Interesting --- the first few times I ran the debug the log showed one to twenty-five. Now that I've actually captured a delay in closing, it's only showing one to fifteen:

CHKDSK has come back with no issues on the drive where MB lives. I then opened MB and didn't use it for five minutes and then closed it and got this:
5/22/2019 3:45:47 PM - 1

From 15 to 16 took 27 seconds, but unlike last night, this time it reached number 25.
Then I removed the path to my exported playlists which normally reside on another computer. MB replaced the path with 'exported playlisits' under my library path. MB closed very quickly and reported this:
5/22/2019 4:08:57 PM - 1
5/22/2019 4:08:57 PM - 2

Five seconds between 15 and 16 but MB closed in about 1 second. I'm guessing the writing is taking place during and after MB closes.
Lastly I restored the path for exported playlists to what it was earlier today. MB again closed quickly and reported this:
5/22/2019 4:12:49 PM - 1
5/22/2019 4:12:49 PM - 2
5/22/2019 4:12:49 PM - 3

5/22/2019 4:12:54 PM - 24
5/22/2019 4:12:54 PM - 25
Again, five seconds between 15 and 16 and I'm guess for the same reason as stated above. The actual time for MB to be gone from the monitor was 1-2 seconds.
So right now I'm happy with the speed in which it closes and will wait a couple of days before considering this resolved. One other piece of info is that I have currently 89 playlists, of which 76 are auto-playlists.
After 15, nearly 2 min:

I was rescanning my library (and had forgotten somehow I was rescanning it). In the mean time I changed the name of a few folders (that have a lot of subfolders). Changed the 'Album Artist'/Album/Genre/Year (and/or...) tag in a few hundreds of tracks. And wanted to convert a few m4a/flac albums to mp3. I wanted to stop the scanning, but MB said it couldn't and recommended a restart. This error log is from that restart and with the debug version.
In general, I have less problems than before with closing ( a few seconds to half a minute - I know that shouldn't be the case, but that is a relief after weeks with minutes of longer).
Two days ago, a second time that it just kept hanging - more than half an hour (!). Really hard to follow the advice not to close MB with the task manager then... Unfortunately, I wasn't running the debug version (but I assume this has nothing to do with MB, but with...?).
I have many more error logs - basically they come down to the same thing, and most are totally normal.
A few were related to podcasts (after 12 (download failed) or after 15 (refresh subscription failed). But that doesn't happen anymore (no more freshly added podcasts and unwanted downloads).
Still wishing I could find out what to do or not when it does take so long, never know in advance...
b.
At this point, I stopped using the debug version.
Nothing to report...
First I removed the ini and bak file as Redwing suggested.
The only irregular report I got followed after that:
01/06/2019 14:11:58 - end status check
01/06/2019 14:11:58 - save library settings
01/06/2019 14:11:58 - close playlists
01/06/2019 14:11:58 - close library
01/06/2019 14:11:58 - save db
01/06/2019 14:11:58 - save lyrics
01/06/2019 14:11:58 - export playlists <---
01/06/2019 14:13:53 - save lyrics
01/06/2019 14:13:53 - close library done
01/06/2019 14:13:53 - close podcast
01/06/2019 14:13:53 - close folder monitor
01/06/2019 14:13:53 - done
I don't know what 'export playlists' actually does. Does it export all playlists that have that option checked? Or only the playlists (with that option checked) that have changed?
In any case: I removed the option in many playlists and the problem didn't occur anymore (not knowing whether that's related or not).
After a few more openings/closings, I put the original files back.
And nothing was ever irregular.
Guess that's good news.
And at the same time a bit embarrassing: sorry for asking attention...
I really don't know what all those former problems were about then...
Yet thanks again for the feedback and suggestions.
