Title: Sync Issues - Wired & WiFi
Post by: phred on July 20, 2019, 01:11:05 PM
Using MB 3.3.7138 P and WiFi 1.1 and GMMP 2.2.21.

A couple of days ago I took the already populated 400gb SD card from my FiiO X5 and put it in my Samsung S8. GMMP scanned it and all was well. As a test I changed a couple of playlists and added an album to my library and performed a one-way  sync PC > S8. All went well.

Yesterday I noticed in GMMP that a couple of albums on the S8 had duplicated tracks. I did a 'long press' on one of the tracks and then deleted it. Both tracks disappeared. I continued with the other four duplicates and had the same behavior. That let me to think the dupes were a GMMP database error.

Once the dupes were gone, I attempted a WiFi sync preview and after 20 minutes with nothing but the spinner, I force stopped and rebooted the phone. I then tried a wired sync preview and again, 20 minutes of nothing showing in MB. My expectation was that the four or five tracks I deleted would be found and re-synced.

Here's an error log entry from MB after the aborted wired sync.
Code

The "resource in use" I'm assuming is the WiFi aap. If so, I don't understand how that can be since I did a force stop and reboot.

Here's a few lines from the WiFi app's error log. There are about a hundred similar lines.
Code

Before I reformat the card and start all over with a wired sync, I wonder if you can tell what's going on here?

Thanks.

I've also noticed this since starting to do the wifi sync. Weirdly, the duplicate tracks always have a dash instead of time or anything. And same result, if I remove one they all disappear. Maybe we should take that one up with GMMP.

Well that's somewhat encouraging. For the record, I never noticed this when syncing to the FiiO.

I just happened to register on the GMMP forum yesterday so that I could post a wishlist request for something that already exists. <sigh>

I can post something over there shortly about the dupes. Perhaps you'll have more details that I have.

just in regards to the playlist error only for wifi sync, i dont see any reason for it to fail but there is another way to do it so could you try this version:
v1.1.1
https://play.google.com/apps/internaltest/4700978781087552506

if it doesnt fix it, there is one more thing i can do

Closing in on ten minutes with the progress wheel still spinning. I haven't cancelled it yet, but could the long amount of time have anything to do with 30k+tracks and/or 80+ playlists? And that MB needs to 'rebuild' its sync index?

I'll keep it going for another ten minutes before I cancel.

After a total of thirty minutes, I had to force stop the wifi syn. It did nothing but spin 'round and 'round. Nothing new in either error log.

@Steven- I rec'd the following from the GMMP developer in response to the duplicates issue I mentioned in this thread and that psychoadept confirmed...
Quote
so on android a single file can be represented via multiple file names. GMMP's database will use whatever folders are set in the scanner, but they can be represented under another filename. That is the only way to get duplicates in GMMP
example:
/sdcard/Music and /storage/emulated/0/Music represent the same folder. GMMP's backup file will contain the exact path that is used in gmmp's database, so the MB dev could use that as reference for what paths to use
android.stackexchange.com/questions/205430/what-is-storage-emulated-0
The storage path I'm using on the Samsung is SM-G950U\Card\ and the music path is Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Disc-Track#> - <Title>

If you are using wired sync, MB doesnt have any control over the actual path that is used. In my testing for wireless sync, i believe the wifi sync app is using the same naming convention as for wired sync - at least on my devices. Certainly if you only used one method of sync then I dont see how you would get a mixture of paths used for the same file.
Have you only synched files using MB (and not windows explorer or some other app?)
Title: Re: Sync Issues - Wired & WiFi
Post by: phred on July 20, 2019, 10:30:26 PM
There is only one entry under Device Preferences for the S8. So it's using the same path for both wired and WiFi. The only syncing I have ever done has been with MB. And I agree that, at least with my situation, the dupes can't be due to their being two paths.

At this point I'm more concerned with not be able to sync at all, rather than having the few dupes that I discovered yesterday. Be it wired or wifi, when I start the preview it never completes. On a wifi preview it didn't complete after thirty minutes. With a wired preview I gave up after twenty minutes.

In your first post in this thread you said if v1.1.1 didn't work (and it didn't) there was one more thing you could try. So I'm ready for that when you can get to it. If that doesn't work, I'll just have to wipe the card and try a fresh sync on a blank card. And hope that it works.

can you run this version and enable debug mode in the Settings as well

it should log the info i need in the error log

Just to make sure the no sync issue wasn't something on the MB side, I fired up the FiiO which is still running 1.0.1 and it completed the preview in less than thirty seconds.

Then I installed 1.1.2 on the S8, enabled logging and selected preview. After five minutes of looking at the spinner, I backed out of it. Perhaps I should let it run longer as the error log only shows minimal info:
Code
2019-07-21: SM-G950U; 9; 1.1.2
08:03:08: startSync: preview=true,iteration=0

But then I noticed in the main window that while 'sync from computer' is enabled, 'from player' has GoneMad checked. And there's no way to uncheck it. I can toggle between GoneMad and PowerAmp, but can't have both unchecked. I understand that 'from player' shouldn't come into this if 'sync from computer' is enabled, but perhaps this has something to do with it why it's not completing the preview.

Just to make sure the no sync issue wasn't something on the MB side, I fired up the FiiO which is still running 1.0.1 and it completed the preview in less than thirty seconds.
I spoke too soon about this. The preview on the FiiO completes, but when doing the actual sync there are errors. Unfortunately the FiiO isn't letting me paste the clipboard to a text file. Here are two screen shots showing the errors.
(http://i.imgur.com/aHeMx6Ul.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/aHeMx6U.png)  (http://i.imgur.com/d379m6Ul.jpg) (https://i.imgur.com/d379m6U.png)
From MB's error log I see the first six lines with i/o errors, and then at the bottom all the playlists also have i/o errors. But seemingly everything in between transfers okay. This is from the FiiO. The Samsung still only shows the spinning progress indicator after fifteen-plus minutes, so I canceled it.

sorry phred but i dont think i can help with this one. It is a little confusing what you are doing because one moment you mention the Samsung and then you talk about the FiiO - isnt that the device that you have had problems with before?
With the FiiO it looks like its a permissioning issue, so you could try resetting the sync app's storage permissions
Title: Re: Sync Issues - Wired & WiFi
Post by: phred on July 21, 2019, 04:10:05 PM
I understand. Trust me, it's a bit confusing for me right now also.

Yes, the FiiO was giving me problems early on with WiFi syncs, but at some point it was working well. When the current issue started, it was with the Samsung not being able to sync either wifi or wired. Then the FiiO started showing the same non-sync issues as the Samsung.

Over the past half hour while the FiiO syncs with errors on wifi, it completed a wired sync perfectly.

And the Samsung won't sync wifi or wired. Nothing in either error log.

You may be on to something about permissions on the FiiO. In the wifi sync settings I have the removable card selected and under it shows 'grant access.' I tap it and I'm taken to the root of the card and I tap select. Yet when I go back to settings, 'grant access' still show. On the Samsung, when I  first inserted the card and granted access, the option to 'grant access' no longer appears. So I assume access has been granted to the Samsung, but is not staying persistent on the FiiO. Is access only required for the wifi sync? Because the wired sync now works. Checking WiFi Sync in the FiiO's Settings > Apps, shows that it has permission to modify, delete, and read the contents of the SD card, along with full network access.

I understand that you can't put more time into this, and I accept that. At this point I'd really like to get the Samsung back to where it is able to sync. My preference is wifi, but I'd be happy to have it do a wired sync.

So as always, I thank you for your time, and leave it in your hands if you want to take a shot at getting the Samsung going again. And I'll promise not to mention the FiiO again.

if the Samsung doesnt work with wired sync, and it has worked before, it seems like its got itself into some sort of invalid state. Did you try rebooting the device?
Title: Re: Sync Issues - Wired & WiFi
Post by: phred on July 21, 2019, 05:11:16 PM
Yes I did reboot. Both the Samsung and the PC. Many times.

I'm now going to shut down the Samsung, pull the card, restart it and then try a sample wired sync to internal memory. If that works, then another sample via wifi. If those work, then put the card back in and keep my fingers crossed.

Looking back at the thread, I can almost bet that the difficulty you're having with the card in the samsung is that MB previously recognizes it from having been in the FiiO and is getting caught up somehow in confusion between the two.

Looking at AppData/Roaming/MusicBee/ there are all kinds of usb*.mbl and usb*.dat files there that correspond to various devices and in the settings file are referenced to specific devices.

Steven, is there any combination of these files he can delete or a settings file value he can modify that would allow MB to recognize the files that are already on the card but erase anything FiiO specific to let MB know that the card is now in the Samsung?

Just throwing things against the wall here.
Title: Re: Sync Issues - Wired & WiFi
Post by: Steven on July 21, 2019, 06:08:20 PM
Those files are just database file caches for each of the devices that have been synched. I cant say with certainty without actually recreating the situation but i dont think it should matter from MB's perspective if a card is moved to a different device
Title: Re: Sync Issues - Wired & WiFi
Post by: phred on July 21, 2019, 06:18:30 PM
Thanks frankz and Steven.

I have now completed two test wired syncs to the Samsung's internal memory. I still can't WiFi its to internal memory. I pulled the card and inserted it to my PC's card reader and it shows up with all the music and playlists. It shows up in MB's devices, but it won't do a wired sync. Actually, it doesn't complete a preview. So I'm thinking it may indeed be something like what frankz says. And yes, this card was indeed in the errr... other player before moving it, with its files and playlists, to the Samsung.

I'm going to format the card and reinsert it in the Samsung and see what happens.

Post by: phred on July 21, 2019, 06:34:58 PM
I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying this, but formatting the card directly on the PC seems to have solved at least one issue. It is now doing a wired sync. This is going to take a while (27k+ tracks and 82 playlists) but when it's done I will change one playlist and do a wifi sync and will report back.
Title: Re: Sync Issues - Wired & WiFi

After 2.5 hours the wired sync completed with errors. There are over two million lines in the error log so this is a severely edited version. There are 10,450 occurrences of the error shown below. If the device is indeed unreachable, then it is occurring intermittently since about 21k+ files did transfer, while no playlists did.
Code
7/21/2019 3:17:32 PM - The device is unreachable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070141)
7/21/2019 3:17:32 PM - Copy Z:\Sugarpie And The Candymen\Let It Swing\13 - Drive My Car.mp3 to SM-G950U\Card\Music\Sugarpie And The Candymen\Let It Swing\13 - Drive My Car.mp3
7/21/2019 3:17:32 PM - The device is unreachable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070141)
7/21/2019 3:17:32 PM - Copy Z:\Sugarpie And The Candymen\Let It Swing\2 - I Want To Hold Your Hand.mp3 to SM-G950U\Card\Music\Sugarpie And The Candymen\Let It Swing\2 - I Want to Hold Your Hand.mp3
7/21/2019 3:17:32 PM - The device is unreachable. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070141)
It appears that after that first sync, the only way to sync again is to exit and restart MB, and reboot the Samsung. Sync number two has now started.

Gee ... things were so much simpler when I only kept a couple of playlists on the internal memory of the phone.

Every now and then things come to a successful conclusion. The second wired sync transferred the tracks that didn't transfer on the first sync. However, no matter what I did I couldn't get a wifi sync to work.

UNTIL! I uninstalled the wifi app and reinstalled it and now (or at least for the time being) everything is working as it was a couple of days ago. Wired works. WiFi works. The world works in mysterious ways.

I couldn't begin to try to explain why. I tried uninstalling and then re-installing before the WiFi App would play nice. I think that scenario is explained by IT people as "A computer thing" and worst case scenario would be a "PIBKAC" code  ;D

I agree with both of you. This whole adventure started when I deleted a few files from within GMMP. This was done on both devices. From that point until I un/reinstalled WiFi Sync, I couldn't get a sync to complete. Or in some cases, to even start.

But as Steven said, I'm glad it's working.
