space on my phone.

Version 1.1.0 is released!

New:
◉ Browse library by Artists, Albums, Genres or Songs
◉ Swipe to enqueue or play selected tracks
◉ List and play existing playlists
 ◉ AutoDJ mode support
 ◉ iOS13 Dark mode support

Fixes:
 ◉ Better Now Playing synchronization
◉ iPad landscape mode is now disabled as designed

The remote is working, but is there a way to have it display the entire Now Playing list, instead of the just the artwork of the currently playing track?

Currently plugin does not provide this information, so I cannot integrate this feature into application.
At some point I will probably add this functionality to plugin, but this is not planned for the nearest future.

Ok.  I just thought it would be handy to be able to select a song from the Now Playing list to play.
Thanks for the quick response.  I do really like the app.

Have you checked plugin configuration guide? https://mbrc.kelsos.net/help/#configuration

Also check the following info:
In order to use the application you need a working WiFi connection, that doesn't have access point isolation.
You have to first install the plugin.
After installing the plugin if you are not prompted to allow MusicBee or the plugin through the Windows Firewall you might have to manually configure Windows Firewall to allow the plugin to receive connections.

You should probably disable Repeat button :)
You can also set Shuffle/Repeat as you want it in player on your PC and those settings will be persisted.

Hey,

I just wanted to say nice to have an iOS app there. If you need any support with the plugin/protocol or help with new features, send me either a pm or an e-mail. In general, the latest plugin master is in good condition and has quite a few improvements compared to the latest release. I didn't have any new release due to the fact that the android app is in a messy state and I am rather busy with another opensource project at the moment to finish the rewrite. I will try to have a look at everything during the weekend.
Title: MB Remote is connected, but shows no albums, artists, etc.

New user here, so be gentle...
I just installed the MB remote plugin on my Windows 10 PC and the MB Remote app on my IOS iPad.  The music library resides on a Synology NAS.  When I configure the Remote app to point to the music library on the NAS I get an indication that the connection is successful.  (The "Connect" button changes to "Disconnect").  However, there is no content shown on the app for albums, artists, etc.  The PC is also running McAfee Personal Firewall.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Hi Gary, does remote controls work for you? Play/Pause etc?
If you have a huge library (like me  :-X) than browsing after app start will have a delay and categories can be shown blank. How many songs in your library?
Try to go back to main screen and return to browsing in a moment. For me this usually is enough.
Title: Re: Remote Control for iOS (MusicBee Remote companion)

I have around 1800 tracks in the library.  When I activate MB remote on the iPad, it has no content for me to play.  No albums or artists are shown at all.  Even if I wait 5 minutes.  So I can't play any of the music.

Update:  I re-booted the PC, and now it works.  I should of thought of this earlier.  Go figure!

When in Songs view the Album names are wrong.   I use this Remote app on an iPhone 8, and Musicbee on Windows 10.  I have about 325,000 tracks, all tagged.

Same song on MB desktop.

Perhaps related to this is incorrect lyrics in shuffle mode.  It tends to show lyrics from the previous album played.

It should not be related. Can you give some step-by-step reproduction for the issue?
Do you see this every time?

By the way the previous issue is already fixed in the new update :)

I installed the app on my phone but it looks nothing like the images in the instructions.  There is no hamburger, star, heart, etc.  All I have is a folder in the upper left corner so I can track forward and back but that's about all of the functionality that I have.  I have included a screenshot below.  Any suggestions?  thanks in advance.

I think you refer to images from Android app. It has different layout, but similar functionality. You can browse library by pressing "folder" icon, rate song by pressing "star" icon and see lyrics and more details by pressing "i" icon.
Try it out ;)

Thanks for the quick reply.  That makes more sense now knowing the screenshots are not the iOS app.  I can see now that I can go my library and then bring up a list of artists, albums, songs, etc.  Then from there I can swipe to play or add to the queue.  The Android version with the screenshots in the documentation seems much more functional and intuitive.  I suppose iOS limits what the app can do, which will take some getting used to.  I am not complaining (it's free!) though I would be willing to pay for an app that was more user friendly  ;) .

Is there a way to select an artist, then select an album?

When I select an artist, I just see a list of songs.

I tried going to album then searching for an artist to narrow it down, but that doesn't work either.

Right now there is no such option, so basically you need to know the name of album (at least partial) to find it in Library.
I'm thinking about adding search enhancements in some future.
Thanks for your feedback!

Hello! Thank you for the remote app. I originally installed version 1.2.1 and I’m receiving pop up when opening which states I need to update to version 1.3.0.

I’m able to download the zipped file but I’m having trouble installing it. I’m using the portable version of MusicBee and I have no idea where the plug-in folder is located in order to extract and overwrite the older version of the remote plugin. Tried searching in windows file explorer and no luck there. Does the previous version need to be uninstalled first and then install the 1.3.0 version using the “add plugin” button at the top right of the plugin tab under preferences? Thanks in advance for any help.

I recently added the music bee remote to my iPhone, big mistake. Now Apple has imbedded iTunes into Music Bee. I never want to buy from Apple. How can I remove iTunes (If i search for a song that isn't in my library Music Bee suggests I buy it from Apple) from Music bee. I'd like to keep the remote control app on my phone but will gladly deleat it to get rid of Apple.
Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forum!

Apple definitely has nothing to do with the MusicBee remote. I believe the Music Explorer feature on MusicBee itself gets some info from the iTunes store and links back to it, which is what you're encountering (used to be other sources but they became unavailable). If you don't like being linked to the iTunes store, don't use the Music Explorer section.

I have moved this to the thread of the plugin so the author can see it and perhaps offer some suggestion. -My- suggestion would be to uninstall the plugin and then uninstall MB. Then reinstall MB. But I think you should wait until you hear from the author.

Thanks @phred for pointing me to this questions.

@psychoadept is correct, neither plugin, nor iOS application relates to the iTunes.
@Crazy8, if you want to search your library, you need to use Search bar while "Music" tab is on the screen. Right now you are searching in the "Music Explorer" tab.

@WerleyBird, @kleinfeld, did you resolve your questions?

PS:
I need to pay 100$/year for this application to stay in the App Store, that is why I had to put some non-disturbing ads in it.

It looks like you are monetizing this far beyond the extend of just asking people to help you with some $100 Apple fee.

quote from the apple store:

In-App Purchases
   Disable Ads $0.99
Access to Lock Screen Controls $0.99
   Detailed Track Information $0.99
   Premium Subscription $1.49
   Premium Subscription $14.99
   Lifetime Premium $34.99

Yes, it was changed when I got a choice either to abandon this app to spend more time on real work and feed my family or to continue its development with more reliable support from app users.
Right now all important app functionality is available for free and more free features will come.
For those who need additional features and who want to support further app development, there is an option to invest into it.
Trust me, it's not a big income at all. It is similar to Donate button for MusicBee player. But in App Store donate buttons and links are forbidden. In-app purchases is the only allowed way and they take 30% to themself.
Title: Re: Remote Control for iOS (MusicBee Remote companion)

Trust me, it's not a big income at all. It is similar to Donate button for MusicBee player.

There is a very big difference between a donate button and a fee structure to get freed from ads or to unlock features.

Obviously that's your prerogative and you can do as you feel is right.

But as you know both Steven and Kelsos, and each and every other member contributing to MusicBee on this forum and website with addons, skins, support and whatnot are doing it completely for free.
No ads, no crippled features, no fee structure.

It seems your contribution is an exception to that and I thought it only fair to have that mentioned.
Title: Re: Remote Control for iOS (MusicBee Remote companion)

To be clear:

I do have respect for your efforts to create and share your MusicBee addon.
I am sure many Apple users (that also use MusicBee) are very grateful for what you have created.
I do understand and respect that you are looking for ways to get some financial compensation for your efforts.

What I personally do have some problem with, is that you are using a free platform (the MusicBee forum and website), free software (MusicBee), and a free role model (Kelsos' remote addon) to monetise your addon without being completely transparent about the ways that you are doing that.

When I look at MusicBee's forum- and addons page for your addon, two things stand out to me:

1. You do not mention that your addon contains advertisements.
2. You are listing features that are not available by default. A user will have to pay you first to unlock them.

Please don't take this as some personal attack.
But I am apprehensive of this becoming some  'new normal' use of MusicBee's resources, forum and website.
Over the last twelve years, we all have gotten used (and yes, have been spoiled) to MusicBee being free and unrestricted in the sense of available features, and it not containing any sort of commercial advertising or ties.
This also goes for all contributions from forum members, ranging from addons, plugins, skins, theatre modes to support.
All are offered for free.
No restrictions, no commercial ties.

Your addon to my knowledge currently is the only exception to that spirit.
The features that are advertised are not available for free, and the addon contains commercial content.

Please feel free to ignore my personal opinion on this. It's just me, and others (maybe even the majority) may have a very different opinion.
But I am concerned about the lack of transparency, and commercial infestation possibly spreading further here.

But I am concerned about the lack of transparency, and commercial infestation possibly spreading further here.

Features that advertised on this platform is free.
But I can understand your concern. I will expand description to make it transparent.
Btw, are you using this iOS app?

Features that advertised on this platform is free.
But I can understand your concern. I will expand description to make it transparent.
I may have misinterpreted some info then. I had the impression that e.g. information on track details was advertised, but not available by default.
It looks like I was wrong about that.
My apologies for that.

My concerns about the commercial (and privacy) aspect remain.
But I am guessing that Apple (and Android) users are probably very accustomed to that.

Thanks for responding this fast, and I do hope that both you and the users of your addon prosper and enjoy it.

It was working fine with the last version of the iOS app.

Do you experience the same problem ?

I am having troubles with the last version of the iOS remote.

Hi, thanks for reporting the error! This looks like a bug and I will need to look into it.
Can you please provide plugin log files from following folder: C:\Users\YOUR_USER\AppData\mb_remote
For portable version AppData is located in MusicBee folder.
Please include all .log files that are present in there.

Also can you try following workaround and let me know if it works for you:
• Locate MusicBee Remote option under the Tools menu in MusicBee player.
• In the plugin window check that status is Running and make note of displayed IP address and port.
• Make sure that Update Firewall checkbox is selected and press Save button to apply firewall rules.
• In MusicBee Remote app on your iPhone go to the Settings page and press Disconnect in case it is connected.
• Select Enter IP option and type address and port displayed in the plugin window on PC.

Thank you for your quick answer.
I don't know how to send you the log file. So here are the lines in this file that seems the most relevant :

2021-03-18 22:04:49.8359 [ERROR]
MusicBeePlugin.AndroidRemote.Networking.SocketServer : 0

Only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port) is normally permitted

MusicBeePlugin.InfoWindow : 0
Tester Connection error
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:3000

Something strange :
I start MusicBee and open the remote plugin windows : Status  = Running
I try to connect from the iPhone : Connecting...
If I open the remote plugin windows again : Status = Stopped
Then I get the error message in MusicBee.

I hope this helps !

I don't know how to send you the log file.

To investigate this I actually need debug logs. Can you please enable them in plugin window, then repeat an error and send log files to my email - [email protected]
Also please send the screenshot of plugin window with the Running status and with the Stopped status.
Thank you!
